England men's football team captain, Harry Kane, has hit back at&nbsp;Gary Lineker after the&nbsp;BBC pundit and former player called England's performance against Denmark at the ongoing European Championship 'sh*t'.&nbsp;

Kane, addressing the media ahead of the final group match against Slovenia, reminded the likes of Lineker that even they hadn't won anything for England during their playing days.&nbsp;

"I'd never want to be disrespectful to any player, especially, you know, a player who's worn the shirt and knows what it's like to play for England. I always feel like [former players and pundits] have a responsibility. I know they've got to be honest and give their opinion, but also they have a responsibility of being an ex-England player," said Kane.&nbsp;

"The bottom line is, we haven't won anything as a nation for a long, long time. And, you know, a lot of these ex-players were part of that as well... they do know that it's tough to play in these major tournaments. It's tough to play for England," he added.&nbsp;

Kane remained docile and said he wasn't "digging anyone out"&nbsp;but the reality remained that it was tough to compete in the international tournaments.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/football/euro-2024-luke-shaw-a-major-doubt-for-remainder-of-englands-tournament-as-left-back-sits-out-of-training-734149">Also read |&nbsp;Euro 2024: Luke Shaw a major doubt for remainder of England's tournament as left-back sits out of training</a>

<h2>What did Lineker say?</h2>

After England played a miserable 1-1 draw against Denmark, Lineker criticised the team for sitting deep and inviting pressure from the opponents on The Rest Is&nbsp;Football podcast.&nbsp;

The former England international dubbed Kane's concession that the team did&nbsp;not know when to press opponents as "beyond concerning", before letting out the contentious adjective.&nbsp;

"I mean, you can think of all sorts of words and expletives if you like, but it was sh*t," said Lineker, who also criticised manager Gareth Southgate.&nbsp;

"Tactically, the first game [against Serbia]… and we’ve seen it in other tournaments as well. England kind of start OK and then get a goal and then everything changes, and it’s almost like the kind of tactics of, get a lead, hang onto it," he added.&nbsp;

"Are they not coached to play that? If anyone says that the England team is not trying or not giving 100 per cent, that is nonsense. They’re just a little bit lost tactically. And that comes from the manager, I’m afraid. It really does. He’s got to get England playing higher up the pitch, as a unit. Because, at the moment, they’re not a unit.”

England would require a win in the final league match to advance to the knockouts. Failure to make it past the group stage with the talent pool England possess&nbsp;would be considered a massive failure on the part of Southgate and Kane.&nbsp;

Harry Kane tears into ex-player-turned-pundit Gary Lineker for 'sh*t' England criticism

Portugal swept into the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Saturday after comfortably seeing off Turkey 3-0 and guaranteeing first place in Group F.

Bernardo Silva's fine finish in the 21st minute, a comical Samet Akaydin own goal shortly afterwards and Bruno Fernandes's second-half tap-in gave Portugal a straightforward win in front of swathes of passionate Turkish fans in Dortmund.

Portugal looked every inch a team aiming to win their second European Championship after triumphing in 2016, their star-studded line-up&nbsp;easily dealing with Vincenzo Montella's enthusiastic but limited Turkey team.&nbsp;

Cristiano Ronaldo will have at least two more tries to become the oldest goalscorer at a European Championship as Martinez said on Friday that the 39-year-old is in the right shape to play every four days.

It was Ronaldo who unselfishly set up Fernandes for a simple goal in the 56th minute after springing through Turkey's offside trap, and he then had time to pose for a selfie with a child fan who invaded the pitch midway through the second half.

Martinez's side, on a perfect six points, will face one of the four best third-place finishers in the next round and go into their final group game against Georgia without any pressure for a result.

The same cannot be said for Turkey who need a draw against the Czech Republic on Wednesday to ensure second place.

Turkey's passionate support again flocked to the Westfalenstadion in huge numbers, with long tailbacks on the roads leading to the ground several hours before the 6:00 pm (1600 GMT) kick-off.

Some fans sat on the top of cars leading chants among the thousands of supporters who crawled towards their destination.

<h2>Pitch invaders</h2>

Once inside what was effectively a home crowd let out a deafening chorus of whistles and jeers when Portugal jogged out for their pre-match warm-up.

However, once the match got underway there was a clear gap in class between the two sides and Portugal went deservedly ahead through Silva as the Manchester City midfielder confidently smashed in Nuno Mendes's deflected low cross.

Soon after, Akaydin gifted Portugal a two-goal lead with his sloppy backpass which turned into an own goal as Zeki Celik and goalkeeper Altay Bayindir tried in vain to prevent the ball crossing the line.

