President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he asked the United States National Security Adviser <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/north-korea-calls-us-national-security-advisor-john-bolton-human-defect-221893">John Bolton</a> to resign after he "disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions."

“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning,” Trump said on Twitter.

Bolton denied being fired and said he had resigned.

The news — coming days after Trump caused uproar by revealing he was canceling secret talks with Afghanistan's Taliban — stunned Washington.

Bolton is a veteran and controversial figure closely linked to the invasion of Iraq and other aggressive foreign policy decisions. He had been seen as one of the main driving forces in the White House's muscular approach to Iran, Venezuela and other trouble spots.
As often in the Trump presidency, the abrupt reshuffle appeared to contain an element of chaos.

Trump's tweeted announcement came shortly after the White House press office had said Bolton would shortly be giving a press conference on terrorism issues alongside Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Bolton himself disputed Trump's version of events, apparently saying that the president had not fired him in person, as he claimed, late Monday.

"I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, "Let's talk about it tomorrow," Bolton tweeted.

Weeks before accepting the Rafale fighter jets, Indian Air Force Chief BS Dhanoa on Tuesday will resurrect the 17 Squadron, which will be the first unit to operate the French-origin fighters in the force.

"IAF Chief BS Dhanoa will be present on the resurrection of the 17 Squadron nicknamed Golden Arrows, which used to operate the MiG-21s earlier and was number-plated due to the phasing out of the planes operated by it," IAF sources told ANI.

The Golden Arrows, commanded by Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa during the Kargil war in 1999, will soon welcome the first Rafale combat aircraft in India.

The first unit to receive the Rafale combat aircraft would be the 17 Squadron, which was earlier located in Bathinda in Punjab, and will now be shifted to Ambala in Haryana.

The other squadron of the fighter aircraft will be based out of Hashimara in West Bengal to tackle front-facing China. Ahead of this, the 17 squadron operated the MiG-21 and is `number-plated` at the moment.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/arun-jaitley-a-suave-politician-who-shared-excellent-rapport-with-journalist-245408">Arun Jaitley</a> had the kind of personality which could make any person he met his fan, said Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.

"I first met Jaitley personally in the 80s. Even in those days he had the charming personality and manners which could make any person his fan," Rajnath said at a condolence meet organised by BJP.&nbsp;

The 'Shradhanjali' programme was held at the weight-lifting hall in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Jaitley's wife Sangita, daughter Sonali and son Rohan were present on the occasion.

Praising the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/tale-of-two-political-stalwarts-arun-jaitley-and-p-chidambaram-248575">former finance minister</a>'s insight and acumen, Rajnath said, "He always played a big role in setting the narrative of the BJP. There was a time in the 80s when it was considered an orthodox party, but it was Jaitley who changed the narrative of the party amongst the intellectuals."&nbsp;

Terming his demise a loss for the entire nation, Rajnath added that his absence was being felt across party lines.

"This is not just BJP's loss, but the nation's loss as a whole, people across party lines are feeling it. He may not be here today, but I will definitely say that he will continue to shine like a star at the very top," Rajnath said.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan also praised Jaitley's contribution towards the nation and NDA alliance by stating, "He was the one person we could always go to, whenever we were worried about the alliance. No alliance party member would ever be hesitant in front of him and he would always have the solution, such was his expertise."&nbsp;

Paswan also recounted an anecdote which had moved him personally as it involved his son and newly elected MP Chirag Paswan.

"I remember after Chirag's first speech in the Parliament, Jaitleyji sent him a note full of praises and wishing him luck. That set Chirag's mind on politics, once and for all, only Arunji could have had such an influence on people," Paswan said.

Several diplomats and dignitaries were in attendance at the condolence meet including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and leaders from the Opposition parties including Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, CPI (M) leader D Raja among others.

Members of Vichar Manch which includes Sangh Parivar, Marg Darshak Mandal and BJP's Rashtriya Karya Samiti Sadasya were also present at the meet.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday asserted that the dilution of Article 370 would accelerate the process of development in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and said any talks with Pakistan now would be held only on Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

"Abrogation of Article 370 paved the way for the extension of various schemes and legislations, including 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments to strengthen the funds and functions of local bodies," he said.

The Vice President was interacting with a delegation of Sarpanchs (Village Heads) and Panchs (Panchayat Members) from Jammu and Kashmir and told them that Article 370 was only a temporary and transitory provision in the Constitution.

