In the ascending order of how much payload can be delivered to Low-Earth Orbit (approx 500 km above the earth), ISRO's rockets can be classified thus: SSLV (500kg), PSLV (1750kg), GSLV (6000kg), LVM3 (8000kg).</p>

<p>There are orbits at higher altitudes than the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO). For placing a craft in higher orbits or transfer orbits, the rocket would have to be more powerful, use efficient propulsion systems and deliver more velocity to the satellite.</p>

<p>The Indian Coast Guard conducted a regional-level Pollution Response Exercise, validating and demonstrating the preparedness of various stakeholders in dealing with oil and chemical spills at sea. The Exercise was held between Tuesday (Nov 12) and Thursday (Nov 14) at Paradip, Odisha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Coronagraph is a device that can artificially block out the bright light of the sun, thereby enhancing the visibility of the faint corona. A solar eclipse, when the moon blocks out the sun, is a great natural opportunity to study the solar corona. But eclipses are rare and occur only for a few minutes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two Proba-3 satellites will be precisely aligned so that the Occulter spacecraft casts a shadow across the Coronagraph spacecraft, thereby enabling the visibility of the faint solar corona. The mass of the satellites is above the capability of ESA's Vega-C small rocket, while the large Ariane-6 rocket would be too costly for a mission of this kind. PSLV offers the perfect balance in terms of lift capability and cost. ESA will be paying around €30 million (approx Rs.271cr) to avail the launch services from ISRO's commercial arm NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).</p>

<p>On 26th November 2024, marking the 75th year of the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly, India will get a Constitution Museum that offers tributes to all 299 members of the Indian Constituent Assembly (the entity that drafted the Indian Constitution). The Museum, situated at the JGU Campus in Haryana, will feature sculptures, paintings, art forms, and panels, providing detailed information about every member of the Constituent Assembly, and their contributions to the Constitution.</p>

<p>The museum will also feature an interactive guide dubbed SAMVID - Smart Assistant for Museum Visitors and Interactive Displays, developed by IIT Madras and JGU.</p>

<p>Among the exhibits at the Museum would be the pieces from the original handcrafted document and artworks inspired by the Constitution. According to those working on setting up the Constitution Museum, the upcoming facility is aimed at promoting civic education among ordinary people, helping them understand and appreciate the history of the Constitution. It also aims at democratising access to the Constitution, which is perceived as confined to those in the legal profession.</p>

<p>MK Stalin, the chief minister of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has written to Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, highlighting the increasing frequency of arrests of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Sri Lankan Navy maintains that Indian fishing boats are poaching in Sri Lankan waters and that their Naval vessels conduct regular patrols and operations in their waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing boats, taking into account the impact of those practices on the livelihood of local fishermen.</p>

<p>Thus far this year, the Sri Lankan Navy says they have held 66 Indian fishing boats and 497 Indian fishermen in the island nation's waters.</p>

<p>The fishermen issue remains a sore point in India-Sri Lanka ties, with fishers from each side crossing over into the other's waters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is a longstanding and complex problem that involves fishing rights and territory in the narrow Palk Strait, the water body that separates the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the Northern part of the island nation Sri Lanka.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the letter, MK Stalin touched upon the two incidents from Sunday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 12, where a total of 35 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, and their four boats were taken into custody by Sri Lankan authorities. "These arrests not only disrupt their livelihoods but also cause immense distress to their families," he stated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Campaigning ahead of the country's parliamentary polls, &nbsp;President Anura Kumara Dissanayake accused Indian fishermen of destroying the marine resources belonging to the Tamil-populated northern region of the island nation.&nbsp;</p>

He assured that he would protect the rights of Sri Lankan fishermen, bring more jobs to the region, and support agriculture and fisheries. <p>Sri Lanka's Parliamentary polls are scheduled for this Thursday, 14th November. The President's political event conducted on Sunday in Jaffna city was his first in the region. Interestingly, Dissanayake's JVP party has not been one to support Tamil rights in the bygone decades.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, expectations are high from the young president, who has barely spent eight weeks in office.</p>

<p>WION has learnt that the twin satellites of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Proba-3 mission arrived at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (Indian Spaceport)&nbsp;in Sriharikota, Southern India, during the early hours of Wednesday, 6th November. Over the next four weeks, the spacecraft will undergo final assembly, integration and testing, ahead of its planned December 4th launch on the Indian PSLV rocket. In its 30&nbsp;years of operation, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle has launched more than 300 foreign-origin satellites, raking in millions for the commercial arm of the Indian space agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Proba-3 satellites were flown to the Chennai airport from Liege, Belgium, following which they were trucked to the spaceport at Sriharikota. European Space Agency's teams, present at the Indian spaceport, will now prepare the satellite for its planned launch on December 4th.</p>

<p>Originally, the satellites were meant to arrive in India on 21st October and then be readied for a launch by November-end. However, there had been a delay owing to administrative reasons at ESA. "Consequentially the launch date of November 30th will not be met. The new launch date has not been confirmed but the goal is to launch in December,” an ESA Spokesperson responded to WION's query.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is learnt that ISRO and ESA are now looking at launching PSLV-C59/Proba-3 on December 4th, if all goes well.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What makes Proba-3 unique</strong></h2>