Those two goals and the dominance of the Portuguese players quietened down the partisan crowd and the result was sealed when Fernandes stroked home his former Manchester United teammate Ronaldo's present of a pass.

The Portugal fans then turned up the volume to celebrate their country reaching the last 16.

And cheers then rang around the ground from both sets of supporters as a pint-sized fan ran onto the pitch midway through the second half, just as the game was stopped to allow Nelson Semedo to replace Joao Cancelo for Portugal.

The youngster was cool enough to grab an amused Ronaldo for a photo and then dashed off on a mazy run his hero would have been proud of, dropping his shoulder on security staff before eventually being carted away from the pitch.

Ronaldo was less amused when five much larger fans then made copycat bids for selfies, only to be showered with boos and refused a photo before annoyed stewards reached them.

At least 10 people were left injured after a metal scaffolding with a banner collapsed over fans, gathered to watch a friendly match between&nbsp;Eredivisie team FC Twente and&nbsp;amateur side Stevo at De Peuverweide sports park in Geesteren, in the east of the Netherlands on Saturday (Jun 22).&nbsp;

The Euro 2024 game between Portugal and Turkiye on Saturday (June 22) was stopped multiple times due to Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo's fans. The 39-year-old's fans came on the pitch four times during the game and twice after the final whistle, prompting referee to delay the game.

In the first incident, a boy not older than 10 came running onto the pitch with a phone. The former Real Madrid player posed and smiled with his young fan in the 70th minute of the game. Watch the incident below:

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez was understanding of fans' intentions but didn't like the game being stopped.

As for the game, Portugal won the battle 3-0, thanks to a goal each by Bernardo Silva in 21st minute and Bruno Fernandes in 56th minute. The third one was a self goal by Turkiye's Samet Akaydin in 28th minute of the game.

The hacker responsible for exposing Manchester City of fudging the Premier League Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, way back in 2018, has now threatened to release more evidence against the UAE-owned club.

The hacker responsible for exposing Manchester City of fudging the Premier League Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, way back in 2018, has now threatened to release more evidence against the UAE-owned club. The hacker named, Rui Pinto, founder of the website 'Football Leaks' has alleged that he provided authorities in Germany and France with 'millions' of damning documents that will show City's 'criminal relevancy'. "The Man City releases showed amounts of money being paid into by the club that were not mentioned to the football authorities. These documents are from part of the Premier League investigation into City," Pinto told the OffShore-Alert Marbella Conference via video link. "I have now handed five hard drives to French and German authorities with millions of documents, including more on City and I have described what is on each. I am confident they will find criminal relevancy," he added. Pinto has been under a witness protection programme since 2020 after being handed a four-year suspended sentence by a court in Portugal last year. He avoided prison, despite being found guilty of illegal access to data and attempted extortion. Pinto's legal counsel said they hadn't made the information public yet and refrained from providing a timeline on the said expose. "We have been approached by investigators to share information regarding Manchester City that has not been released before. We haven’t released the information yet but we have a massive file of Manchester City-related documents that has yet to be released. The files will be published at some point, we cannot say when but we will do it." The Portuguese whistleblower had previously leaked plans between clubs to attempt to form the European Super League - a rival to the current UEFA Champions League, along with details of salaries of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Pinto's actions led UEFA to ban City from European competitions for two years but the decision was overturned as the club owned by the vice president of UAE, used its legion of attorneys to get the decision in its favour. The Manchester-based club is facing 115 charges related to the breach of Premier League regulations. The club is accused of providing inaccurate financial information between 2009 to 2018. It also failed to provide accurate details for player and manager payments from 2009 to 2018. Additionally, it failed to comply with UEFA's ruling, including Financial Fair Play (FFP) between 2013-14 and 2017-18. Between 2015 to 2018, the club has been charged with seven breaches of Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). While the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest have been punished this season for breaching PSR, City are yet to face any action. (With inputs from agencies)

Austria boosted their hopes of reaching the Euro 2024 knockout rounds on Friday as Marko Arnautovic scored in an impressive 3-1 win over Poland, for whom Robert Lewandowski only managed an ineffective substitute appearance.

Ralf Rangnick's Austria will likely secure qualification for the last 16 if they can avoid defeat in their final Group D game against the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Poland can no longer finish in the top two and almost certainly need to defeat France to have any chance of progressing as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Gernot Trauner headed Austria into a deserved early lead before Krzysztof Piatek, who had missed their opening loss to the Netherlands, equalised for Poland in the 30th minute.

Lewandowski was introduced for his first appearance of the tournament with half an hour remaining, but was a peripheral figure as Poland slipped to the brink of elimination.

