Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan is "out of danger" and stable after being shot in the leg two to three times at a political rally on Thursday (November 1). Massive protests have erupted in different parts of the country as supporters of the chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party show anger over the shocking incident that killed one and injured 13 people. The cricketer-turned-politician was ousted from government in April after a no-confidence motion, and ever since he has railed against the establishment and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's government, calling it a "conspiracy". Several PTI party officials were hit by the spray of gunfire and Khan escaped with a bullet wound to his right calf. The firing was aimed at their modified container truck as it slowly drove through a thick crowd near Gujranwala. He said, "Those who have listened to the evidence will not be surprised that I am highly critical of many aspects of the rescue operation." Since there weren't enough ambulances to transport the injured to the hospital, Atkinson was taken from the scene together with the other victims of the explosion using temporary stretchers made of advertising hoardings and railings. His family said in a statement: "It is now clear beyond any doubt that on the night of the bombing John was totally failed at every stage." × ALSO READ | UK climate minister Stuart concedes language used by Braverman 'unfortunate' The youngest victim, Saffie-Rose Roussos, may have survived if the rescue effort had been efficient, according to Saunders, even though it was clear from the evidence that 20 people would have perished from their wounds. Manchester Arena bombing: If emergency response wasn't 'inadequate', one victim could have survived

Bank of England (BoE) raised interest rates on Thursday (November 3), the most since 1989, to counteract the sky-high inflation. According to BoE, inflation is driving Britain into a recession that will endure until mid-2024.

The BoE announced after a meeting that it was raising borrowing costs by 0.75 percentage points to three per cent, the highest level since the global financial crisis of 2008. The decision to an interest rate hike is taken to curb UK inflation, which it predicts will soon reach a four-decade high of close to 11 per cent.

BoE governor Andrew Bailey told a press conference: "It is a tough road ahead. The sharp increase in energy prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine has made us poorer as a nation. The level of economic activity is likely to be flat and even fall for some time."

With rising food and energy prices, the most recent rate increase is a reflection of aggressive rate tightening by central banks around the world. The US Federal Reserve abruptly raised interest rates by 0.75 percentage points on Wednesday, and its chairman, Jerome Powell, hinted that rates will rise more than anticipated.

Some Ukrainians are 'recycling' a downed Russian jet by turning them into luggage tags: Report

Amid the conundrum over the use of Iranian drones by Russia in the Ukraine war, the United States is saying that it has concrete information that indicates North Korea is secretly supplying Russia with a "significant" number of artillery shells for the ongoing war.

In a virtual briefing, the White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby said on Wednesday (November 2) that North Korea was attempting to obscure the shipments by funnelling them through countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
