<p>The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is gearing up for the first-ever launch of its new rocket - Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). Scheduled for 9:18am, Sunday, August 7th from India's Spaceport Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, the SSLV will place into orbit two satellites. While the primary passenger of this mission is EOS-02, a 135 kg Satellite, it will also carry a co-passenger, student-built 'AzaadiSAT'.</p>

<p>India's current operational rockets PSLV, GSLV and GSLV Mk3 had their maiden launches in 1993, 2001 and 2017, respectively. In comparison to SSLV, these rockets are much more complex and sophisticated, as they are powered by stages that carry solid fuels, liquid fuels and even cryogenic fuels (in the case of GSLV and GSLV Mk3). In contrast, the SSLV is a three-stage rocket that is powered by solid fuels alone, thus making it relatively simpler and faster to manufacture, assemble and launch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As final preparations are underway for the maiden SSLV launch, WION spoke to A. Rajarajan, Director of India's spaceport, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC).&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to him, the SSLV is a result of various important lessons that all ISRO centres have learnt over the last three decades, in terms of manufacturing, assembling and launching diverse vehicles such as PSLV, GSLV and GSLV Mk3. "We have ensured that the manufacturing and assembly process of SSLV have been kept as simple as possible. Getting the solid stages ready for PSLV and GSLV can take between 6 to 8 months, whereas this duration has been halved for SSLV. We get all the SSLV parts from Indian industry and carry out the casting process (solid fuel filling) at SDSC," he explained.</p>

<p>ISRO has introduced certain new processes and techniques into the SSLV manufacturing and assembly to ensure that the rocket can be prepared for launch in a week. "Usually, it takes a week to assemble a rocket motor, but it takes a single day for SSLV. We have used dry joints, instead of wet joints to ensure faster assembly of the rocket," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In terms of an all-solid stage vehicle like SSLV, he said that there is always a need to be extra cautious during assembly process, given that the fuel is filled months ahead of the launch, as opposed to liquid-fuel rocket stages where fuel is filled just a few hours prior to the launch. Despite being an all-solid stage rocket, SSLV uses a final liquid-fuel based Velocity Trimming Module (VTM) to make minor corrections and inject the satellites into precise orbit. The VTM is similar to the propulsion systems used on board satellites.</p>

<p>On the future possibilities with the SSLV rocket, Mr. Rajarajan said that it is a rocket that can completely be manufactured by Indian industry and that it is possible to have a number&nbsp;of launches per year. <p>Given the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka and the illegal attempts to flee the country via sea, it was mentioned that Australia is working in lockstep with the island nation. Recently, the Sri Lankan Navy has tirelessly disrupted maritime people smuggling ventures while Australia has safely returned 137 people from five irregular maritime ventures, attempting to reach Australian shores.</p>

<p>“Australia is committed to working closely with all partners in the region to combat maritime crime, especially the scourge of people smuggling, to prevent vulnerable people from being exploited by people smugglers who have no regard for their welfare.” Commander Rees said.</p>

<p>Coast Guard ship ICGS Abhiraj has been engaged in search operations since Monday evening and has also been joined by ICGS Aadesh from Tuesday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, a Coast Guard Dornier aircraft has also been deployed as part of the aerial search.&nbsp;</p>

"We also request our Indian embassy in Oman to escalate this matter to the Ministry of Labour in Oman to ensure that these eight fishermen are paid their salary dues" read the letter by K. Annamalai, State President, TN BJP.</p>

Indian external affairs ministry's help sought to save fishermen stranded in Oman

From the host city of Chennai being decked up to welcome the players, to having a popular bridge painted like a chess board, even an aircraft was painted with the Chess Olympiad Livery. However, a team of scuba divers from the host city has now taken Chess to never-seen-before depths.</p>

<p>You read that right. The team played chess on the seabed, 5kms away from the coast and at a depth of 18 metres. A seven-member team from the organisation Temple Adventures carried out this feat, to add to the buzz around chess and also create awareness about marine pollution and how it has impacted the ocean floor.</p>

This mobilisation of NDRF teams comes at a time when an extremely heavy rainfall warning has been issued for parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.</p>

<p>According to the 04 Battalion NDRF Arakkonam, teams have been deployed in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts of Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, two teams each have been deployed in Nilgiris district (hilly region) and Kanyakumari (coastal region), both of which are bordering Kerala.</p>

In recent years, ISRO has inaugurated a Launch Viewers Gallery at Sriharikota and the public will have the opportunity to witness it from there, based on <a href="https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp">prior registration</a> with ISRO.</p>

<p>SSLV&nbsp;is a rocket that is designed to orbit satellites weighing less than 500kg in Low Earth Orbit. Dr. Somanath had earlier told WION that&nbsp;SSLV&nbsp;was being conceptualized as a rocket that can be handed over to Indian industry for the entire manufacturing process and it can be put together for launch in a week's time. He had added that&nbsp;SSLV&nbsp;uses less-exotic materials in its manufacturing process to ensure that it is kept simple and easy to adopt by industry.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On its maiden launch, the SSLV's primary payload is said to be the&nbsp;142kg 'Miscrosat 2A' or 'EOS-2', which is meant to meet the increasing demand for cadastral mapping(demarcation of land parcel boundaries), urban and rural management, coastal land use etc. The satellite carries two payloads MWIR and LWIR, with the resolution of 6meters.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The team was led by&nbsp;Dr. S Selva Seetharaman, HOD &amp; Senior Consultant - Plastic, Aesthetic &amp; reconstructive Surgery, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai.</p>

<p dir="ltr">"Handling a case of hand transplants requires the highest levels of precision and medical expertise. With this case, we are happy to have recorded this rare feat of bilateral below elbow hand transplant in the state of Tamil Nadu," Dr. Selva said.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Speaking at the felicitation, Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu said that this case is a great example to motivate people to step forward and donate organs, especially hands of brain-dead patients and provide a good quality of life to the differently abled.&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">The transplant procedure was successfully carried out on 28th May 2022 and the patient is on the road to recovery, with intensive physiotherapy.&nbsp;</p>

Thereafter, he went to his residence in the Thrissur district along with his friends. After staying at home for more than four days, he is said to have fallen ill and was hospitalised on July 27th.</p>

<p>While being treated at the private hospital in Thrissur, his condition is said to have deteriorated rapidly, following which he was put on ventilator support, and he succumbed on July 30th. According to health authorities, the patient's family had revealed to the private hospital on July 30th that the patient was already monkey pox positive, as per a pre-travel test taken in the UAE. This has raised concerns, and a probe is underway to determine what caused the delay in sharing information in that regard.</p>

<p>A follow-up test of this patient that was conducted in India's National Institute of Virology(NIV) has also confirmed that he was indeed monkey pox positive. On Monday, Kerala's Health Minister Veena George confirmed that the NIV test result of the deceased person had also revealed monkeypox positive.&nbsp;<br />