Christoph Baumgartner put Austria back in front after a fine team move and an end-to-end game was killed off by Arnautovic's 78th-minute penalty.

Austria, who reached the knockout phase at a major tournament for the first time since 1954 at Euro 2020, will be sure of going through if they defeat the Dutch, who face France later Friday.

Lewandowski was not fit enough to start after suffering a thigh injury last week, despite Poland coach Michal Probierz saying he was hopeful the Barcelona striker would be able to play.

Fans from the two countries, which both border Germany, packed out the Olympiastadion.

The Poland supporters who had made the short trip outnumbered their counterparts, but it was the wall of fans in red Austrian shirts who were bouncing up and down in celebration less than nine minutes in.

Their team started in dominant fashion and were rewarded with the lead when defender Trauner powered a header past Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after clever wing play from left-back Phillipp Mwene.

Poland grew into the contest, though, and Nicola Zalewski passed up a good opportunity to equalise when he blazed over.

The two most recent meetings between the teams, in Euro 2020 qualifying, produced only one goal.

<h2>Piatek strikes</h2>

But an entertaining game this time was level just before the half-hour mark, as Piatek pounced to slot in from close range after Trauner blocked Jan Bednarek's shot.

Austria wasted an excellent chance to restore their advantage with a three-on-two attack, but Bednarek threw himself in the way of Marcel Sabitzer's effort.

Rangnick's side almost found themselves behind in first-half added time when goalkeeper Patrick Pentz was forced into a diving stop by Piotr Zielinski's free-kick.

Austria began the second half brightly, with Szczesny holding Stefan Posch's header.

A huge roar went up around the stadium as Lewandowski made his entrance in the 60th minute.

His only involvement of note was to pick up a yellow card shortly after coming on for catching Philipp Lienhart in the face with his elbow.

Austria moved back ahead with a wonderfully-worked goal in the 66th minute.

Arnautovic dummied substitute Alexander Prass' incisive pass and Baumgartner took a touch and coolly placed the ball into the bottom corner.

Austria could have wrapped up the three points with 15 minutes left when Patrick Wimmer's low strike was pushed to safety by the increasingly busy Szczesny.

But the third goal arrived shortly afterwards as Arnautovic calmly put away a penalty after Sabitzer bore down on goal and was felled by Szczesny.

Austria threatened to make the final scoreline embarrassing for Poland, with Szczesny making a brilliant fingertip stop from Posch's long-range drive.

The Poles were suddenly a shambles and Konrad Laimer dribbled a shot wide of an open goal after rounding Sczcesny, but even that miss could not take the gloss off Austria's third win at a major tournament in 34 years.

Austria boosted their hopes of reaching the Euro 2024 knockout rounds on Friday as Marko Arnautovic scored in an impressive 3-1 win over Poland, for whom Robert Lewandowski only managed an ineffective substitute appearance.

Euro 2024: Austria down Poland to close on last 16 despite Robert Lewandowski's late return

Bayern Munich are reportedly moving closer to signing Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise as he moves a step closer to joining the German giants. Olise, who has been a standout player for Palace in the Premier League for the last two seasons had attracted interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United but will now move to the Bayern, despite a new deal being offered. Olise’s arrival could be a huge boost for the side who ended the season with no trophies last term for the first time in over a decade.

<h2>Olise to Bayern?</h2>

According to prominent football journalists, Bayern will reportedly pay a sum of $60m for the services of the 22-year-old. He will be a big addition to the midfield and a perfect replacement for Leon Goretzka who is linked with a move away from the club. While the playmaker’s 2023-24 season was hampered with injuries he still ended up scoring 10 goals in 19 matches in the Premier League. However, it was the 2022-23 season where he made his mark having missed only one Premier League match and was an ever-present in the midfield for Palace.

He will join Vincent Kompany’s roster as he prepares to take charge of the side in the coming days. Bayern’s transfer deals with London clubs in recent times have been the highlight reel having signed Harry Kane in the summer of 2023 which was followed by Eric Dier’s switch in the winter as both arrived from Tottenham Hotspur. As things stand, they are also moving closer to a deal to sign Joao Palhinha from another London-based club Fulham.

Under new management, Bayern will be pushing for a fresh start having lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 season. The German giants finished third in the Bundesliga and will not play in the DFL Super Cup at the start of next season. They will be eying a revival under Kompany who was announced as the new Bayern boss in May, despite facing relegation with Burnley.

