Kluge informed that "up to half of those who have died from COVID-19 were residents in long-term care facilities", while describing the situation as "deeply concerning".

Kluge asserted that there was "an immediate and urgent need to rethink and adjust how long-term care facilities operate."

"Even among very old people who are frail and live with multiple chronic conditions, many have a good chance of recovery if they are well-cared for," he added.

Meanwhile, &nbsp;WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan said leaving the elderly population islated was a difficult thing to manage.

"These are trade-offs that are very difficult to manage," Ryan said.

"There are many, many older people living in long-term care facilities who at the best of times are lonely, and the last number of weeks has been a terrible ordeal for them, both to be further isolated but also with the constant threat of potentially becoming sick with this disease," Ryan stressed.

Europe has been the hardest hit due to the virus with Italy, Spain, France and Germany reporting high casulties with over 45,000 casautlites majority of them have been the elderly.

While it is believed that pasta was inspired by Chinese noodles brought to Europe by Venetian nobleman and merchant&nbsp;Marco Polo in the 13th century, food historians are set to prove it wrong.

While Marco Polo did bring a lot of Chinese culture to Europe after spending several years in China, Italian food critics believe that pasta was not brought by him. The historians say pasta culture was already flourishing in the Mediterranean region centuries before he travelled east.

Giorgio Franchetti, a food historian and scholar of ancient Roman history, dismissed this theory by calling it pure nonsense. "The noodles that Marco Polo maybe brought back with him at the end of the 1200s from China were essentially made with rice and based on a different, oriental culinary tradition that has nothing to do with ours."

“Between 1000BC and 800BC, the Greeks first mentioned the existence of laganon, a flat pasta sheet sliced into irregular strips that was later adopted by the ancient Romans with the plural name of laganae. It was used in soups of leek and chickpeas, a very popular Roman dish,” he added.

The food historians mentioned that&nbsp;the Roman strips of pasta were similar to a particular type of pasta Called maltagliati, which is still served in Italy.

Talking about the difference between noodles and pasta,&nbsp;Anna Maria Pellegrino, a food historian and a member of the Italian Academy of Cuisine, said, "“They reflect two separate culinary cultures and identities that have developed in parallel, the only conjunction being the need for nourishment and, above all, to share around the same table feelings and everyday life events.&nbsp;The way they are cooked, the pots, the types of cereals used, the preparation, ingredients and toppings are completely different and specific to each civilisation. There’s no direct link between the Asian and the Italian or Mediterranean ways of mixing cereals with water to create noodles or pasta."

Talking about how the&nbsp;philosopher and statesman Cicero was a pasta enthusiast, Franchetti says&nbsp;says it remains unclear whether his stomach pains were due to eating too much laganae or to health problems.

Franchetti also pointed out that Roman poets and philosophers often wrote of their love for in laganae. Horace, in one of the pieces in his famed collection of poems, Satires, writes that he cannot wait to get home to enjoy a bowl of leeks, chickpeas and laganae.

“Back in the [ancient] Roman times, laganae was a daily meal in each household, a very democratic, simple but highly nutritious dish for the poor and the working classes, not the wealthy,” she says. “It was the main comfort food, just like pasta is today for Italians,” said&nbsp;Cristina Conte, an “archaeo-chef”.

"Our endeavours have been receiving huge support from provincial governments," said Binod Chaudhary.

The local government has also increased&nbsp;its border security put a stop on the&nbsp;cross border transmission of the coronavirus. Several temporary security posts have been installed and thousands of police personnel have been mobilised to halt trans-border movement of people, according to officials.

"In order to protect our great American workers, I've just signed an executive order temporarily suspending immigration into the United States. This will ensure that unemployed Americans of all backgrounds will be first in line for jobs as our economy reopens," Trump said.

The suspension meant for sixty days denies people applying for green cards or permanent residency although seasonal workers in the farm sector will be allowed to go ahead.

With over 22 million Americans declaring unemployment, Trump's order said the United States faces a potentially protracted economic recovery with "persistently high unemployment".

Trump tweeted the order was "fully signed and ready to go!" even as critics doubted his larger plan of stopping immigrants into the country which has been the president's election campaign rhetoric since 2016, heading into polls this year.

Amid the coronavirus crisis, Trump said it was still "it's too soon" for those businesses to resume operations after Republican governors Brian Kemp, governor of the southern state of Georgia, and Florida's Ron DeSantis announced easing of restrictions.

"I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the Phase One guidelines" for reopening issued last week.

"I respect him and I will let him make his decision. Would I do that? No. I'd keep them (closed) a little bit longer. I want to protect people's lives," Trump said.

The Trump administration has asserted that there should be 14 days of declining infection numbers before a reopening is announced.

Sind on Thursday reported 298 new cases and four more deaths due to the virus as the provincial government opened testing lab facility. Balochistan reported two deaths due to the virus while the government said that 181 people have recovered in the past 24 hours in the country.

Meanwhile, Pakistan PM Imran Khan said that "indefinite lockdown" was not an option while asserting that the speed of the virus has been unprecedented.

The country's capital Islamabad also reported new cases with 10 patients being infected with the virus in the past 24 hours.

As the number of cases crossed the 10,000 mark, Dr Zafar Mirza asked citizens to do "self-accountability" while warning that the days ahead would be "challenging".

As the virus continued to spread domestically, Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said over 46,000 stranded citizens had registered themselves to be repatriated.
