<p>Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister&nbspSiddaramaiah on Thursday said fuel price hike would not be a burden on the people.</p>

<p>Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy proposed a hike in fuel price while presenting the state budget.&nbsp&nbsp</p>

<p>He said, "For mobilization of resources a small increase has been made in sales tax of diesel and petrol in the Budget. It will not be a burden."The Chief Minister has proposed to increase the rate of tax on petrol from the present 30 per cent&nbspto 32 per cent&nbspand diesel from 19 per cent&nbspto 21 per cent.</p>

<p>He said, "I propose to increase the rate of tax on petrol from the present 30 per cent to 32 per cent&nbspand diesel from 19 per cent&nbspto 21 per cent, so petrol price will be increased by Rs.1.14/litre and diesel by Rs 1.12/ litre.''</p>

<p>This comes after fuel prices were hiked in Delhi for the first time in more than a month.</p>

<p>The Bangalore police on Thursday&nbspinformed a Delhi court that it has identified 159 properties belonging to liquor baron Vijay Mallya, but has not been able to attach any of them for the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) money laundering case relating to FERA violations.</p>

<p>The Bangalore police, through the ED, told Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat that it was unable to attach Mallya's properties as some of them had already been attached by the ED of Mumbai Zone and remaining assets were part of the liquidation proceedings.</p>

<p>Mallya has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court on January 4 for evading its summons in the case.</p>

<p>ED's special public prosecutor N K Matta told the court that the agency needed more time to identify other properties of Mallya which can be attached.</p>

<p>The court allowed agency's plea and directed the Bangalore police to file a fresh report by October 11.</p>

<p>"Bangalore police had approached the legal advisor of United Breweries for execution of the attachment order, passed by the court in May, and they stated that ED Mumbai has attached some of these properties and the other properties are already under the official liquidator appointed by the Karanataka High Court," Matta said.</p>

<p>The court had on May 8 directed the attachment of Mallya's properties in the case through the Bangalore Police Commissioner and sought a report on it. It had declared Mallya a proclaimed offender for evading summons in a FERA violation case after noting that he had failed to appear despite repeated summonses.</p>

<p>It had on April 12 last year issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the liquor baron. Unlike a non-bailable warrant, an 'open-ended NBW' does not carry a time limit for execution.</p>

<p>The anti-money laundering agency had issued summons to the businessman in connection with the alleged payment of USD 200,000 to a British firm for displaying Kingfisher logo during the Formula One World Championships in London and some European countries in 1996, 1997 and 1998.</p>

<p>It had claimed that the money was allegedly paid without prior approval of the RBI in violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) norms.</p>

<p>According to the ED, Mallya was summoned on four occasions for questioning in connection with the contract signed in December 1995 with London-based firm Benetton Formula Ltd for promotion of the Kingfisher brand abroad.</p>

<p>When Mallya failed to appear before the ED in response to the summons, a complaint was filed on March 8, 2000 before a court here and later charges were framed against him under the FERA Act.</p>

<p>Mallya, who had fled to the UK in March 2016, is also wanted in India for Kingfisher Airlines' default on loans worth nearly Rs 9,000 crore and some other matters.</p>

Based on author Vikram Chandra's bestseller by the same name, the first episode just gives a glimpse of the mayhem that is to ensue in the coming 7 episodes. Ganesh Gaitonde - a maverick, ruthless gangster calls up cop Sartaj Singh one balmy night in Mumbai. He claims the city will destroy in the next 25 days and even if Singh wants to save the city he won't be able to.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Singh and Gaitonde engage in a long tedious conversation on the said night. Gaitonde, in his semi-drunk state, narrates the story of his childhood, how he made his way into the underworld and how he realised early in life that religion can manipulate people's sentiments. And while Gaitonde in his leisurely manner narrates his story- Singh sets off on a wild-goose chase across Mumbai's deserted streets looking for his anonymous caller. The Mumbai police are alerted and try to track the call. Meanwhile, at the RAW headquarters, Singh and Gaitonde's call gets intercepted.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
With a very edgy narrative and a bit of gore, 'Sacred Games' gets you hooked to its dimly lit scenes as you set off with Singh on a chase across empty, dark Mumbai streets. There is an aura of mystery around, the time's ticking and one can&nbsp;sense the urgency that Singh has.&nbsp;<br />

Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the first episode has a non-linear narrative. So there are lots of flashback scenes where Nawaz's character explains his story but it keeps you engaged throughout.&nbsp;<br />
Considering the series is directed by two prominent filmmakers, the series boasts of a solid cast. Nawazuddin plays an edgy, self-consumed gangster who is assured that he is God. The actor, who has played similar characters in films earlier, becomes the cold-blooded Gaitonde well. In his cool- nonchalant voice, he discusses the mayhem he is about to unleash on the city. Saif Ali Khan's character Sartaj Singh appears to be a contrast to Gaitonde.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While Gaitonde is self -assured even though he belongs to the wrong side of the law, Singh being a cop has too many demons to fight and suffers from anxiety and is a nervous individual. Gaitonde and Singh are the fulcrum of 'Sacred Games' and it's through these two individuals that the story goes forward. The only issue is that in the story, Gaitonde is supposed to be much older than Singh. But despite makeup, Nawazuddin does not look older than Khan. Khan in his Khaki uniform looks stocky and his actual age and definitely not younger than Nawazuddin.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
There is also Radhika Apte who plays a RAW agent. But the first episode does not throw much light on her character. Neeraj Kabi and Amir Bashir are also part of the ensemble cast.<br />
<br />
Very early into the episode, one gets to see Surveen Chawla, bloodied, crawling on the floor trying to escape her killer, Gaitonde. Moments later she is shot dead. Then there is Luke Kenny, armed with two guns, on a killing spree at a local eatery. These two characters come and go and there are no mentions of them later. Guess, one will have to wait to watch more episodes and know more about the two characters. &nbsp;The other character which intrigues you is Singh's assistant Katekar played by Jitendra Joshi. Something tells me these characters will play key roles in the coming episode.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I've just watched the first episode of 'Sacred Games', but the thriller holds promise with a cliffhanger ending in the first episode. The shroud of mystery remains intact till the end and makes one curious about Gaitonde and his connection to Singh.&nbsp;</p>

'Sacred Games': Saif, Nawazuddin's web series is an edgy thriller that's worth your time

<p>Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal saying his "concurrence" would now not be required on any matter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The letter comes a day after a landmark Supreme Court judgement on the separation of powers between the elected Delhi government and the LG. A five judge bench of the court said the Delhi government did not require the concurrence of the LG who only needed to be informed of its decisions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Delhi's AAP government has consistently accused the LG of <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/delhi-plans-home-delivery-of-40-government-services-lg-says-no-27811">stonewalling its decisions</a> and the Centre of using the LG as a proxy in its battle with the AAP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Thursday, Arun Jaitley seemed to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/notes/arun-jaitley/what-the-supreme-court-has-actually-observed-in-the-delhi-government-case/818209608367589/">write on Facebook</a> that the SC judgement did not mean the AAP government could control the appointment and transfer of officials. "... the Supreme Court has held categorically that Delhi cannot compare itself at par with other States and, therefore, any presumption that the administration of the UT cadre of services has been decided in favour of the Delhi Government would be wholly erroneous," Jaitley wrote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hours after the Supreme Court's judgement yesterday, the Delhi government had introduced a new system for the transfer and posting of bureaucrats. The new system made Kejriwal the approving authority.</p>

<p>The Services Department however refused to comply, saying the Supreme Court had not abolished the 2016 notification which had made the Union Ministry of Home Affairs the transfers and postings authority.&nbsp;</p>

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal saying his "concurrence" would now not be required on any matter. The letter comes a day after a landmark Supreme Court judgement on the separation of powers between the elected Delhi government and the LG. A five judge bench of the court said the Delhi government did not require the concurrence of the LG who only needed to be informed of its decisions. On Thursday, Arun Jaitley seemed to write on Facebook that the SC judgement did not mean the AAP government could control the appointment and transfer of officials. "... the Supreme Court has held categorically that Delhi cannot compare itself at par with other States and, therefore, any presumption that the administration of the UT cadre of services has been decided in favour of the Delhi Government would be wholly erroneous," Jaitley wrote. Hours after the Supreme Court's judgement yesterday, the Delhi government had introduced a new system for the transfer and posting of bureaucrats. The new system made Kejriwal the approving authority. The Services Department however refused to comply, saying the Supreme Court had not abolished the 2016 notification which had made the Union Ministry of Home Affairs the transfers and postings authority. <p>News reports identified the man as Girish Maheshwari. Chaturvedi's daughter is 10 years old.&nbsp;</p>

