The Duchess of Sussex wrote the card attached to the wreath sent by her and Prince Harry to ensure that, in a small way, she played a part in the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral service.

Prince Philip laid to rest in Royal Vault at Windsor Castle

Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday laid to rest her late husband, Prince Philip, in a royal funeral like no other, curtailed by coronavirus restrictions but reflecting his long life of military and public service.

Philip, who died on April 9 aged 99, was interred in the Royal Vault at St George's Chapel, at Windsor Castle, west of London, after a 50-minute service attended by just 30 guests but watched by millions on television.

Funeral procession begins for Queen Elizabeth II's husband, Prince Philip

Prince Philip began his final journey on Saturday, as his coffin was taken to his funeral, followed slowly by his grieving children and widow, Queen Elizabeth II.

The couple's four children  -- Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward -- walked behind the coffin, borne on a modified Land Rover hearse, through the grounds of Windsor Castle to St George's Chapel.

Accompanying them were his grandsons, princes William and Harry, and the Queen, who was in a Bentley car.

Minute's silence held across the UK in memory of Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday led Britain in one minute of silence in memory of her late husband, Prince Philip, before his funeral and burial at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The 94-year-old monarch, dressed in mourning black, joined other senior royals at the chapel as the Duke of Edinburgh's coffin arrived and a military gun fired to signal the start of the solemn tribute.

Brothers Prince William and Prince Harry made their entrance in the royal family member procession to their grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. It is the first time the brothers have been publicly seen together following their recent rift.

British sport pays respects to Prince Philip 

British sport stopped to pay tribute to Prince Philip ahead of his funeral on Saturday with two minutes' silence held before Newcastle's Premier League match against West Ham and several Championship fixtures on Saturday.

Several sporting events were moved to avoid a clash with the 1400 GMT funeral, but Newcastle's meeting with West Ham kicked off at its scheduled 1130 GMT time, with both teams lining up around the centre-circle for the period of silence before kick-off at sombre St James' Park.
