Border Security Force (BSF`s) pilot Wing Commander (retd) JS Sangwan, who is facing criminal charges for impersonating his senior to fly the incumbent Union Home Minister Amit Shah`s plane, has tendered resignation from the services.

Sources in the BSF said that Sangwan had filed his resignation in the first week of September which cannot be accepted as he has a pending, ongoing departmental enquiry against him.

"Till the time his enquiry is pending, the decision on his resignation cannot be taken," a senior BSF official said.

"The accused pilot had asked few questions which have been addressed appropriately by BSF," another BSF official claimed.

Sangwan, who was posted in the BSF air wing is a Kargil war veteran.

Sources in BSF claimed that accused pilot has submitted a petition seeking voluntary resignation from the services with effect from October 31.

He had sent the petition twice, first on September 2 and then on September 16.

According to reports, throughout June and July, engineering and construction firm Larsen and Toubro (L&T) received a series of emails from the BSF Air Wing, which flies Shah, requesting Sangwan be given a chance to fly L&T flights.

According to the complaint against Sangwan, the emails claimed that the pilot had nearly 4000 hours of flying experience.

The fraud unfolded when L&T contacted BSF a couple of days before he was scheduled to fly aboard with Shah.

A complaint in the matter was handed over in this regard to the Domestic Airport police station which is under investigation while an internal enquiry was also launched by the BSF.

Like United States, United Kingdom and Germany, India has also started making bulletproof jackets, said Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan adding that the domestic bullet-resistant jackets are safer, lighter, cheaper than any international manufacturing and are even being exported.

Paswan on Friday showcased the bullet-resistant jackets being made under the `Make in India` initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister expressed happiness that India has now joined a select League of Nations such as the US, UK and Germany to have its own standard for bullet-resistant jackets.

The jackets have been made using the standard set by the Bureau of India Standard (BIS) notified in December 2018.

This standard has been formulated following the directions of Niti Aayog and Ministry of Home Affairs.

The standard is expected to fulfil the long pending demand of Indian Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces and State Police Forces and will assist them in streamlining their procurement process.

Addressing the media, Paswan said that the standard that has been set by BIS is at par with International Standards.

"These jackets are lightweight weighing between 5 kilograms to 10 kilograms depending on the threat level and are of the best quality in the world," he said.

Talking about the prices of the jackets he said, these jackets range from Rs 70,000 to 80,000 which is considerably lesser than the price of the jackets which were being procured earlier.

Paswan expressed happiness at the fact that these jackets are being manufactured under 'Make in India' initiative and are already being exported to other nations.

"This will also lead to an increase in the employment generation across the nation," he said.

Ex-Army personnel showcased the jacket and explained its salient features to the media.

The jackets have a dynamic weight distribution system which makes it feel half its actual weight and also has an easy to open and release system to ensure that the jawans can easily wear and remove the jackets as per their requirement without much effort.

These jackets also allow the jawans to use his weapon with ease while getting 360-degree protection from bullets.

Protests continued during the wee hours of Saturday as authorities began cutting down trees at Mumbai`s Aarey Colony for a metro car shed, merely hours after the Bombay High Court dismissed all petitions against the move.

"What is the hurry that they are cutting down trees in the middle of the night," one of the protestors said.

Protestors gathered at the spot asking why can`t the authorities wait until a petition can be filed in the Supreme Court regarding the matter.

"It is saddening to see that the trees which provide life to others are being cut. This is happening when the government itself is urging people to plant more trees," another protester, Albert Michel said.

The site also has heavy police deployment as hundreds of people have gathered in the area to stop trees from being hacked.

The Bombay High Court had, on Friday, dismissed all petitions against the proposed cutting down of over 2,500 trees in Aarey Colony of Mumbai to make way for a Metro car shed and refused to declare the colony as a forest.

Scores of locals including environmental activists have been opposing the cutting of trees for the construction of the car shed of the metro station.

They are demanding the relocation of the bus depot, which is a part of the Metro III project.

"Now the Congress is the anti-thesis of democracy, plagued by feudal attitudes and medieval conspiracies...Congress visibly have drifted away from its basic principles and ideology. My experience of last few years has been that internal democracy in the party is being killed by selfish interests of a few lobbies", he said in his resignation letter. Tanwar`s resignation comes ahead of assembly elections in Haryana this month, for which he was also among the party`s star campaigner. Tanwar tweeted his resignation letter on Saturday and he wrote, "After long deliberations with party workers and for reasons well known to all Congressman and public, I hereby resign from the primary membership of the INC India." In a four-page resignation letter, Tanwar has expressed that Congress is going through an internal crisis. He also expressed his discontent over ticket distribution during the Lok Sabha polls and in Jind bye-elections earlier this year. In the letter, Tanwar further stated, "In the last few years there is a conspiracy going on in the party to eliminate leaders groomed by Rahul Gandhi in the last one and a half-decade." He also outlined that his fight is not personal but against the system which is destroying the grand old party.

Amid ongoing public protests against the cutting of trees at Aarey colony in Mumbai, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday backed the proposed metro shed in Aarey forest area and said that development and environment protection should be done together.

Drawing parallels between the development of Delhi metro and Mumbai metro he said, "The High Court has ruled that Aarey is not a forest. Metro came to Delhi now today it is the best metro across the world. How does it develop? When the first metro station was constructed, 20-25 trees were cut down. People then protested against it".

"But metro has planted 5 trees for every single tree that it has taken down. Now, there are 271 stations. Forest undercover area has increased in Delhi. 30 lakh people are using the metro as public transport. This is the mantra of development and protecting the environment. Both should go together," the BJP leader said.

Protests erupted on Friday at Aarey forest area after the Bombay High Court dismissed all petitions against the proposed cutting down of over 2,500 trees in Aarey Colony of Mumbai to make way for a Metro car shed and refused to declare the colony as a forest.

BJP alliance partner Shiv Sena has attacked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for backing the metro shed.Shiv Sena senior leader and Rajya Sabha lawmaker Sanjay Raut on Saturday morning posted a cartoon in which the BJP leader is blindfolding Lady Justice with a strip of cloth that reads, "Arey not a forest."

Party chief Uddhav Thackeray's son and Youth President Aaditya Thackeray asked Mumbai Metro to listen to sensible demands of sustainable development."

A project that should be executed with pride, the Metro 3, @MumbaiMetro3 has to do it in the cover of the night, with shame, slyness and heavy cop cover. The project supposed to get Mumbai clean air, is hacking down a forest with a leopard, rusty-spotted cat and more," he tweeted.

Earlier, Fadnavis had said that the government is bound to cut trees in Mumbai's Aarey forest as "development is important".

"We do not wish to cut even a single tree in Aarey, but the development is also important. We will plant more trees in place of those cut. I will personally speak to Aditya Thackeray about this," he said.Meanwhile, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC imposed in the area near the metro-rail project site in Aarey forest.
