Best of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible Movies, Ranked

The latest Mission: Impossible movie, Dead Reckoning Part One is around the corner, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt.

Here is our editor's ranking of the movies in the franchise based on critical reception and online reviews.

The most recent Mission: Impossible movie, Fallout, is by far the best one yet as per critics. Fallout is praised as one of the greatest action movies ever made.

This movie is a feast for the eyes with all its action sequences. There are some huge, explosive moments in Ghost Protocol, from a chase through a sandstorm to the destruction of the Kremlin.

Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol (2011)

The movie gets off to a jaw-dropping start with one of the most breathtaking stunts in the entire franchise. After failing to extract some cargo the easy way, Ethan Hunt clings to the side of a plane during take-off.

Mission: Impossible III is frenetic and chaotic, with the plot seeing Ethan Hunt working with a new team to take down a dangerous arms dealer named Owen Davian.

The great Brian De Palma started the franchise off with the first Mission: Impossible movie. It has some truly iconic moments like Hunt dangling from wires to avoid the sensors on the floor of a highly secure vault.

A 29-year-old skydiver from Australia reportedly died in Texas while testing a new method of the sport called ‘swooping’. The champion skydiver from Perth, Melissa Porter was an instructor at Skydive Spaceland Houston. She was attempting the new high-risk method that eventually led to a hard landing, due to which she fell into shallow water, as per ABC 13 Houston. As per witnesses, Melissa’s parachute deployed during the “advanced landing manoeuvre”. As per the Australian media company, news.com.au, the parachute was too close to the ground. Melissa was declared dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Chandrayaan-3: What You Should Know about India's Moon Mission

The primary aim of this mission is to achieve a successful landing of the lander on the moon's surface, followed by the deployment of a rover to carry out a range of experiments.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch Chandrayaan-3 on either July 12 or July 14 at 2:30 pm local time.

The rocket assembly for Chandrayaan-3 has been completed with only the final rounds of tests left for ISRO to pace through, officials said on Sunday.

The third lunar mission of India has been allocated a budget of Rs 615 crore ($82 million)

The lunar spacecraft will be onboard the Lauch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-III) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

It consists of an indigenous lander module, a propulsion module and a rover, which is aimed at demonstrating new technologies for interplanetary missions.

The current lander will have the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the rover, which will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface.

July Supermoon tonight: Here's how and when you can witness the lunar event

<p>The twists and turns in west Indian state Maharashtra's politics over the last four to five years has not been short of any movie plot. The political drama reached its zenith when the National Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy chief minister for the fifth time on Sunday (July 2).&nbsp;</p>

<p>This power scuffle has been going on in the state for the last three years. The last time Maharashtra politics took a steep turn was in November 2019, when Ajit’s underhand partnership with the BJP lasted a few days. On 23 November 2019, Pawar was sworn in as deputy chief minister with BJP, without NCP’s nod. He submitted papers with the signatures of NCP MLAs to the Governor of the State. He was on the post for less than 80 hours.</p>

<p>Also Read |&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/lost-for-a-century-blind-indian-painters-scroll-resurfaces-after-100-years-611230">Lost for a century: Blind Indian painter's scroll resurfaces after 100 years</a></p>

<p>But this time, Pawar went full throttle against party lines with the support of over 40 of the NCP’s 53 MLAs. He chose to split the party even as his uncle and NCP leader Sharad Pawar was busy getting all opposition parties together to take on the BJP.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>‘Triple engine’ Government?</strong></h2>

<p>Welcoming Ajit Pawar into the fold, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "Now we have 1 chief minister and 2 deputy chief ministers. The double-engine government has now become triple engine. For the development of Maharashtra, I welcome Ajit Pawar and his leaders. Ajit Pawar's experience will help."</p>

<p>Shinde recently completed one year in office. He said that the parties in the government were united on the platform of state development. “Ajit Dada supported our development goals. During the previous Lok Sabha elections, NCP secured four-five seats, but it appears that they won’t get a single seat in the coming elections,” he remarked.</p>

<h2><strong>Ajit Pawar and the 'Brutus' moment in Maharashtra's NCP</strong></h2>

<p>Ajit Pawar, an influential leader in the NCP, is the nephew of the party’s supremo Sharad Pawar. He joined politics in 1982 when he was elected to the board of a cooperative sugar factory. He was then elected as a chairman of the Pune District Cooperative Bank (PDC) in 1991 and remained in the post for 16 years. During this period, he was also elected as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from the Baramati constituency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later on, Pawar vacated his Lok Sabha seat in favour of his uncle, Sharad Pawar, who had then become the defence minister in PV Narasimha Rao’s government. Later, he was elected as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Baramati Assembly Constituency.</p>

<p>Pawar became the deputy CM in November 2010 for the first time after thwarting his uncle’s plan to give the position to the party’s senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal again. In a surprise move, he resigned in September 2012, following allegations against him in an irrigation scam, but came back within three months after obtaining a “clean chit” for himself from the then Congress-NCP government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite being in several controversies, the seven-time MLA is popular among legislators. He is considered an expert in electoral management and has groomed many MLAs and even helped them to get elected. Even after the debut of Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule into politics, he was regarded as number two in the party.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pawar’s intention of taking over the party was no secret. It came out into the open when he tried to silence leaders and workers who were persuading Sharad Pawar to take back his resignation as party chief on May 2.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Ajit Pawar and MVA</strong></h2>

The twists and turns in west Indian state Maharashtra's politics over the last four to five years has not been short of any movie plot. The political drama reached its zenith when the National Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy chief minister for the fifth time on Sunday (July 2). This power scuffle has been going on in the state for the last three years. He was on the post for less than 80 hours. He chose to split the party even as his uncle and NCP leader Sharad Pawar was busy getting all opposition parties together to take on the BJP. ‘Triple engine’ Government? Welcoming Ajit Pawar into the fold, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "Now we have 1 chief minister and 2 deputy chief ministers. The double-engine government has now become triple engine. For the development of Maharashtra, I welcome Ajit Pawar and his leaders. Ajit Pawar's experience will help." Shinde recently completed one year in office. He said that the parties in the government were united on the platform of state development. “Ajit Dada supported our development goals. During the previous Lok Sabha elections, NCP secured four-five seats, but it appears that they won’t get a single seat in the coming elections,” he remarked. Ajit Pawar and the 'Brutus' moment in Maharashtra's NCP Ajit Pawar, an influential leader in the NCP, is the nephew of the party’s supremo Sharad Pawar. He joined politics in 1982 when he was elected to the board of a cooperative sugar factory. He was then elected as a chairman of the Pune District Cooperative Bank (PDC) in 1991 and remained in the post for 16 years. During this period, he was also elected as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from the Baramati constituency. Later, he was elected as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Baramati Assembly Constituency. Pawar became the deputy CM in November 2010 for the first time after thwarting his uncle’s plan to give the position to the party’s senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal again. In a surprise move, he resigned in September 2012, following allegations against him in an irrigation scam, but came back within three months after obtaining a “clean chit” for himself from the then Congress-NCP government. Despite being in several controversies, the seven-time MLA is popular among legislators. He is considered an expert in electoral management and has groomed many MLAs and even helped them to get elected. Even after the debut of Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule into politics, he was regarded as number two in the party. It came out into the open when he tried to silence leaders and workers who were persuading Sharad Pawar to take back his resignation as party chief on May 2.