They reached the Champions League semifinal having beaten Arsenal on their way to the last four. However, a controversial call in the final minute of the Champions League semifinal second leg saw them face elimination against Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich transfer news: German giants agree deal with Crystal Palace for Michael Olise switch

England's Jarrod Bowen defended England's lacklustre start to Euro 2024 on Saturday (June 22) after two underwhelming performances so far in the tournament.

Gareth Southgate's side have one foot in the knockout stage as they top Group C with four points.

However, a lack of fluidity in their 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday (June 20) and an unwillingness to press had England fans booing them off the pitch.

West Ham's Bowen was keen to impress that the perceived slow start to the tournament is down to the high standards they have already set and that 4 points is a good return at this stage of the tournament.

''No, listen, I get it as well (on criticism of England's performance in last game) You know, because you want to win the games and you want to be in the best position possible. But, you know, sometimes it's it's not as easy as that. And it's, you know, the support here is...like a like I said before, it's my first tournament. So it's my first time seeing, you know, England at a major tournament with the fans and the following that it is. You know for me it's, you know, one of the best. And yes, we're disappointed that we haven't won the game," Bowen said.

Southgate led training at England's Blankenhain training base earlier in the day ahead of their final group stage game against Slovenia on Tuesday (June 25).

Euro 2024: 'It's not as easy,' England's Jarrod Bowen on team's lackluster start in tournament

Patrik Schick chested home to earn the Czech Republic a 1-1 draw against debutants Georgia on Saturday in an entertaining match, but it leaves both teams in a tricky spot in Euro 2024 Group F.

They have a point each ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal facing Turkey later on, as the top two clash having already beaten the Czechs and Georgia respectively.

Georgia coach Willy Sagnol said his players' disappointment at their opening defeat showed how far his team has come, and they gave everything in Hamburg to earn their first Euros point.

Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili made a string of superb saves to keep his team in the game and they took the lead just before the break through Georges Mikautadze's penalty.

However Schick reprised his Euro 2020 goalscoring heroics with an improvised finish to leave honours even at the end of a pulsating clash.

"Of course one-all is not enough for us -- we were better throughout the game, we had more chances, unfortunately the goalkeeper stopped everything in the first half, and then came the unfortunate penalty," Schick told Czech television.

"It didn't go our way, we were able to equalise, we pushed them but were not able to score a second... we have a point and will play for everything in the last game."

Georgia's key attacking duo Mikautadze and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia both needed medical treatment in the warm-up but were able to start the match.

They pressed with fury from the off but it was Ivan Hasek's Czech side who carved out the first clear chances and peppered the Georgia goal.

Valencia stopper Mamardashvili made fine early saves to deny Adam Hlozek and then Schick on a busy afternoon.

Georgia wanted a penalty when Zuriko Davitashvili fell under pressure from Ladislav Krejci, but their appeals were waved away.

After both sides were beaten in their opening matches, they were under pressure to take three points at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, leading to a thoroughly entertaining end-to-end game.

In their thrilling opening defeat by Turkey Georgia's fans were outnumbered, but here they were in the majority and every time Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia got the ball in opposition territory they began to roar.

Hlozek put the ball into the back of the Georgian net after 23 minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review for handball.

The striker's first effort was saved by Mamardashvili, with the rebound hitting Hlozek in the face and then his arm before crossing the line.

In first half stoppage time Czech goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek saved brilliantly from Georgia captain Guram Kashia but VAR spotted a handball in the build-up by defender Robin Hranac and the referee awarded a penalty.

Mikautadze dispatched it confidently to give his side the lead at the interval, but not before Mamardashvili brilliantly saved low from Schick.

The Czechs were back level when Euro 2020 joint top scorer Schick chested home from close range after substitute Ondrej Lingr's header from a corner bounced back off the post.

Schick's strike took him ahead of Milan Baros as their top ever Euros scorer with six goals but the Bayer Leverkusen forward limped off with an apparent calf injury midway through the second half.

Georgia had a glorious chance right at the end of the match to win the game but at the end of a three-on-one break, substitute Saba Lobjanidze blazed over with just the goalkeeper to beat.

It might have been an historic moment for the Atlanta United forward but he leant back and watched the ball sail into the agonising Georgia fans behind the goal.

Georgia players collapsed to the turf at full-time, devastated at the chance to win the game slipping through their fingers.

"Our first point is a historic moment, of course we could have won right at the last, I am disappointed about that but this is football and anything can happen," said Mamardashvili.

"Of course it's an important moment but he needs to keep on going. He should be proud, we earned our first point."

Euro 2024: Czechia work hard to earn draw against valiant Georgia

Netherlands and France played out a draw in the ongoing Euro 2024 on Thursday (June 21) but the Dutch coach Ronald Koeman wasn't happy with a goal being disallowed.

