Europa Clipper Launch: NASA’s Europa Clipper mission is set to launch today, October 14, in a quest for humans to discover the possibility of extra-terrestrial life outside Earth. The mission will explore Europa, a mysterious moon orbiting the distant planet Jupiter.

In a few hours, NASA’s flagship Europa Clipper spacecraft will blast off from Florida to search for signs of alien life, as we humans call it.

NASA hoped to launch the mission on October 10 originally, but due to Hurricane Milton last week, the launch of Europa Clipper was halted. This is one of the greatest missions by humans on Earth to better understand the habitability outside our planet. Europa is located 628 km from Earth and is just a bit bigger than our moon.

"Clipper is the first NASA spacecraft dedicated to studying an ocean world beyond Earth," NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free told reporters in a briefing on Sunday evening (Oct 13).

The spaceship is the largest ever built to visit a planet and has a long journey ahead. Travelling 1.8 billion miles, it will orbit both the Earth and Mars to propel itself further towards Jupiter in the sling-shot effect.

Both NASA and SpaceX will be involved in the launch of the Europa Clipper spacecraft toward Jupiter’s moon Europa on Oct 14 (Monday). It is a 5 billion dollar one-of-a-kind flagship mission to the icy moon of Jupiter. There is a 95 per cent chance of good weather at launch time, unlike the last time when blast-off was affected by Hurricane Milton, Space Force officials said.

About Europa

Europa’s most dominant feature, that distinguishes it from our Moon, is its vast salty ocean contained under a thick ice crust, which sometimes escapes through vast water plumes. Its icy crust is up to 25 km thick with certain chemicals that may be the building blocks for life on the moon.

Mission objectives

Scientists are aiming that the instrument on NASA’s Clipper spacecraft will map the entire moon, will also collect dust particles and fly through the water plumes. The spacecraft should fly past Europa about 50 times, and each time, it will be blasted with radiation equivalent to one million X-rays.

5 Natural Ways to Increase Collagen in Skin

Citrus foods are high in vitamin C, which is essential for collagen synthesis. Green leafy vegetables contain chlorophyll, which may increase collagen production. Garlic also supports collagen production.

Collagen is made up of amino acids, so consuming protein-rich foods like chicken, fish, eggs, and legumes provides the building blocks your body needs to produce collagen.

Aloe vera can stimulate collagen production when applied topically. It contains compounds that help repair skin and increase collagen naturally.

Vitamin C is critical for the formation of collagen. You can boost your intake through foods like kiwi, bell peppers, broccoli, and strawberries, or by applying topical products that contain vitamin C.

Proper hydration helps maintain skin elasticity, which indirectly supports collagen health. Drink plenty of water and consider eating water-rich foods like cucumbers, melons, and celery.

Tesla chief Elon Musk is set to launch a prototype of his long-awaited pet project of robotaxi, the Cybercab. The event will take place on Thursday (Oct 10) at the Warner Bros Studios in Burbank.

Self-driving cars are something that Musk has long dreamed about. When the world is moving towards low-cost electric vehicles (EVs), Musk has made a series of ambitious predictions about self-driving taxis—like they will save lives or earn their owner's money by being rented out for rides or even overnight stays.

Musk will make an elaborate launch of his dream project at Tesla’s “We Robot” event. Interestingly, this comes after the event was cancelled on its original due date for release in August, leading to doubts from thinkers and analysts that his project is still not prepared well. Hence, Musk’s Thursday event will also quell a lot of doubts about delivering on his ambitious project.

The concept of robotaxis is not new, the car rival of Tesla, Waymo (owned by Alphabet) has already unveiled their model of self-driving taxis and some even operate on US roads. But when it comes to Cybercab, little is known so far.

According to various reports, it will have two seats and butterfly wings. It is thought it will use a combination of cameras and computing power to navigate the roads, as opposed to laser-based sensors, known as Lidar, favoured by rivals.

In the past, driverless cars have been in the news for all the wrong reasons after a pedestrian was knocked down by one such car. Despite such setbacks, this sector continues to grow. Waymo said in early October it would add the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to its robotaxi fleet after the vehicles undergo on-road testing with the company's technology.

However, now the event will be live-streamed on X at 19:00 Pacific Time in the US on Thursday, or approximately 03:00 in the UK on Friday morning. Robotaxis: How will they look like? The concept of robotaxis is not new, the car rival of Tesla, Waymo (owned by Alphabet) has already unveiled their model of self-driving taxis and some even operate on US roads. But when it comes to Cybercab, little is known so far. According to various reports, it will have two seats and butterfly wings. It is thought it will use a combination of cameras and computing power to navigate the roads, as opposed to laser-based sensors, known as Lidar, favoured by rivals. World Wildlife Fund (WWF)’s Living Planet Report released Thursday (Oct 10) emphasised India’s food consumption pattern as the most sustainable among the big economies (G20 countries). The report also mentioned that if the world follows India’s pattern it would be least damaging to Earth to support food production by 2050.

The report put Argentina, Australia and the US’s food consumption patterns in the worst category and opined that it can lead to exceeding the global warming limit.

"If everyone in the world adopted the current food consumption patterns of the world’s major economies by 2050, we exceed the 1.5° Celsius climate (warming limit) target for food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 263 per cent and require one to seven Earths to support us," the report says, and also made a special mention of India's Millet Mission.

According to the paper, if all countries follow India's current consumption patterns, the globe will require "less than one planet" (0.84) to support food production by 2050. The Indian scenario is even somewhat better than the planetary climate boundary for food, which is the greatest amount of greenhouse gas emissions that food systems can generate to keep under 1.5° Celsius of the warming limit.

According to the report, the world will require 7.4 more Earths to match the food production if it follows Argentina’s consumption tendencies. Argentina has the weakest pattern in terms of food production sustainability, followed by Australia, the United States, Brazil, France, Italy, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Among the best food consumption patterns, India is the best-performing country, followed by Indonesia, China, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The report reiterates that this ancient grain is not only beneficial for health but also a very resilient nutri-cereal in the face of climate change.

"Eating more sustainable diets would reduce the amount of land needed to produce food: grazing land, in particular, could be freed up for other purposes, including nature restoration and carbon sequestration," according to the study.

Makhana vs Peanut: Which is the Ultimate Snack for Weight Loss?

Both makhana (fox nuts) and peanuts can be healthy snacks, but they differ in terms of their benefits for weight loss.

Makhana is low in calories compared to peanuts, making it a great snack option for those trying to lose weight. 100 grams of makhana contains approx. 350 calories. Peanuts are calorie-dense, with about 567 calories per 100 grams.

Makhana is very low in fat, with about 0.5-2% fat content. This makes it a lighter snack. Peanuts are high in healthy fats, which are beneficial but can add more calories to your diet.

Makhana has moderate protein content, about 9-10 grams per 100 grams. Peanuts are rich in protein, offering around 25 grams of protein per 100 grams, making them more satiating for longer periods.

Makhana is rich in fibre, which helps keep you full for longer and aids digestion. Peanuts contain fibre as well, which can help with satiety and digestion.

Due to its low calorie and fat content, and high fibre, makhana is an excellent snack for weight loss. Although peanuts can help with satiety, due to their high-calorie density, portion control is crucial if you're trying to lose weight.
