Pakistan may reject India's request for 'unimpeded consular access' to Kulbhushan Jadhav: Report

After the intelligence agencies provided strong inputs about the possibility of an attack on Amarnath Yatra, the security forces took enhanced measures to foil any such attempt there.

"On the Amarnath Yatra route, while the road till Chandanwari and Baltal were covered by Road Opening Parties, special focus was placed on the foot tracks. The search and anti-sabotage checks on the track itself including checking the ponies were done by the Central Armed Police Force deployed there," sources said on Saturday.

The search operation in areas parallel to the track was carried out by the units of the Indian Army deployed specifically for protection duty under Op Shiva, they said.

While the northern axis of the Yatra route was covered by 3 Sector RR, the Southern Sector was covered by 1 Sector RT (both units are part of the Rashtriya Rifles' Victor Force).

During the search, one M24 rifle and an Anti-Personnel Land mine with markings of POF (Pakistan Ordnance Factory) were recovered along the Northern route about 1.5 km south-west of the Sangam Top.

While on the southern flank, an IED was recovered 1.2 km north-east of Sheshnag.

The M24 rifle is a sniper weapon in service being used by the US Army.

There is a possibility that this weapon might have been brought in from Afghanistan where it might have been looted by the Taliban.Along with this, reports of Ibrahim Azhar, JeM chief Masood Azhar's brother, resurfacing in PoK, came alongside further intercepts that confirmed that a group of 15 trained JeM cadres had reached its camps in Markaz, Sanan Bin Salma, Tarnab Farm, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Inputs have suggested that after completing their 'Askari' training camps in Jamrud area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, all 15 of these terrorists are being prepared for infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Friday, Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen KJS Dhillon while addressing a press conference, had said, "We had achieved major successes. An M24 American sniper rifle with a telescope and a landmine with Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings have been recovered. The route of the Amarnath Yatra was sanitised for three days."

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that all the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir should come together to give a message to the central government that they cannot tamper with the state's special position.

"The workers of all political parties should come together so that a message can be given to the Centre that they cannot tamper with J-K's special position. Recent developments in the state have created fear among the people. It appears that something is about to happen," she told reporters.

Mehbooba said that it was "unfortunate" that the central government has not issued a clear statement over the current situation as the state is rocked by rumours and uncertainty.

Earlier in the day, Mehbooba said that it is a travesty that the Centre has not made efforts to reach out and clarify on the situation in the state.

"Yet again the valley is on edge. It's a travesty that Central government hasn't made efforts to reach out and clarify recent developments," she tweeted.

Yesterday, the state government advised Amarnath yatris and tourists to curtail their stay in the Valley "immediately", shortly after the Indian Army said Pakistani terrorists were planning to disrupt the pilgrimage.

Criticising the move, Mufti said that the advisory created chaos and confusion among the people.

The Union Home Ministry had ordered the deployment of an additional 100 companies of central paramilitary forces in the state.

One company comprises around 100 personnel. Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft were also pressed into service to induct the security troops in Valley.

Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah earlier today asked the Centre to come forward and assure the people of Jammu and Kashmir that there is nothing to worry about.

He also said Governor Satya Pal Malik assured him that so far no preparation has been made for any announcement regarding rumours on Article 35A, 370, delimitation and trifurcation.

Governor of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir has cleared the prevailing security situation in the region. Satya Pal Malik has urged people not to panic. Watch this video to know more.

India: Tourists, pilgrims advised to leave J&K

The Indian government`s decision to curtail the ongoing Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir came after a series of intelligence inputs were received by security agencies warning of multiple terror attacks by Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad.

These plots were in their final stages of planning before crucial intelligence inputs were received by the Indian security establishment that resulted in the quick mobilisation of troops for counter-insurgency operations.

According to latest reports, three JeM operatives were positioned in terror launch pads in the Nezapir sector of PoK, opposite the Indian post of Shahpur sector in Poonch.

This group had the direct operational backing of Pakistani SSG commandos deployed in this area and had planned to conduct a BAT (Border Action Team) operation against Indian troops along forwards posts of Barood, Sher, Shakti and Kaiyaan.

The report also suggested that an IED attack was being planned on convoys of security forces along the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri National highway shortly, with materials to fabricate the IED already smuggled into the Valley.

An earlier tranche of intel briefs also informed authorities that Ibrahim Azhar, JeM Chief Masood Azhar`s brother, had resurfaced in PoK and was tasked to oversee operations of the banned terror organization.

The appearance of a high ranked JeM operative triggered warnings that a major terror attack was imminent which further resulted in the escalation of Indian troops in the valley.

Reports of Ibrahim Azhar resurfacing in PoK came alongside further intercepts that confirmed that a group of 15 trained JeM cadres had reached JeM camps in Markaz, Sanan Bin Salma, Tarnab Farm, Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after completing their `Askari` training camps in the Jamrud area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

The `Askari` training is part of JeM`s fundamental `Literature and Weaponry` course imparted to its cadres. It is believed that all 15 of these terrorists are being prepped for infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Friday evening and early on Saturday, leaders across the political spectrum in Kashmir met with Governor Satyapal Malik to raise concern over mass hysteria in the state over the recent troop induction.

The Governor informed the delegations which included PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference`s Omar Abdullah, that immediate action was required to deal with the security situation in the state.

The Governor informed the delegations that the Amarnath Yatra was a target and going by the lethality of the weapons recovered from neutralized terrorists and constant shelling from Pakistan on the border, counter-insurgency operations had to be escalated.

Governor Malik also requested political leaders to ask their supporters to maintain calm and not believe in exaggerated and unfounded rumours that had begun circulating on social media.

Government on Friday refuted the report of moving additional troops to Jammu and Kashmir after it ordered the deployment of 10,000 central forces personnel in the valley.

"100 companies had been ordered for deployment about a week ago, which are in the process of reaching their destinations. This has apparently led to speculations of induction of additional forces," news agency ANI quoted Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sources.

"Based on assessment of internal security situation, training requirements, the need for paramilitary troops to be rotated for rest and recuperation, induction and de-induction of central forces is a continuous and dynamic process," MHA sources said further.

On Thursday, news agency PTI had reported that additional 280 companies of security forces (28,000 security personnel) were being sent to the valley by the government to strengthen counter-insurgency operations and law and order situation.

Last week, the central government had moved 10,000 central forces personnel to valley following National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visit to Jammu and Kashmir. During his two-day-visit, Doval had held meetings with senior officers and reviewed law and order situation in the valley.

Security agencies had in July confirmed inputs that Pakistan army-backed terrorist groups are planning to carry out a major attack on Indian soil. Inputs have been received by the security and spy agencies that after the successful conduct of Panchayat elections in the state, terrorist groups have been asked to carry out an attack on forces.