The goal in question had happed in second-half, thanks to a strike from Xavi Simons. It was eventually deemed offside and hence disallowed after Denzel Dumfries was seen standing next to French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.&nbsp;

"The position of Dumfries is offside, that's true. But he isn't disturbing the goalkeeper. And when that does not happen then it's a legal goal in my opinion," the Dutch coach said during at the post-match presentation.

"Did they need five minutes to check it because it's so difficult? I don't understand this. He's not disturbing the goalkeeper," he added.

The game ended in a goalless draw but the Dutch coach wasn't much bothered about it instead rather satisfied with the result.

"Although I think that the goal should have stood, my takeaway from this is it is a fair result.

"I can accept this, although there were times during the game where we weren't up to scratch and that's probably due to the fact that we were up against a great opponent in France.

"But we have four points from two games and played against the big favourites. I would have signed up for that beforehand. I'm happy, I don't know about you (reporters)," he said.

"Maybe you'll say the Dutch were boring and defensive, and that is allowed. But I had the feeling France were happy to leave the field with a point too."

Euro 2024: Dutch coach Ronald Koeman 'not happy with offside goal' being disallowed against France

England’s bid to win the Euro 2024 could be in shatters after their only recognised left-back Luke Shaw is now a major doubt for the remainder of the tournament. Shaw, who has not played competitive football since February was included in the England squad provided he recovers on time for the knockouts. However, the defender missed team training on Saturday (June 22) and fears that he is likely to miss the rest of the tournament.

<h2>Shaw out of Euro 2024?</h2>

On Saturday, all of England’s squad except Shaw were seen in the training session ahead of their final group game against Slovenia on Tuesday evening. While England are favourites to reach the last 16, Gareth Southgate&nbsp;will have to be without a recognised left-back yet again. The Manchester United defender is struggling with a muscle issue and could get on the plane home to England if there is no progress.

According to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, Shaw was only going to be available for the knockout stage, but that possibility is also in jeopardy with the latest setback.

England have so far used Kieran Tripper in the left-back role despite him being a natural right-back and a back-up to Kyle Walker. Southgate has faced plenty of criticism for choosing three right-backs over one unfit left-back. In case, Shaw is ruled out for the rest of the Euro 2024 Southgate will have to compete with Tripper and Co. to fill in the spots.

The English gaffer opted against taking Ben Chilwell to the Euros, who is also struggling with injuries. Joe Gomez now remains the only other option for Southgate in the squad if Tripper is also unavailable. Levi Colwill was also mentioned as one of the options but was again not a first choice in the 26-man squad.

As things stand, England are next in action on Tuesday (June 25) with a draw good enough for the Euro 2020 runners-up to move into the R16. However, England could face elimination from the tournament, in case they lose to Slovenia while Denmark beat Serbia. England in this case would finish third and could still get eliminated if they are not one of the four best third-finishing sides.

Southgate has faced plenty of criticism for choosing three right-backs over one unfit left-back. In case, Shaw is ruled out for the rest of the Euro 2024 Southgate will have to compete with Tripper and Co. to fill in the spots. ALSO READ | ‘4-5 Pakistan players were sleeping in dressing room’ – Mohammad Hafeez exposes behind-the-scenes scenario The English gaffer opted against taking Ben Chilwell to the Euros, who is also struggling with injuries.

Euro 2024: Spain enter Round of 16 after topping group of death following 1-0 win vs Italy

World champions Argentina opened their bid for back-to-back Copa America titles with a 2-0 win over Canada in front of a crowd of 70,564 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday. Julian Alvarez put Argentina ahead in the 49th minute but a combination of inspired goalkeeping from Canada's Max Crepeau and Lionel Messi's surprising lack of precision in front of goal ensured that the underdogs were in the game until Lautaro Martinez settled the contest in the 88th minute.

Backed by a huge support decked out in light blue and white striped shirts, Argentina fully deserved their victory but Canada, ranked 48th in the world, can take plenty of credit for the way they fought with the 15-time Copa America winners.

Alvarez, preferred to Lautaro as Messi's strike partners in attack, had the first opportunity when he charged down an attempted clearance from Ismael Kone and broke away. But the Manchester City striker took a heavy touch as he bore down on Canada keeper Max Crepeau, who was able to smother the ball.

Messi, who became the most capped player in Copa America history, making his 35th appearance in what is his seventh tournament, then went close to an opener himself but his angled shot from the left flashed just wide of the far post.

While the Argentines were exploiting gaps in the Canadian defence, Jesse Marsch's team were nonetheless competing in midfield and creating some half-chances for themselves.

