Israel is far superior to Hamas. However, the militant group has been using an ingenious weapon to surprise the Israelis. They have dug a labyrinth of tunnels deep inside Gaza. These tunnels are used to smuggle & store weapons. Wion's Ghadi Francis visited these tunnels in 2013. Since then, these tunnels have expanded deeper and wider. Take a look at this report to get a sense of the City of Tunnels.

At least seven killed in suicide attack on Afghan Shiite mosque

Researchers have found that female frogs often fake their own deaths to avoid persistent males, they even roll and grunt to avoid sex if they are not interested.

In a study published Wednesday (Oct 11) in the journal Royal Society Open Science, the researchers have analysed the aggressive mating habits of some frogs.

They described female mate avoidance behaviours in the European common frog and observed three female avoidance behaviours, namely 'rotation', 'release call(s)' and tonic immobility (death feigning).

The scientists say that these behaviours were significantly associated with smaller female body size, and smaller females were more successful in escaping amplexus, which is the mating position of frogs and toads.

The study mentioned that European common frogs are known as "explosive" breeders that gather in their dozens to mate in ponds. Males outnumber females in most cases, which led to tough competition in a mating ball.

Carolin Dittrich, who is a researcher at the Natural History Museum in Berlin, told Live Science: "In some cases, the female might be killed inside these mating balls."

However, some are able to avoid it as females have developed several techniques to avoid mating, Dittrich said, further adding that "rather than being passive and helpless", females use the strategies to avoid males they don't want to mate with. Either they aren't ready to breed or do not want to mate with a certain male.

To carry out the study, the researchers collected male and female European common frogs from a pond during the breeding season.

They divided the frogs into two tanks, in a way each tank has two females and one male. After filming the frogs for an hour, they found that 83 per cent of them rolled onto their back in response to the 54 females that were grasped by a male.

Dittrich explained that this tactic apparently "puts the male underwater, so the male lets go to avoid drowning".

A third of females lay motionless with their limbs outstretched for around two minutes after being mounted by a male, the researchers found.

Dittrich said, "To us, it appears as if the female is playing dead, although we can't prove it's conscious behaviour. It could just be an automatic response to stress."

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Friday (Oct 13) dropped leaflets from planes into Gaza, calling on residents to urgently leave their homes and move south, images accessed by WION showed. Earlier, IDF issued an order to around 1.1 million Gazans to flee from the north of the Palestinian territory within 24 hours.

The flyer was in Arabic, loosely translated to English as: "The terrorist organisation waged a war against Israel. Gaza City has turned into a battlefield. You have to leave your homes immediately and head south of Wadi Gaza. For your safety: Don't return to your homes until further notice from the Israeli Defence Forces."

'Evacuate your homes': Israel army drops flyers, telling Gazans to flee 'immediately'

Space scientists are working day and night to expand the human presence in the solar system, especially on the Moon. But what if there's a way to bring part of the Moon here on Earth? Sounds interesting, and it may happen.

In Germany's proof-of-concept study, the researchers have said that it was found that solar energy could be harnessed to turn lunar dust to pave for landing pads and roads.

As quoted by media reports, Prof Jens Günster, who is from the Federal Institute of Materials Research and Testing in Berlin, said: "You might think: 'Streets on the moon, who needs that?'"

Günster, who is the co-author of a report, said: "But in fact, it's a kind of depressing demand [even] early on. It's very loose material, there's no atmosphere, gravity is weak, so the dust gets everywhere."

"It contaminates not only your equipment but other nations'. No one would be happy to be covered in dust from another rocket," Günster added.

The study said that to increase the sustainability of future lunar missions, in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU) techniques must be developed.

"At the end of the study, large samples (approximately 250 × 250 mm) with interlocking capabilities were fabricated by melting the lunar simulant with the laser directly on the powder bed," the study said.

The post read that "these are horrifying photos of babies murdered and burned by the Hamas monsters".

It also added that "Hamas is inhuman" and "Hamas is ISIS", referring to the Islamic State terror group.

Earlier, Netanyahu vowed to crush Hamas, urging the world to treat the Islamist militants the same way as the Islamic State group. He said, "Just as ISIS was crushed, so too will Hamas be crushed. And Hamas should be treated exactly the way ISIS was treated."