"Talks with Pakistan would be held only on PoK, the safety, security and integrity of the nation are paramount for every Indian," he said, according to an official statement.

Referring to the holding of Panchayat elections under the Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir after a long gap, Naidu expressed his happiness that 74 per cent of the electorate voted and around 3,500 of the 4,483 Panchayats have been elected.

"With the dilution of Article 370, the Panchayats would now become more dynamic as the 3Fs - Funds, Functions, and Functionaries would be devolved to them. The financial power of Panchayats has also been increased by 10 times enhancing their financial powers up to Rs 1 lakh," he said.

He pointed out that the Panchayats were vested with powers to raise their own resources by increasing taxes. "The Panchayats are also now empowered to conduct an audit of schemes like ICDS and PMAY to improve the quality of delivery," he added.

Observing that greater devolution of funds, functions, and functionaries would enable the 3-tier administrative system to function more effectively, he said, Jammu and Kashmir was losing around Rs 4,000 crores for not conducting Panchayat elections as per the norms set by the 14th Finance Commission.

"Now that elections have been conducted, the funds recommended by the Finance Commission will start flowing. I am happy to know that Rs 500 crore have already been released and another Rs 3,000 crore will be released shortly. This will be a big game-changer for the Panchayat system," he said.

The Vice President also suggested that holding elections to local bodies every five years should be made mandatory.

"There should be no discretion or scope for the states to either postpone or advance them," he said.

Stating that effective local governance was key for better implementation of development and welfare initiatives and for better service delivery, he said that the funds allocated to the local bodies should go into the accounts of Panchayats, municipalities, and corporations and spent in accordance with the resolutions of the respective bodies.

India hit out at Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in its right of reply at the United Nations Human Rights Council as it raised the plight of minorities in the neighbouring country.

First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of India to UN Vimarsh Aryan said Pakistani," rhetoric will not distract international attention from Pakistan’s persecution and elimination of religious and ethnic minorities – be it the Christians, Sikhs, Shias, Ahmadiyas and Hindus."

India gave examples of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who was incarcerated for years under blasphemy laws and Abdul Shakoor a the 82-year-old Ahmadiya, who was charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act for selling books. New Delhi also gave the example of minor Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur who was abducted and converted just a few weeks back in Pakistan's Punjab province.

India's diplomat slammed Islamabad for raking Kashmir at the Geneva-based institution.

Indian diplomat Vimarsh Aryan said, "We're not surprised at Pakistan's hysterical statements with false narratives aimed to politicise and polarise this forum. Pakistan realises that our decision cuts away ground from under its feet by creating obstacles in its continuing sponsorship of cross-border terrorism."

New Delhi highlighted how "some Pakistan leaders have even gone as far as to call for ‘Jihad’ and to encourage violence both inside Jammu and Kashmir and in third countries, in order to paint a picture of ‘genocide’ which even they know is far from reality"

Calling Pakistan, "epicentre of global terrorism", Aryan said, Pakistan "forgets that terrorism is the worst form of human rights abuse."

India on Tuesday strongly countered Pakistan's offensive on Jammu and Kashmir in United Nations Human Rights Council meet and asserted that while Islamabad 'cry victim' in reality, the western neighbour is 'perpetrators' of human rights abuses.

Launching a scathing counter-attack at Pakistan at UNHRC in Geneva, Secretary (East) MEA, Vijay Thakur Singh said that Pakistan is an epicentre of terrorism, and propagating a false narrative on Kashmir.

"The world is aware that this false narrative comes from the epicentre of terrorism,"&nbsp;Singh said in a statement on India's behalf at UNHRC.&nbsp;

Hitting out at Pakistan she also said that a delegation has given a running commentary with offensive rhetoric of false allegations and concocted charges against my country. The world is aware that this narrative comes from the epicentre of global terrorism, where terrorism leaders were sheltered for years.

In her statement at the UNHRC, Vijay Thakur Singh further said that no country can accept interference in its internal matter, certainly not India.

Speaking at the UNHRC headquarters in Geneva, MEA secretary east said, "The decision (to revoke Article 370) was taken by our Parliament. These were sovereign decisions which is entirely India’s internal matter. Basic services are being eased gradually (in Kashmir). My government is taking affirmative action by adopting progressive policies to promote socio-economic equality and justice".

"India has suffered due to state-sponsored terrorism. This country (Pak) engages in terrorism as a form of alternate diplomacy", she added.