Alphonso Davies and Liam Millar both had shots blocked inside the box and Tajon Buchanan screwed an effort from a tight angle wide in the 30th minute.

The first true save of the game came in the 40th minute, though, when Alexis Mac Allister's stooping header from an Angel Di Maria cross was well dealt with by Crepeau.

But Argentina needed their goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, to be at his very best to ensure they went in on level terms at the interval.

Cyle Larin's cross from the right wing was met with a powerful header from close-range from Stephen Eustaquio but Martinez's sharp reaction save kept the game goalless.

<h2>- Break deadlock -</h2>

But it took less than four minutes of the second half for Argentina to break the deadlock -- Messi threaded a pass through to Mac Allister, who was brought down by Crepeau, but before the referee could blow his whistle Alvarez had slotted home the loose ball.

Within moments, there was another chance for Alvarez, but this time denied by the diving Crepeau and Canada could live to fight on. They did so with more urgency and a little more risk after coach Jesse Marsch introduced winger Jacob Shaffelburg and switched to an attacking 4-3-3 formation.

Suddenly the Argentine defence was under pressure and didn't look at all comfortable as Canada got men forward and exploited the wide areas.

But they were almost caught out with a classic counter-attack as Martinez launched a quick long ball towards Messi, who broke way goalwards but with the crowd expecting to see the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner on target he made a hash of the chance.

His initial effort was parried by Crepeau and although Messi latched on to the loose ball and sought to go round the keeper, his shot was easily cleared by the covering Derek Cornelius.

Incredibly there was another great opportunity for the former Barcelona star to find the target and again he was unable to convert -- cutting in from the right with only Crepeau to beat, Messi opened up his body but slid his shot wide of the post.

Crepeau was at his best again to keep out substitute Lautaro as Argentina struggled to put the game to bed but with two minutes of normal time remaining they did just that.

Messi produced another clinical, defence-splitting pass and this time Lautaro made no mistake, slipping past the advancing Crepeau to make it 2-0.

France’s Kylian Mbappe could be on the verge of returning early to action on the field despite suffering a broken nose at the ongoing Euro 2024. Real Madrid striker Mbappe sustained a fractured nose in the clash against Switzerland when he collided with defender Kevin Danso in the 86th minute. While it was expected that Mbappe could miss the Netherlands clash, it is now likely that he could be on the bench&nbsp;(June 21) against the Dutch, provided he wears a protective mask on his nose.

<h2>Mbappe’s mask issue with UEFA</h2>

However, the French captain will have to be careful to avoid breaking a UEFA rule which restricts him from wearing the tri-colour mask he had used in the training on Thursday. Mbappe, having returned to training quickly used a tri-colour mask that demonstrated France’s flag. While there are no issues for him using the tri-colour mask in the training, it can’t be used during any match of the ongoing Euro 2024 in Germany.

"Medical equipment worn on the field of play must be a single colour and free of team and manufacturer identification," reads a portion of UEFA's regulations.

This means the French superstar will have to wear a single colour (more likely to be black) mask if he decides to take the field against the Netherlands on Friday. It is also reported that Mbappe won’t have surgery on his nose at least until the end of the Euro 2024.

<h2>What happens if Mbappe wears a tri-colour mask?</h2>

In case, Mbappe tries to enter the field with a tri-colour mask, he will not be permitted onto the field by the fourth official. However, if he still manages to enter the field with the mask, the referee could show him a yellow card for violating the code of conduct. In case Mbappe is shown a yellow card he will miss the final group game against Poland on Tuesday, as he already carries a yellow card to his disciplinary record.

UEFA rules also state that, if a player is booked twice at any stage of the Euro before the semifinal stage, he must serve a one-game suspension.

Denmark's male footballers have refused a salary increase for playing for the national side to gain their female counterparts equal basic pay, the players' union said on Friday.&nbsp;

"The men's team chose not to ask for a salary increase ... to improve the conditions of the women's team," union spokesperson Magnus Hviid told AFP.&nbsp;

He welcomed "an extraordinary measure to help take this small step in the right direction", but acknowledged there were "still more glass ceilings to break to ensure equal opportunities and conditions within national teams".&nbsp;

Slovenian hearts were broken at the Euro 2024 on Thursday (June 20) after former Real Madrid star Luka Jovic scored a last-gasp equaliser for Serbia. Playing in their second group stage match, Serbia trailed since the 69th minute before scoring the important goal to keep their hopes alive to reach the Round of 16 at the Euro 2024. The draw also keeps both Serbia and Slovenia in contention for the knockout stage but will need huge favours on the final matchday.

