After days of search and rescue missions for the missing Titan submersible, it comes to a tragic end, with all five passengers on board declared dead. Contact with the Titan submersible was lost 1 hour 45 minutes into its dive on Sunday afternoon, as per the US Coast Guard.

The submersible that went missing was owned by OceanGate Expeditions, which is a privately held company that provides crewed submersible assets and expertise for commercial, research and military expeditions.

What is Titan submersible and what can it do?

The Titan, owned by OceanGate is a research and survey submersible that can carry up to five people, usually a pilot and four ‘mission specialists’ – archaeologists, marine biologists or anyone who can afford the experience as a tourist.

According to the official website of OceanGate, Titan is made of “titanium and filament wound carbon fibre”. It can go up to depths of 4000 metres (13,123 feet) for site survey and inspection, research and data collection, film and media production, and deep sea testing of hardware and software.

The Titan submersible is 6.7 metres long and weighs 10,432 kg, which is equivalent to about six average-size cars, as per operator OceanGate. It uses four electric thrusters to move around and has a battery of cameras, lights and scanners to explore its environment. OceanGate says Titan’s viewport is “the largest of any deep diving submersible” and that its technology provides an “unrivalled view” of the deep ocean.

OceanGate tweeted last week: “Without any cell towers in the middle of the ocean, we are relying on @Starlink to provide the communications we require throughout this year’s 2023 Titanic expedition.”

Apart from these features, it also has a 96-hour bottled oxygen supply. However, that limit would be affected by the breathing rate of those inside the craft, especially if there are tourists with limited diving experience.

What is the Titanic Expedition of OceanGate?

OceanGate’s Titanic expedition is a crewed mission to the historic Titanic site where the massive scale wreck and debris of Titanic can be found. The annual expedition aims to collect images, videos, laser, and sonar data of the wreck that will allow objective assessment of the rate of decay and documentation of the process.

Location of expedition: Approximately 380 nautical miles south of Newfoundland

Maximum depth of expedition: 3,800 metres (12,800 feet)

The wreckage of the Titanic, which lies about 3,800 metres (12,500ft) down on the ocean floor is surrounded by debris from the disaster more than a century ago.

What is the difference between a submersible and a submarine?

Titan that went missing on Sunday was a submersible, not a submarine. As per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a submarine can launch itself into the ocean from a port independently, while a submersible does not have the power to get to the port, the bottom of the sea, and back.

Instead, submersibles are launched from support ships, which take the submersible to the site where the vessel will deep dive, similar to how a boat deposits a scuba diver into an area of the ocean to explore.

When and where did the Titan go missing?

The Titan began its journey on Sunday morning and its support vessel, the Polar Prince lost contact with it about an hour and 45 minutes later.

The Titan was launched from the Polar Prince, an icebreaker hired by OceanGate that ferries people and the submersible craft to the North Atlantic wreck site where multiple dives have been conducted.

What happened to the Titanic submersible?

The five people on board the missing submersible were presumed dead on Thursday. As per a report in the BBC, Rear Adm Mauger of the Coast Guard confirmed that all five people aboard Titan were killed following what was probably a "catastrophic implosion", based on patterns of debris discovered.

PM Modi’s Gifts to US First Lady Jill Biden

On his first state visit to the US, PM Narendra Modi presented various gifts to President Joe Biden and US First Lady Jill Biden at an intimate dinner on Wednesday.

PM Modi gifted a lab-grown 7.5-carat green diamond to US First Lady Jill Biden. The diamond reflects earth-mined diamonds’ chemical and optical properties.

The diamond is sculpted with precision and care using cutting-edge technology. It is an eco-friendly diamond which emits only 0.028 grammes of carbon per carat.

This green diamond is certified by the Gemological lab, IGI and it nears the hallmarks of excellence through the 4C’s — cut, colours, carat and clarity.

The papier mache involves sakhsazi or meticulous preparation of paper pulp and naqqashi, where skilled artisans from Kashmir paint elaborate designs.

Australia’s internet safety watchdog has given Twitter an ultimatum of 28 days to clean up “toxicity and hate” on its platform, threatening to fine the company if it fails to comply. The watchdog has issued a legal notice to Twitter demanding an explanation of what the social media giant is doing to tackle the surge in online hate since Elon Musk took over the platform.

In the past few months, since Elon Musk became the new chairman of Twitter, Australia has complained most about the micro-blogging site for turning a blind eye to online hate over the platform. The eSafety Commission has been the most vocal firm against Twitter’s policies.

The agency, which describes itself as the world’s first government agency dedicated to keeping people safer online, said Thursday that it received more complaints about Twitter in the past 12 months than any other platform and received an increasing number of reports of serious online abuse since Musk took over the company in October last year.

Twitter has 28 days to respond

The eSafety Commission’s boss, Julie Inman Grant, said she sent a notice to Twitter on Wednesday with 36 detailed questions on how the platform’s policies about hateful conduct are enforced.

If Twitter does not respond with factual and truthful responses to all questions within 28 days, an Australian judge could fine the company up to 700,000 Australian dollars ($476,000) for every day of delay, said Inman Grant.