<p>Proba stands for ‘PRoject for OnBoard Autonomy’.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Proba-3 is the world’s first precision formation flying mission. It consists of two small satellites launched together that will separate apart to fly in tandem, to prepare for future multi-satellite missions flying as one virtual structure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The solar corona (the outermost part of the sun's atmosphere) has many mysteries associated with it. The solar corona is a million degrees warmer than the surface of the sun, and it is the origin of coronal mass ejections (highly charged particles), which can affect the functioning of satellites or communication and power networks back on earth. There is immense scientific interest in better understanding the solar corona and related phenomena.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Coronagraph is a device that can artificially block out the bright light of the sun, thereby enhancing the visibility of the faint corona. A solar eclipse, when the moon blocks out the sun, is a great natural opportunity to study the solar corona. But eclipses are rare and occur only for a few minutes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two Proba-3 satellites will be precisely aligned so that the Occulter spacecraft casts a shadow across the Coronagraph spacecraft, thereby enabling the visibility of the faint solar corona. If the two are not perfectly aligned, then the bright disc of the Sun will not be hidden from the instrument, and the corona will be obscured by its bright light.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Why is Proba-3 being launched from India?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>India's PSLV-XL launcher was chosen to ferry Proba-3 satellites to space, as the European Space Agency (ESA) does not possess a medium-lift rocket that can launch the 550 kg Proba-3 satellites into the desired orbit. The mass of the satellites is above the capability of ESA's Vega-C small rocket, while the large Ariane-6 rocket would be too costly for a mission of this kind. PSLV offers the perfect balance in terms of lift capability and cost. ESA will be paying around € 30 million (approx Rs. 271 crore) to avail the launch services from ISRO's commercial arm NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).</p>

<p>India is currently harnessing only a fraction of the immense wind energy generation potential that it possesses. "We have the potential for 1100 Gigawatts (1 Gigawatt = billion watts) of wind energy generation, but are only generating 47 Gigawatts," said Lalit Bohra, joint secretary of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), quoting estimates from the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE). His remarks came during an address at Windergy 2024, India's premier wind energy trade fair and conference, supported by the MNRE.</p>

<p>Speaking at the event, he elaborated on the Indian government's ambitious goal of achieving 500 gigawatts of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuels (renewable energy and nuclear) by 2030. Of these 500 gigawatts that is meant to be generated from non-fossil fuels, wind energy is expected to contribute 100 gigawatts. <p>Eventually, the satellites that are travelling at around 28,000 kmph will precisely align themselves in a manner where they can perform a 'space handshake' and dock (mechanically attach themselves) to form a single orbiting entity. This experiment gains significance as docking is a major enabler of future missions such as Chandrayaan-4 and Bharatiya Antariksha Space Station (the proposed Indian Space Station).</p>

<p>Ananth Technologies Private Limited (ATL), completed the integration of two 400kg satellites for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and handed them over at ISRO's UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru, the facility meant for designing and developing satellites.&nbsp;</p>

<p>ISRO always builds their satellites at the URSC, but this is the first time that ISRO is getting their satellites completely assembled, integrated and tested by the Indian private industry at a private facility. This shift is enabled by the space sector reforms that grant greater opportunities to the Indian private sector.</p>

<p>Given that the satellites have been delivered to the URSC, they would soon be trucked to the Indian Spaceport at Sriharikota, from where they could be further tested, fuelled, and launched in the coming months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The six Next-Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) that are being built by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for the Indian Navy will be propelled by US-origin General Electric LM2500 marine engines.</p>

<p>The six NGMVs&nbsp;capable of maritime strike operations, anti-surface warfare operations, and sea denial for enemy ships at choke points&nbsp;are being built by the government-run Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL)&nbsp;at a cost of USD 1.16 billion (Rs 9,805 crore).</p>

<p>The facility in Kochi, Kerala, is to hand over the first of the six warships to the Indian Navy in early 2027. CSL had also built India's first and only indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The NGMVs are a new class of heavily armed warships incorporating stealth, high-speed, and offensive capability. The primary role of the ships would be to provide offensive capability against enemy warships, merchantmen, and land targets.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With a top speed of 35 knots (64 kmph), these vessels carry an array of anti-surface weapons.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For integration in the NGMVs, six LM2500 marine gas turbine engine kits will be delivered by GE Aerospace for assembly and testing by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine Division in Bengaluru, India.</p>

<p>Additionally, GE Aerospace will be supplying its composite base and enclosure, and full complement of gas turbine auxiliary systems. The LM2500 also propels the INS Vikrant, the Indian Navy's latest frigates, and over 700 vessels globally.</p>

<p>GE Aerospace and HAL, India’s premier public-sector aerospace company, have ties in both marine and aerospace defense dating back to 1986. HAL has assembled and tested all LM2500 gas turbines that are used on Indian warships.</p>

<p>In 2023, GE Aerospace and HAL signed an MOU to explore expanding their capabilities to include assembly, inspection, and testing (AIT) of the LM500 marine gas turbine To date, GE Aerospace has delivered 24 marine gas turbine kits to HAL for the Indian Navy.</p>

For various Programs of the Indian Navy, HAL has partnered with GE Aerospace on the LM2500 Gas Turbine Engine.