<h2>Luka Jovic breaks Slovenian hearts</h2>

Having lost to England in their opening match, Serbia walked into the match as favourites against Slovenia. However, they were kept at bay until the half time as no goal was scored from either team. But&nbsp;that deadlock was broken against the run of play in the 69th minute when Zan Kanicnik found the back of the net.

The lead was kept intact until the 90th minute as goalkeeper Jan Oblak was in super form in between the sticks. With five minutes added at the end of the match, Serbia decided to call on goalkeeper Predrag Rajković as they chased the match to earn a point with a corner being awarded. The corner kick was delivered swiftly which was headed in by Luka Jovic with Oblak unable to deal with the ball that&nbsp;found the back of the net as Serbia snatched a draw in the end in a dramatic fashion.

However, they were kept at bay until the half time as no goal was scored from either team. But that deadlock was broken against the run of play in the 69th minute when Zan Kanicnik found the back of the net. The lead was kept intact until the 90th minute as goalkeeper Jan Oblak was in super form in between the sticks. With five minutes added at the end of the match, Serbia decided to call on goalkeeper Predrag Rajković as they chased the match to earn a point with a corner being awarded. The corner kick was delivered swiftly which was headed in by Luka Jovic with Oblak unable to deal with the ball that found the back of the net as Serbia snatched a draw in the end in a dramatic fashion. <h2>Denmark earn valuable draw</h2>

Entering the match with high confidence having beaten Serbia 1-0, England were offered a reality check in the second match by Denmark. Skipper Harry Kane helped the Euro 2020 runners-up with an early lead having scored in the 18th minute. He pounced on a mistake at the back for the Danish side and struck with his left foot to give his side the lead. However, that lead did not last long as the Danish side came back to life in the 34th minute.

Hjulmand was given a neat pass by Christian Eriksen in the 34th minute as he scored yet another goal from outside the box. A helpless Jordan Pickford was unable to save the ball which was struck with an acute angle. The goal cancelled out Kane’s opener to make it 1-1 while no more goals were scored in the match.

In the 55th minute, Phil Foden struck the base of the Denmark goal, however, he could not get the better of Kasper Schmeichel. Gareth Southgate also made bold decisions in the final 20 minutes of the match as he brought off the trio of Kane, Bukayo Saka and Foden replacing them with Eberechi Eze, Ollie Watkins and Jarrod Bowen. Igor Simac has opened up for the first time after being sacked as the India men's senior football team head coach. The Croatian gaffer took to his social media handles to post a message, thanking the fans for the bond they had forged in the past five years. Stimac said an 'environment of hope and belief' was created during his five-year tenure as the head coach of the Blue Tigers. "To all Indian football fans and my blue tigers. It’s been an honour to serve you over the last 5 years. I didn’t expect to form such a strong bond with this country and be so personally invested when I first joined you all. I’m proud of every player and team member. Together," Stimac's post read. Stimac also gave a subtle jab to the critics by enlisting the challenges he had to face, ranging from bureaucratic hassles to the pandemic. "Together we survived the FIFA ban, the administrators running the football house, 2 years of pandemic followed by winning 2 SAFF Championships, Intercontinental Cup and the Tri-Nation Cup, taking India back to the Top 100 after a long time and showing how we can compete against stronger teams," said Stimac. Argentina's World Cup winning footballer Lionel Messi has said Brazilian player Neymar's absence from upcoming Copa America 2024 is 'a shame.' While Neymar is out with a knee injury, Messi insisted that Brazil is still a candidate to win the tournament.

"It [Neymar's absence] is a shame, but they have a million players," Messi said, as reported by sports news outlet ESPN.

"Brazil always has plenty of players because they are continually different. They have a very strong, very competitive team. Brazil is like Argentina: it's a candidate and wants to win the Copa América," he added.

The 36-year-old footballer also talked about Argentina's chances and said that they'd have be at their best to defend their title.

"Today, we can say that we are the best because we are the world champions. But that does not make us believe that we are going to win this Copa América by walking," Messi said.

"It is going to be very level, all the teams are complicated. Ecuador has a generation of very good youngsters, who know well what they want, they are intense with the ball, they are clear about what they do and they are physically strong. And like them, you also have Colombia, Uruguay, not to mention Brazil. That's why I say it will be even and our team is aware that we are going to have to continue doing the same and more to win again," he added.