“The whole idea of the basic online safety expectations is that global companies like Twitter are enforcing their own policies … and that they’ve got people and technology to keep their platforms safe,” Inman Grant said.

This is not the first time that Inman Grant has lashed out at Twitter publicly. She wrote to Musk in November last year, expressing fears that the deep staff cuts would leave the company unable to meet Australian laws.

International Day of Yoga: 7 Stress-relieving Yogasanas

Sukhasana helps in lengthening the spine and helps to calm you down by eliminating anxiety. It also reduces mental and physical exhaustion.

This is beneficial for both lymphatic and nervous systems. It not just helps in releasing stress but also provides relief from neck and back pain.

This asana stretches the spine, hamstrings and lower back. Apart from relieving stress, this pose eases the symptoms of Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and improves digestion.

Paschimottanasana (Seated forward bend)

This asana calms down the mind, promotes calmness and balances the nervous system. It also helps in reducing fatigue and insomnia.

It’s an intricate pose that allows you to squeeze out the tension in your body and focus on your balance, thereby helping to alleviate stress and improve your concentration.

This is a full-body stretch that helps relieve stress and reduces anxiety. It stretches the lower body areas such as the knees, thighs, and ankles.

Utthita Trikonasana (Extended triangle)

This pose promotes a sense of physical and emotional grounding, puts the whole body at ease, and leads to total relaxation.

A super-rich American family is willing to offer a whopping $127,000 per year for an ‘attentive’ dog nanny to take care of their dogs. The billionaire family released a long job advertisement online for a full-time dog nanny for “exceptional and highly experienced” work. They expect the person to provide “unparalleled care and attention” to their two large dogs.

The full-time nanny has to fulfil all the job requirements, including that he/she has to stay with the family in Knightsbridge, Central London, but would get to jet off with the pampered pets whenever the family travels.

The unique advertisement claimed they would need to organise playdates with other dogs, food supplies, vet appointments and keep detailed records of their health.

Requirements to become a dog-nanny

The applicant needs to be a perfect pet parent along with the knowledge of dog nutrition so they can develop a ‘personalised exercise regime’ and play with the pampered dogs.

The nanny would also need to “drop everything” and “leave their private lives on the back burner” to put the dogs’ well-being first.

The successful applicant is also expected to arrange “stringent security measures” to keep the dogs safe in what is described as a “high-profile environment”, suggesting the owners could be celebrities or figures in the public eye.

Apart from all these requirements, the job comes with six weeks of vacation a year, but it is not always guaranteed.

Job advertisement already has 400 applicants

According to recruiter George Dunn, this is the first time ever that the agency has posted a dog-nanny job. Since they posted this job advertisement, the post has already seen nearly 400 potential candidates.

“This is the first role we’ve offered of its kind. The salary connected to it is pretty unheard of,” Dunn told Kennedy News.

“Even as a vet, you’d be struggling to earn that amount of money.”

Dunn also revealed that "everyone is suddenly a dog nanny. The perfect person would be not too big of a character, and be good at blending into the background, then popping out when required."

"The clients are billionaires looking for best-in-class service, so when it comes to their dogs, they're happy to pay. This is the first role we've offered of its kind."

Dunn though declined to comment on the breed of the dogs and the identity of the family.

In recent years, crime thrillers, specifically crime stories based on real-life incidents have become more popular on streaming platforms. Many of us binge-watch shows like Dahmer, Making of a Murderer or Indian Predator, which is normal as long as you are watching them out of curious nature. But watching these shows to unwind can be a major red flag, reveals one psychologist.

Dr Thema Bryant appeared on The Mel Robbins Podcast and talked about how people can reconnect and heal after experiencing hardship.

Speaking to host Robbins, she revealed that those who watch and listen to violent media may do so because the trauma is familiar to them.

She said, “If your idea of relaxing before you go to sleep is to watch three episodes of Law and Order, [then] I would encourage you to think about ‘why is trauma relaxing to me?’”.

"That's what it is. Harm, crime, violation, attacks, and that's what is going to soothe me into my bedtime."

Dr Bryant explained that some people find this content “normal and familiar.”

She continued, “Some of us grew up in high stress, so people mistake peace for boring. To come home to yourself you have to lean into the discomfort because it’s gonna feel unfamiliar.”

How netizens reacted on psychologist’s observation

Many people agreed with Dr Bryant’s analysis and opened up about why they enjoy true crime documentaries. One person commented on the podcast,” It distracts me from the pain I’m feeling in my life. I don’t like it, it just redirects my anger.”

Another said, “The trauma isn’t relaxing to me – it’s the justice the characters or real people often get that I never did in my own life.”

A third wrote, “Wow that is exactly what I watch to relax. This was so enlightening.”

Dahmer is among the most-watched series on Netflix

In Netflix’s list of top 10 most-watched series, Dahmer ranks third. It has been watched for 856,220,000 hours on the platform. Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a limited series about one of the most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer.

Dahmer received mixed reviews but was a commercial success, reaching the number-one spot on Netflix in the first week of its release. It became Netflix's second most-watched English-language series of all time within 28 days, and the third Netflix series to pass 1 billion views in 60 days.