He also said that Israel will make sure that the militant group is completely destroyed. He said, "Every Hamas member is a dead man. We will crush them and destroy them as the world has destroyed Daesh."

Biden contradicted by White House on photos of babies

US President Joe Biden said he saw "confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children", appearing to corroborate reports of a deadly onslaught allegedly by Hamas militants who devastated Israel's Kibbutz Kfar Aza, located close to Gaza.

“It is important for Americans to see what is happening. I have been doing this for a long time. I never thought that I would see… have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children,” Biden said during remarks to US Jewish community leaders at a White House roundtable.

He added, "Downplaying Hamas’s atrocities and blaming the Jewish people is unthinkable."

However, his comments were later clarified by a White House spokesperson, who told the Washington Post that the US officials and Biden had not seen pictures or confirmed such reports independently.

Journo stands by report of beheadings of babies

The international war correspondent who initially broke the story of Hamas' alleged beheading of Israeli children is standing by her reporting.

Despite doubts circulating on social media, i24News reporter Nicole Zedeck strongly defended her account and said, "I wish that it wasn't true."

She had reported that on Tuesday, at a kibbutz near the Gaza border, 40 infants and young children were brutally murdered, with some decapitated.

During the Hamas attack, a total of 1,200 people were killed in Israel, according to the forces, mostly civilians.

In Gaza, officials reported more than 1,000 people killed in Israel's sustained campaign of air and artillery strikes on the crowded Palestinian enclave.

On Wednesday, Biden said that Israel should abide by the rules of war in its fight against Hamas. Biden told Netanyahu "It is really important that Israel -- (with) all the anger and frustration... that they operate by the rules of war".

We will crush them and destroy them as the world has destroyed Daesh." Disclaimer: WION cannot independently verify the authenticity of photos and videos shared on social media. Biden contradicted by White House on photos of babies US President Joe Biden said he saw "confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children", appearing to corroborate reports of a deadly onslaught allegedly by Hamas militants who devastated Israel's Kibbutz Kfar Aza, located close to Gaza. “It is important for Americans to see what is happening. I have been doing this for a long time. I never thought that I would see… have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children,” Biden said during remarks to US Jewish community leaders at a White House roundtable. He added, "Downplaying Hamas’s atrocities and blaming the Jewish people is unthinkable." However, his comments were later clarified by a White House spokesperson, who told the Washington Post that the US officials and Biden had not seen pictures or confirmed such reports independently. Journo stands by report of beheadings of babies The international war correspondent who initially broke the story of Hamas' alleged beheading of Israeli children is standing by her reporting. Despite doubts circulating on social media, i24News reporter Nicole Zedeck strongly defended her account and said, "I wish that it wasn't true." She had reported that on Tuesday, at a kibbutz near the Gaza border, 40 infants and young children were brutally murdered, with some decapitated. Watch: Palestinians have legitimate aspirations × Biden backs 'rules of war' During the Hamas attack, a total of 1,200 people were killed in Israel, according to the forces, mostly civilians. TRIGGER WARNING: Israel PM's X account shares photos of babies allegedly killed by Hamas

When the eruption of Mount Vesuvius reached Herculaneum in AD79, it was found that it buried the Roman town in ash and pumice and burned hundreds of antique scrolls in the library. The scrolls are like treasures for historians, who may now be able to decipher them, with the help of artificial intelligence.

Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano, located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy. It is about 9km east of Naples and a short distance from the shore.

From the charred remains of its eruption nearly 2,000 ago, researchers have taken the first word.

Prof Brent Seales, who is a computer scientist at the University of Kentucky, announced the discovery on Thursday (Oct 12).

Prof Seales among others had launched the Vesuvius challenge in March to push the reading of the texts. The challenge also offers cash prizes to researchers who successfully extract words from the burnt scrolls.

The experts have said that the Herculaneum scrolls are among the most iconic, but the manuscripts are damaged and inaccessible and so fragile that it's difficult to unroll.

Seales and his team, comprising staff and student researchers with the Digital Restoration Initiative, have spent more than two decades to find ways to rescue the scrolls.

As quoted by The Guardian, Stephen Parsons, who is a staff researcher on the digital restoration initiative at the university, said: "This is the first recovered text from one of these rolled-up, intact scrolls."