Argentina had won the last Copa America by beating Brazil 1-0 in the final three years ago for the South American nation's first big title in nearly three decades.&nbsp;

Since then, Argentina have also managed to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 and have won five of their six 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier games as well.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blasted the Premier League authorities as the club faces multiple off-field issues. United, who will enter the first&nbsp;full season under Ratcliffe’s co-ownership will have the huge task of balancing the pay slip with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) restricting them from spending. According to Ratcliffe, Premier League regulations have seen Manchester United hire more people for off-field work than on-field.

“We’ve got more accountants than we’ve got sporting people at Manchester United,” Ratcliffe said in an interview. “If you’re not careful, the Premier League will finish spending more time in court than it is thinking about what’s good for the league.”

Members of Parliaments from all sides have called for introducing a football regulator, while clubs have been penalised for breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. &nbsp;Champions Manchester City launched an assault on the legality of Premier League’s Associated Party Transactions — regulations that are designed to prevent teams from signing inflated sponsorship deals with companies linked to their owners.

United like City could be dragged into PSR and FFP sanctions if they spend more than their current losses during the summer transfer window. The club is also restricted by UEFA (European football’s governing body) from signing players due to an unknown rule.

<h2>Why is UEFA restricting Manchester United from signing players?</h2>

According to UEFA rules, "No individual or legal entity may have control or influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition," with control defined as: "Being able to exercise by any means a decisive influence in the decision-making of the club."

Under this provision, United cannot sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo as both the French club and Manchester United come under the same bracket of owners and will be unable to sign players. Both United and Nice will also compete in the Europa League, which again adds restrictions on the club’s purchases in the European market. &nbsp;

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Son Heung-min, has opened up for the first time after teammate&nbsp;Rodrigo Bentancur used a racial slur when referring to him. Son said he had spoken to&nbsp;Bentancur and that the two were 'past' the incident.&nbsp;

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Son Heung-min, has opened up for the first time after teammate Rodrigo Bentancur used a racial slur when referring to him. Son said he had spoken to Bentancur and that the two were 'past' the incident. The South Korean player took to his official Instagram handle to post a story asserting that the two were brothers. "I've spoken with Lolo. He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised. Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all," wrote Son. "We're past this, we're united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one," he added. Spurs also released a statement saying the club will educate the players on the diversity and quality. "Following a comment from Rodrigo Bentancur in an interview video clip and the player’s subsequent public apology, the club has been providing assistance in ensuring a positive outcome on the matter. This will include further education for all players in line with our diversity, equality and inclusion objectives." Son Heung-min breaks silence on Tottenham teammate Rodrigo Bentancur's racist comment

Igor Stimac&nbsp;has promised to reveal the 'flow of events' that has led to the current sorry state of football in the country, days after being sacked as Indian men's senior football team head coach. The governing body for football, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) fired Stimac earlier this week after the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers debacle.&nbsp;

While Stimac was the first to receive the fall after India failed to advance to the third round of the WC&nbsp;Qualifiers, the problems in Indian football run deeper than the sacking of a manager. AIFF has been accused of bureaucratic mess and corruption that has stifled the growth of the sport in the country and Stimac might be exposing some of the officials if his post is any indication.&nbsp;

"Hello my dear friends from Indian Media. I'm sure you, alike me, are stressed, disturbed and worried having seen the state of the national football over the last few months. You have every right to know the flow of events that put us here," wrote Stimac.&nbsp;

Referring to himself as a 'true Indian', Stimac said he will 'open the cards for the last time' on Friday (Jun 21).&nbsp;

"I am a true INDIAN and I tried to help in whatever way I could. Let's join in a friendly chat session at 14:00 IST on 21-06-24 and open the cards for the last time! Jai Hind!"

<h2>Stimac threatens to sue AIFF</h2>

Notably, after Stimac's sacking, media&nbsp;reports claimed that he had threatened to sue AIFF if it didn't settle his dues for 'terminating the contract' within the next 10 days.&nbsp;

The Croatian gaffer said that AIFF had previously stopped him from giving the truth to the Indian fans about the mess behind the scenes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I don’t want to speak or hear from AIFF anymore because AIFF has caused me enough health problems with its acts. Your "show cause notice" and "final warning letter" did stop me from speaking the truth to Indian fans, and it did give me two stents just prior to the AFC Asian Cup, but didn’t stop me from giving it all to my team," said Stimac in the alleged bombshell email to AIFF.&nbsp;

"I hope India will find a way out of the mess, created not by me or anyone under my leadership in the last few years, and will always be in my heart!"

At the beginning of the year, Stimac had made the bold claim that he would resign from his position if India failed to advance to the third round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Despite being in a good position to secure the qualification, India lost the home match against Afghanistan and later succumbed to a controversial ghost goal in the final league match of the campaign against Qatar.&nbsp;