Highlighting the Indian government's Progressive policies and development works in Kashmir she said that our Government is taking affirmative action by adopting progressive policies to promote socio-economic equality and justice. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an "Indian state" following his speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session here.

Speaking to reporters, Shah said, "India is trying to give an impression to the world that life has returned to normalcy. If the life has returned to normalcy, then I say, why don't they allow you, the international media, why don't they allow the international organisations, the NGOs, civil society organisations to go into the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and see for themselves what the reality is."

Till date, Pakistan, in all its official communication, has been referring to Jammu and Kashmir as "Indian Administered Kashmir"
Qureshi's remarks came after his address at the UNHRC session, where he presented a false narrative on Kashmir maintained by his country following the Indian government's historic move to abrogate Article 370.

Interestingly, while Qureshi was addressing the session, protests were held outside the UN Headquarters against the dire situation of Human Rights in Pakistan.

Time and again Islamabad has been left red-faced after all its desperate attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue fell flat with countries like Russia, UAE and US siding with India.

While Pakistan has been running from pillar to post, New Delhi has maintained that Kashmir is a strictly internal matter.

Geneva: Pakistan Foreign Minister mentions Jammu and Kashmir as 'Indian state'

ABVP’s National Organizing Secretary, Sunil Ambekar is perhaps the only serving Pracharak to have written a book on <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/rss-is-not-an-organisation-of-sanyasis-mohan-bhagwat-166223">Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh</a> (RSS) and its <a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/moderate-hinduism-mohan-bhagwats-vijayadashami-exposition-172756">challenges</a> while being in the job.&nbsp;

The book named ‘The RSS: Roadmaps for the 21st Century’ dwells on the issues of family, development, caste system, Hindutva&nbsp;and environment.

The book marks both commitments to certain values which RSS upholds and strong departures to showcase that it is open to change and absorb new realities of the society.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
The book is an attempt to develop a cultural model which can keep pace with rapid urbanization and development of the society, but it does not get emotional on the virtues of the joint family.&nbsp;

The author of the book makes peace with the idea of a nuclear family with a hope that core Indian family values survive in the long run lest Indian society begins to replicate American experience.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
RSS had made it clear way before the Supreme Court judgement that it is opposed to the criminalisation of same-sex relationship. Today, the next step within the LGBT community is that of same-sex marriages.&nbsp;

When asked this question, Sunil Ambekar said,” We do not believe in institutionalising same-sex marriages, but it does not mean that we have closed doors on this chapter.”&nbsp;

It is a big step for an organization where a change in dress code (from traditional khaki shorts to trousers) led to decades of internal discussion and debates.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
Sunil Ambekar also said that RSS believes that a live-in relationship is not advisable.&nbsp;

“RSS is not an organization which believes in making laws for the society through judicial interventions. We believe in consensus,” he said.

The book is an attempt to clarify views of RSS on issues which have remained central in Indian politics. Last year, RSS organized a three-day function in Delhi on which RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat addressed several issues.&nbsp;

Despite over political focus on RSS, the organization continues to be focused on cultural issues of the society. Sunil Ambekar has been National Organising Secretary of ABVP from 2003. Through the book, he also highlights the internal working of the Sangh, its decision-making process, coordination system and means of expansion.

India on Tuesday slammed the mention of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/unsc-closed-door-meet-russia-supports-india-says-no-unsc-role-in-jammu-and-kashmir-issue-243493">Jammu and Kashmir in China-Pakistan joint statement</a> during the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and raised its concerns regarding the massive infrastructure project—the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Rejecting Jammu and Kashmir's reference, the ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, 'J&amp;K is an integral part of India.'

The joint statement issued last week said, "Both sides further exchanged views on the situation in Jammu &amp; Kashmir. The Pakistani side briefed China on the situation, including its concerns, position, and urgent humanitarian issues. China opposes any unilateral actions that complicate the situation."

&nbsp;Both Pakistan and China have been trying to rake up Kashmir at international forums after New Delhi's August 5th decision to remove the special status for the erstwhile state. On August 16 India was able to thwart a joint effort by Bejing and Islamabad to raise Kashmir at United Nations security council with Pakistan keen on an emergency session on Kashmir, which could not happen due to lack of support at the council.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, New Delhi has expressed its concern to "both China and Pakistan on the projects in so-called “China Pakistan Economic Corridor” saying it "resolutely opposed to any actions by other countries to change the status quo in Pakistan occupied J&amp;K" and asked them "to cease such actions."