<p>News reports quoted Chaturvedi as saying her Twitter handle had been bombarded with a steady stream of abuse after a fake quote about the recent rape of a seven-year-old in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur was attributed to her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Maheshwari was arrested after Home Minister Rajnath Singh stepped in. He asked Mumbai Police to register a case, identify the person(s) — posts to her handle seem to indicate more than one person had made rape threats — making the threats, and take legal action.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbspA man was allegedly assaulted by a mob near Aji Dam area in Rajkot after he allegedly tried to abduct a three-year-old girl, police said on Thursday.</p>

<p>Chiliya Manu Rathwa (30) was seen trying to abduct the minor girl yesterday by a temple priest who raised an alarm and alerted people in the vicinity, said Rajkot city zone two DCP Balram Meena.</p>

<p>"Rathwa tried to flee but the mob managed to get hold of him and thrashed him, leaving him severely injured. He was then handed over to the police," Meena said.</p>

<p>The girl's mother filed a complaint after which the man was arrested and charged with trying to abduct a minor girl, said Thorala police station Inspector S N Gaddu.</p>

<p>Gaddu said that Rathwa, who was admitted to Rajkot Civil Hospital for treatment, has maintained that he is innocent.</p>

<p>He said that further investigations into the case were underway.</p>

<p>Several parts of the country have seen incidents of mobs attacking, and in some instances lynching, people suspected of being child-lifters.</p>

<p>Police have claimed that these incidents have been fuelled by rumours circulating on social media groups.</p>

<p>A 40-year-old woman was killed after she, along with three other women, were beaten up by a mob last week in Ahmedabad.</p>

<p>On July 1, a mob attacked and killed five people in a tribal hamlet in neighbouring Maharashtra's Dhule district on suspicion that they were child-lifters.</p>

Gujarat: Mob assaults man for trying to abduct minor in Rajkot

<p>Cricketer-turned-politician <a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/imran-khan-slams-nawaz-sharif-says-he-speaks-pm-narendra-modis-language-136534">Imran Khan</a> has said that ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif tried to improve the Indo-Pak relations but the "aggressive anti-Pakistan posture" of the Indian government resulted in the current stalemate between the two neighbours.&nbsp</p>

<p>The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief, whose party appears to be gaining ground ahead of the July 25 elections, also said that the key to the Prime Minister House lies in understanding the country's complex political realities.&nbsp</p>

<p>"Sharif tried his best (to mend relations with India)," Khan told the Dawn newspaper in an interview.&nbsp</p>

<p>"Sharif tried everything, even personal (gestures) like calling him (Narendra Modi) over to his house. No one got in his way. But I think it is the policy of the Narendra Modi government to try and isolate Pakistan. They have a very aggressive anti-Pakistan posture...What can one do in the face of this attitude?" the 65-year-old leader added.&nbsp</p>

<p>Prime Minister Modi visited Pakistan in December 2015 but the terror attacks by Pakistan-based militants in Pathankot in January 2016 and then in Uri in September strained the ties between the two countries.&nbsp</p>

<p>Commenting on the military's influence in Pakistan's foreign policy, Khan said, "The army will get involved where there are security situations. If you look at the US policy in Afghanistan, a lot of the US-Afghan policy was influenced by Pentagon. Even when (President) Barack Obama did not want to continue the war in Afghanistan, he did it because he was convinced by Pentagon."&nbsp</p>

<p>Pakistan's powerful military has always played a crucial role in the country's politics. The army has ruled Pakistan for more than 33 years of the country's 70-year history.&nbsp</p>

<p>"We have had military influence on politics in Pakistan because we have had the worst political governments. I am not saying it is justified but where there is a vacuum, something will fill it," he said.&nbsp</p>

<p>Khan said that under crooked and corrupt governments, people welcome the military with open arms, and cited the example of a bloodless coup by the then army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf in 1999 when people celebrated the ouster of the Sharif government by the military.&nbsp</p>

