"Today morning, I met RDA representatives of Safdarjung and AIIMS. I have clarified their doubts and misunderstanding related to the NMC Bill. I have explained to doctors that NMC bill is one of the biggest reforms in the medical education sector which would be a blessing for 130 crore population of the country," tweeted Dr Vardhan.

"I have appealed doctors to call off the strike so that patients should not face any difficulty in availing healthcare facilities," he further said.

The doctors' body said, "We were also assured by the minister that representatives of RDA and students unions AIIMS (New Delhi) will be consulted before framing of regulations of the NMC Bill vide section 57."

"In this regard, a GBM of RDA-AIIMS was convened and the executive committee of RDA AIIMS conveyed the decision of withdrawing the strike and resuming of all services by the resident doctors with immediate effect."

"If the bill cannot be amended in the present situation, it was also requested that as per Section 4 (3) (g) Director AIIMS, New Delhi, should be made Ex-Officio member of the NMC at least in its first term," it said.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and United Resident Doctors Association (URDA) were protesting against the NMC Bill, which has been passed by both the Houses of Parliament.

Healthcare services were badly affected due to the strike in the national capital with thousands of patients turning away in despair.

Doctors of Safdarjung Hospital, another major public health provider in the city, will continue their protest.

"We will make our decision tomorrow at the GBM, which will be attended among others by the RDA representatives," Prakash Thakur, RDA-president at Safdarjung Hospital, told ANI.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday hailed the recent law passed by the state legislative assembly which allows women in the state to work in night shifts.

"Women work in night shifts throughout the country in various sectors. Goa is a developing state and as we are looking to develop an IT and electronics industry, then this bill is very important," Sawant told media persons here on Friday.

"We are moving towards a new age and we require this amendment," the chief minister added.

The Factories (Goa Amendment) Act, 2019, was passed on Thursday by the Goa legislative assembly.

The law amended Section 66 of the Factories Act,1948 (Central Act 63 of 1948), as in force in the State of Goa, to empower the Government to specify the conditions for ensuring the safety of women who work in any factory or manufacturing process between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M.

Earlier, Section 66(b) of The Factories Act, 1948 (Central Act 63 of 1948) read, "no women shall be required or allowed to work in any factory except between the hours of 6 A.M. and 7 P.M".

BJP MLA Alena Sardanha, however, had a different view.

The lawmaker was of the opinion that women should not be made to work at night and should stay at home due to security reasons.

"I fear for women's security and I firmly believe that ladies should be in their homes. They are mothers and they have so many responsibilities," Sardanha said.

"The presence of the mother in the house is very essential especially when children have to go to school. She has to be there to help her children get ready for school the next day," Saldanha added.

Upon being asked why she did not raise any objections during the bill's discussion in the assembly the MLA said, "It's not that I did not object, I was busy writing down some points on another issue and that is how I missed it," she said."I am very upset about it. But definitely, I believe that ladies should not be made to work in the night shift," she added.

In a blow to the Congress in Karnataka, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that JD (S) will fight the upcoming elections in the state on its own.

"There will be no coalition. We don't need any coalition now. I don't need power, I need your love," Kumaraswamy said while addressing a meeting of party workers on Saturday.

BJP's BS Yediyurappa formed government in the state following the collapse of the JD(S)-Congress combine after the resignation of their 17 legislators.

As a result, Kumaraswamy's confidence motion was defeated, paving way for Yediyurappa to stake a claim.

Post his defeat, Kumaraswamy had also hinted at quitting politics by stating, "I came to politics accidentally. I became the chief minister accidentally. God gave me the opportunity to become the chief minister twice. I wasn't there to satisfy anyone. In 14 months, I did good work towards the state`s development."

Addressing the party workers at Mandya, Kumaraswamy also hinted that the present Yediyurappa led government might not last long in the state and urged party workers to stay prepared for elections in the state.

"Be prepared for elections very soon, elections may happen on the 17 seats (constituencies of disqualified MLAs) or elections may even happen on all 224 constituencies. I am sure that this (Karnataka government) will not stay for long," he had said.

With the doctors' strike against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill 2019 entering the fourth day on Sunday, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan met agitating doctors and urged them to call off their strike.

"Today morning, I have met RDA representatives of Safdarjung and AIIMS. I have clarified their doubts and misunderstanding related to NMC bill. I have explained to doctors that NMC bill is one of the biggest reform in the medical education sector which is would a blessing for 130 crore population of the country," he tweeted.

"I have appealed doctors to call off the strike so that patients should not get any difficulty in availing healthcare facilities," read another tweet.

Dr Prakash Thakur, President, Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at Safdarjung Hospital, who was in the meeting with the Union Minister, told ANI, "We have been informed by the health minister that there would be no amendment in the NMC bill. We have resumed emergency services at Safdarjung hospital. As we are not satisfied, we still put our concern to the health minister over the ambiguity of the NMC bill. Protest against NMC bill is still on."

Due to the strike, healthcare services have badly been affected and thousands of patients are having a tough time in availing treatment.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and United Resident Doctors Association (URDA) have been protesting against the NMC bill.

Doctors have shown their dissatisfaction over the alleged ambiguity of the NMC bill. Resident doctors from various hospitals like All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Safdarjung, Ram Manohar Lohia, Lady Hardinge, GTB and Lok Nayak are protesting over the provisions of the NMC Bill.

Agitating doctors have deep concerns over alleged privatisation of medical education.

"The NMC bill will give undue favours to the private medical colleges/unaided universities by decreasing the percentage of seats under the controlled fee structure from 85 per cent to 50 per cent," doctors said.

Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had passed the NMC Bill which seeks to create National Medical Commission in place of Medical Council of India (MCI) with Vardhan terming it as an "anti-vested interests Bill" which will be remembered as one of the greatest reforms brought by the Narendra Modi government.

It provides for the repeal of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.

The Bill provides that the common final year MBBS exam be known as NEXT which would serve as a licentiate exam for entrance to post-graduate medical courses and as a screening test for foreign medical graduates.

Doctors have shown their dissatisfaction over the ambiguity of the Bill.

For example, the doctors are uncertain on the concept of NEXT and demolishing NEET-PG. Similarly, they are disagreeing the concept of Community Health Providers (CHP) included in the Bill.

The orbit achieved is 277 x 89472 km. All spacecraft parameters are normal," the space agency had said in a statement.

A Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark III, carrying the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft, had lifted off at 2:43pm on July 22 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Chandrayaan-2 will explore a region of the moon where no mission has ever set foot. The spacecraft consists of an orbiter, a lander, and a rover together referred to as "composite body".

The landing on the moon's south polar region is expected on September 7 this year.

The spacecraft will be the first Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface. This mission will make India the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to carry out a soft landing on the moon.

The United Kingdom on Saturday updated the travel advisory for its citizens visiting Jammu and Kashmir, a day after the Indian government asked tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to immediately curtail their stay after a series of intelligence inputs were received by security agencies over multiple terror attacks.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), in a statement, advised its citizens "against all travel to the immediate vicinity of the border with Pakistan, other than at Wagah, Jammu and Kashmir, except for travel within the city of Jammu, travel by air to the city of Jammu, and travel within the region of Ladakh."

Keeping security threats in view, the Jammu and Kashmir government advised all Amarnath Yatris and tourists to curtail their stay in the Valley "immediately".

The advisory stated that the British High Commission in New Delhi is monitoring the situation.

Water-logging followed by incessant downpour has thrown the life of residents out of gear in Anand district, Khambat situated in Gujarat.

Due to heavy downpour, Anand district recorded 15 mm of rainfall within 10 hours on Saturday.

Several parts of the districts including Jahangirpur, Rabariwad, Sagar Society, Mochiwad and Baba Bajisha were inundated with water followed by massive rains.

Various market areas in the region were also deluged in water and locals had to wade through knee-deep water.

The district collector arrived at the waterlogged areas and directed the locals to vacate the affected areas.

Rains were so relentless that children in few areas had to struggle to wade through shoulder-deep water.

Meanwhile, Gujarat's Vadodara was massively hit by waterlogging and flood in several parts across the city, following a heavy downpour since last few days.

In a sigh of relief, District Magistrate Shalini Agarwal on Friday said that the floodwater which had entered Vadodara city is receding.

"Water level in Vishwamitri River is going down since today morning and the water is also receding from the cities. We have opened bridges for vehicular traffic. Electricity, water supply is being restored while health and cleanliness campaigns are being taken up," Agarwal told ANI.

Several people lost their lives after incessant rains in the region swelled the water level in the river causing it to burst into cities.

"There were four deaths due to wall collapse and two due to rainfall. National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams are deployed for evacuation," Agarwal added.

District Magistrate also mentioned that several crocodiles, which had ventured into the cities due to flood, were rescued.

"Four were rescued today and two were rescued yesterday," she said.

Rescue and evacuation operations were undertaken on a large scale in the cities, in which several incidents of bravery came to light. One sub-inspector Govind Chawla risked his life to rescue a 1.5-year-old girl from the flood in Devipura area here on Thursday.

"The commissioner had ordered to evacuate people from low lying areas. We were in the area to rescue around 50 people who were stuck in floods. There I saw an infant. It was difficult as she could not hold me, so I carried her out of the water on my head using a plastic tub." Chawla said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that there was a need to develop Hypersonic missile technologies in the country for the Indian Armed Forces.

"I am looking forward to new missile technology as you know that missile technology had grown rapidly. Several countries have even prepared air defence missile systems. It is necessary to develop Hypersonic missile technologies in the country for the defence capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces," he said.

The Defence Minister made the remarks during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Bharat Dynamic Limited here.India had tested a Technology Demonstrator Vehicle in June this year.

Doubts were raised on the success of its test though the DRDO had stressed that the "missile was launched successfully."

Several nations in the world are said to be developing Hypersonic weapons. India's Brahmos-II missile which is said to be under development will also be a Hypersonic weapon.

The Defence Minister while speaking at the ceremony also took a swipe at Pakistan for naming its missiles after "attackers."

"When it comes to missile technology, sometimes people want to see the country's aggression in missile technology's development. Our neighbour names their missiles after attackers-Babur, Ghori, Ghaznavi missiles. Such names are kept so that Pakistan can project aggression," he said.

"In India, defence forces are not maintained to attack other nations. Our defence forces work for peace and stability at regional, continental, global levels...Missiles here are named Prithvi, Akash, Agni, Nag, Trishul, BrahMos. They invoke balance, patience and destruction if needed," he added.

The Defence Minister said that the government wants to take India's defence exports to a respectable position in 2025.

"Modernisation of Armed Forces is our priority. We want to fulfill all the requirements of Armed Forces through indigenous means," he said.

"DRDO is working on Akash-1s, Akash-NG, Astra, NPATGM, QRSAM and several other missile systems. All these missiles are being developed indigenously. I can say that it is because of BDL that India has the capability to face all the challenges coming from land, air and water. DRDO has successfully completed the trial of NAG anti-tank missile. Now, these missiles are moving to the production stage," the Defence Minister said.