CPEC passes through Pakistan occupied Kashmir, a region that has been under Pakistani occupation since 1947. India has boycotted China's One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative due to CPEC, which New Delhi says violates its sovereignty.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday is scheduled to question Indrani Mukerjea, who recently turned approver against P Chidambaram in the INX Media case.

The investigating agency will question her in the Byculla prison, where she is currently lodged in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora.

This comes a day after the agency filed an application before a special court in Mumbai to interrogate Mukerjea, which was subsequently allowed.

Mukerjea, the former head of the INX Media, had last year after giving confessional statement against Chidambaram and his son Karti, filed a petition seeking to become an approver in the case in a Delhi court.

Her plea was allowed by the court after the agency submitted that it has come across evidence in the form of conversations which only she was privy to, which would help consolidate the case.

Chidambaram, who is the prime accused in the case will be in judicial custody in Tihar jail till September 19.

The case pertains to cases registered by the CBI and the ED pertaining to alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.&nbsp;

The Tajik envoy Rahimzoda Sulton in Delhi, speaking exclusively to WION's Principal Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal lauded the Chabahar project and said it will&nbsp;provide them with the shortest route to a seaport. He also spoke on Afghanistan, with which the landlocked central country shares a long border, and India-Tajik ties. Edited excerpts:&nbsp;&nbsp;

WION: Today you mark your Independence day....

Rahimzoda Sulton: On 9th of September Tajikistan celebrates its Independence day and this morning the honourable President of the Republic of Tajikistan his Excellency Emomali Rahmon has launched the second unit of the Rogun hydropower plant.&nbsp;

Rogun hydropower plant is the biggest power station under construction and after its completion, with a capacity of 3600 MW, it will be the biggest hydropower station in Central Asia. The height of the dam will be 335 meters which will be the tallest dam in the world. It plays a very important role in the economic development of Tajikistan.&nbsp;

For a long period, we had to face a lack of electricity especially during the winter and had to close schools, hospitals. Even industries faced power shortages. This project will help to better social situation. We are very happy with this good news.

WION: How do see ties between India and Tajikistan?

Rahimzoda Sulton: India and Tajikistan have deep historical and cultural ties. Our bilateral relations have been built based on mutually beneficial cooperation. Our collaboration is increasing year by year. There have been high-level visits. We are happy to have collaboration with India and we think there is a big potential for future collaboration.&nbsp;

WION: How can India help Tajikistan achieve its development goals?

Rahimzoda Sulton: India has achieved many big developments. It is one of the biggest economies of the world, among the top 10. Prime minister Narendra Modi announced a new plan of government to make it $5 trillion economies and this is achievable. We are celebrating the 28th anniversary of our Independence and we have a lot of untapped potentials. we are interested in investment from India. Its good opportunity for Indian companies to come to Tajikistan. We are using concessional loans announced by Indian President Kovind during his visit to the country last year. We have a big resource for hydropower.

WIONl: How do you see India's Chabahar project?

Rahimzoda Sulton: Tajikistan like other Central Asian countries is landlocked, so we don't have access to seas and seaports. That is why it makes difficult for our economy especially on the export and import of goods. It's cheaper to export goods via sea than use land transportation. In this regard, this Chabahar project is a good opportunity&nbsp;and it provides an opportunity for Tajikistan to increase its exports and imports potential. It will be the shortest route to the seaport, we welcome this initiative by India and currently, we are working and understanding the different aspects of the project. It will also help in bilateral cooperation with India.&nbsp;

WION: You are a close neighbour of Afghanistan, how do you see developments in the country?

Rahimzoda Sulton: Tajikstan has the longest border with Afghanistan. Its length is more than 1300 km, and Tajikistan is interested in having a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. We welcome the initiative of the government and the people of Afghanistan to work in this direction and to have a good collaboration with neighbouring countries. We welcome the initiatives by the international community and invite them to increase their support for the economic development of Afghanistan because when the economy is developed, the social situation is better then the risk of conflict goes down. Having stable Afghanistan means it can help us provide transit to Chabahar that will help in the economic growth of our country.

India looks forward to making an effective contribution as we take over the Conference of Parties Presidency for a two-year term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) on Monday. During his address, PM Modi also urged world to put an end to single-use plastic.

"My government has announced that India will put an end to single-use plastic in the coming years," PM Modi said adding, "I believe the time has come for even the world to say goodbye to single-use plastic."

He also announced to raise "land degradation status, from 21 million hectares to 26 million hectares between now and 2030."