<p>Talking about the importance of manpower and financial resources for a successful election campaign, Khan said, "This is not Europe, where all you need to do is tell people what you stand for and they will go out and vote for you. In Pakistan, you need money and thousands of trained polling agents who can bring out people on the day of election. If you do not have those workers, you cannot contest the election."&nbsp</p>

<p>The PTI chief said though he is more "more optimistic" than have been in his 22 years in politics, he cannot vouch for each of the near 700 national and provincial-level candidates his party has fielded to contest the upcoming elections, he is playing with what exists in Pakistan's political class.&nbsp</p>

<p>"You contest elections to win. You don't contest elections to be a good boy. I want to win. I am fighting elections in Pakistan, not Europe. I can't import European politicians,"&nbsphe said.&nbsp</p>

Richa Sharma and Sanjay Dutt married in 1987 and soon after she quit her acting profession on Dutt's behest. A few years later Trishala was born and two months after her birth, Richa was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Richa subsequently died in 1996.&nbsp;<br />

<p>The Delhi High Court today suggested penal action against protestors who stall metro rail services or dump garbage on the roads, causing public inconvenience.</p>

<p>"All of them should go to jail," a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar said referring to such protests.</p>

<p>The observation by the bench came as it issued notice to the Centre, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) and the police to seek their stand on a PIL demanding action against those responsible for the alleged stalling of metro train services in the city on May 31.</p>

<p>The metro services were disrupted for a few hours on Delhi Metro's Blue Line, following a scuffle between DMRC and CISF staff over a parking issue at the Dwarka Sector 21 metro station in southwest Delhi.&nbsp</p>

<p>According to the petition, a scuffle occurred around 12.30 pm on May 31 after the DMRC and CISF staff got into an altercation when the tyre of a vehicle, apparently belonging to the latter, was deflated as it was parked in an unauthorised zone outside the premises of the metro station.</p>

<p>The plea claimed that since the vehicle was parked illegally, the station manager "had ordered to deflate the tyre".</p>

<p>The petition by one Puran Chand Arya was clubbed by the court with a another PIL over the May 24 agitation by New Delhi Municipal Council's contractual sanitation workers who had dumped garbage outside prominent government buildings like the</p>

Anupam Kher wraps up Delhi shoot for 'The Accidental Prime Minister'

<p>Speaking of biopic films, Dia said, “I am intrigued by lots of true life stories. I think in our country, there are lots of stories which can be converted into films. She made her mark globally through her art but she passed away at a young age and she was also fond of children.”</p>

<p>Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday waived farmer's loan amounting to Rs 34,000 crore in the state.</p>

<p>While addressing the&nbsp;government's first budget at Vidhana Soudha, he said,"I have decided to waive all defaulted crop loans of farmers up to Dec 31, 2017, in the first stage".</p>

<p>Kumaraswamy said that Rs 6500 crore was reserved in the 2018-19 budget for "waiving the arrears from the defaulting account".</p>

<p>He further said that the government will take action to facilitate the farmers' to avail new loans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that for the farmers who had paid the loan amount within time, the government will either credit the loan amount or Rs 25,000 whichever is less.</p>

<p>He said, "Due to this crop loan waiver scheme, farmers will get the benefit of Rs 34,000 crore. Farmers who repaid the loan within time, as an encouragement to the non-defaulting farmers, I have decided to credit the repaid loan amount or Rs 25000 whichever is less".</p>

<p>He said that he will&nbsp;limit the loan amount to Rs 2 lakhs, as it was "not right" to waiver higher value crop loan.</p>

<p>He also further proposed on increasing the petrol prices from the present 30% to 32% and diesel from 19% to 21%, so petrol price will be increased by Rs.1.14/litre&nbsp;and diesel by Rs 1.12/litre.</p>

<p>He also proposed a hike in the additional excise duty on Indian-made liquor by 4 per cent across the board on all 18 slabs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the US government eager to stop countries from engaging with Iran, Indian government sources have told WION that top officials have been engaging with the US administration over the issue.</p>

<p>The government sources have said New Delhi will act in "national interest". The Commerce Ministry will send a delegation shortly to the US for talks over trade with Iran, sources said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley during her three-day visit to India last week had conveyed to Indian government officials that the US thinks of "Iran as&nbsp;the next North Korea". Haley had told the Indian government that despite sanctions Iran continued to violate UN resoultions.</p>

<p>India and Iran have been cooperating on bringing up the strategically important Chabahar port which is due to open next year. Indian government sources said US "understands" India's concerns on Chabahar. The port allows India a foothold in Afghanistan bypassing Pakistan and a key trade route to West Asia.</p>

<p>Ahead of Pakistan's general election, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former cricketer Imran Khan has accepted corruption in his own party and said that he cannot guarantee the honesty of all members of the party, media reports said.</p>

<p>Speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Imran Khan said, "Many of whom we thought are close&nbsp;to us were involved in corruption".<br />

"20 out of&nbsp;60 which we lay off, many of them were our old associates," the cricketer-turned-politician added.</p>

<p>"When 4 crore was offered many of our own party got ready to trade their ticket for the amount while those who joined us from the outside remained loyal," Khan noted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He further said that he gave "700 tickets to party members now if you ask me all of them are loyal then? We cannot take guarantee of all 700 members."</p>

<p>Imran Khan is contesting in next month's general election from Karachi for&nbsp;the 243-member National Assembly.</p>

<p>He was cleared to contest the elections by the Sindh Elections Appellate Tribunal on Saturday after it had earlier rejected a petition to cancel the former's nomination papers.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, petition to cancel Khan's nomination papers was filed by a candidate from former chief justice Chaudhry Iftikhar's Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party (PJDP), reported Pak media.</p>

<p>It pointed to Khan's alleged failure to disclose the sponsors of his foreign trips and information on who bears the expenditure of his children as well as his failure to mention his alleged daughter in the nomination papers.</p>

<p>The NA-243 seat in Karachi covers the city's Gulshan-i-Iqbal area and parts of Jamshed Quarters.</p>

<p>Khan intends to also file his nomination papers from National Assembly Seat 95 (Mianwali) and National Assembly Seat 53 (Islamabad) and is awaiting clearance for the same from the Punjab and Islamabad election tribunals.</p>

<p>The other seats from which he plans to contest the elections include National Assembly Seat 35 (Bannu) and National Assembly Seat 131 (Lahore).</p>

<p>Shahid Kapoor’s extended family look set on making a mark in Bollywood, as after brother Ishaan Khatter, Shahid’s sister Sanah Kapur is ready to return to the big screen with the upcoming Abhishek Saxena directorial, <em>Saroj Ka Rishta.</em></p>

<p>Abhishek Saxena, while talking about the film said, "As a fat person, I have noticed that body-shaming doesn’t happen only with those who are on the heavier side, but also with thin people. The idea germinated from there. The film essentially revolves around a father-daughter relationship with Kumud Mishra and Sanah at the centre. There is also a love triangle with the two heroes Gaurav Pandey and Randeep Rai."</p>

<p>On casting Sanah for the role, he said, "She is like Saroj in real life too. Her character shares a fabulous relationship with her father who is worried about being separated from her when she gets married and insists that she find a man who can stay with them."</p>

<p>When Sanah was asked about her character, she said, "I am looking forward to mould myself into someone who is from a completely different culture. It’s mysterious and offers great scope for exploration."</p>

<p>In its verdict over the administrative control of the national capital, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the&nbsp;Lieutenant Governor of Delhi (L-G) does not have the authority to act independently and is bound to act on the advice of the ministers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ruling was given by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra during a hearing on the power tussle between the Delhi government and the Centre over the administrative control of Delhi.</p>

<p>CJI Misra also said in the judgement that Delhi does not have "powers of a full state", it is a "class apart".</p>

<p>The ruling was given by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra during a hearing on the power tussle between the Delhi government and the Centre over the administrative control of the national capital. CJI Misra further said in the judgement that Delhi does not have "powers of a full state", it is a "class apart".</p>

<p>In three separate but concurring judgements, the bench, also comprising Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan, said there is no independent authority vested with the L-G to take independent decisions.</p>

<p>It said all decisions of the Council of Ministers, who are elected representatives of the people of Delhi, must be communicated to the L-G but that does not mean his concurrence is required.</p>

<p>"There is no room for absolutism and there is no room for anarchism also," the court ruled.</p>

<p>The Constitution of India mandates a "federal balance between the state and the Centre", the CJI said, adding,"the Centre shall not usurp powers on areas within the dominion of state."</p>