"It would make you happy that India has been able to increase its tree cover. Between 2015 to 2017, India’s tree and forest cover has&nbsp;increased by 0.8 million hectares," PM Modi said.

"I would like to announce that India would raise its ambition of the total area that would be restored from its land degradation status, from 21 million hectares to 26 million hectares between now and 2030," PM Modi said.

This Conference is being held at a time when India has assumed the COP Presidency for two years.&nbsp;

UNCCD was adopted in Paris on June 17, 1994, and was ratified by 196 countries and the European Union. India ratified the UNCCD Convention in 1996.

The other two Rio Conventions that emerged as a major outcome of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit were the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).&nbsp;

Last month, during his monthly radio address to the nation, 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister had pitched for launching a "new mass movement" against single-use plastic from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.&nbsp;

He also spoke about the initiative during the Independence Day address, urging people to join the movement.

"My government has announced that India will put an end to single-use plastic in the coming years," PM Modi said adding, "I believe the time has come for even the world to say goodbye to single-use plastic." He also announced to raise "land degradation status, from 21 million hectares to 26 million hectares between now and 2030." "It would make you happy that India has been able to increase its tree cover. Between 2015 to 2017, India’s tree and forest cover has increased by 0.8 million hectares," PM Modi said. "I would like to announce that India would raise its ambition of the total area that would be restored from its land degradation status, from 21 million hectares to 26 million hectares between now and 2030," PM Modi said. This Conference is being held at a time when India has assumed the COP Presidency for two years. UNCCD was adopted in Paris on June 17, 1994, and was ratified by 196 countries and the European Union. India ratified the UNCCD Convention in 1996. The other two Rio Conventions that emerged as a major outcome of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit were the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Last month, during his monthly radio address to the nation, 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister had pitched for launching a "new mass movement" against single-use plastic from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He also spoke about the initiative during the Independence Day address, urging people to join the movement.

United Nation's Human Rights Council is bracing for an India-Pakistan clash as Islamabad gets ready to rant about Kashmir at the forum. The 42nd session of the Human Rights Council will take place between September 9 and September 27.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be present in Geneva and plans to whine about Kashmir. He is scheduled to speak at 3.30 pm (IST) on Tuesday. Indian envoy to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria will also be in Switzerland for the meeting.

The development comes weeks after India was able to thwart a joint China-Pakistan initiative to rake up Kashmir at the United Nation Security Council. Islamabad wanted an emergency session on Kashmir at the UNSC and for this a consultative meet was organised on August 16.

It happened at the request of China who took up the letter of Pakistani foreign minister in the aftermath of New Delhi's decision to revoke Article 370 for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir - a completely domestic matter of India.

India's permanent envoy to United Nation Syed Akbaruddin, after the meet, had said, "Article 370 is internal matter.. these have no external ramifications."

On talks with Pakistan, Syed had said, "Using terror to push goals is not the way normal states behave. Stop terror to start talks."

Russia, France, the UK and the US had backed India at the consultations.

The outcome of the consultations on August 16 is being considered a big diplomatic victory for India as consultations did not lead to any formal meeting which Islamabad was keen to have.&nbsp;

In the aftermath of India's decision to remove the special status for Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has been trying to internationalise Kashmir by reaching out to global capitals. All efforts have failed.

In yet another blow to Pakistan's efforts to spread hate against India abroad, Iranian officials forcibly removed anti-India banners from Pakistan's consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad.

The incident took place on August 15.&nbsp;

Tehran termed the action 'undiplomatic ' warning Islamabad to refrain from spreading hate against any third country from its soil. However, Pakistan remained defiant saying the country was within rights to display the messages.

Pakistan's deputy envoy in Iran raised the matter with Iran Foreign Ministry Mohammad Javad Zarif via note verbale. Iran also added that while Pakistan is a brotherly country, India is not enemy either.

Anti-India protests have been on the rise in Iran ever since the abrogation of Article 370 which stripped the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir of its special status as Pakistan missions and diaspora continue to organise them without any permission.

This comes after the massive vandalisation of the Indian high commission in London by Pakistani diaspora and Khalistan supporters.

Global protests also took place outside Indian missions in Washington, South Korea and Germany by several Pakistani groups.

As Pakistan receives another setback, the question remains that when will Pakistan stop its petty bid to garner global support against India?

Pakistan had observed the so-called 'Kashmir solidarity day' on August 15 to protest against the abrogation of article 370.
