In the letter to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka, Bhushan emphasised that the pandemic will not be over in the near future and hence, controlling the spread of the virus is important.

With a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases, scientists stated that the variant “XBB.1.16” is responsible for an increase in cases. However, they added that vaccination and natural infection have helped people develop hybrid immunity in India.

Hence, the present surge in coronavirus cases due to the variant XBB.1.16 will not overwhelm hospitals and lead to a critical situation as the infection is mild in nature.

However, people have been advised by the government to wear masks, adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and complete their pending vaccination doses, if any.&nbsp;

Japan's ruling party clinches four of five seats in by-elections

The EU Environmental Agency (EEA) on Monday said that more than 1,200 premature deaths are recorded every year of those aged under 18 across Europe due to air pollution. It added that pollution is also increasing the risk of these youngsters contracting chronic diseases in later stages of their lives.

Even after improvements made recently, the level of key air pollutants in many European countries "remain stubbornly above" World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, especially in central-eastern Europe and Italy, stated the EEA after carrying out a study in almost 30 countries, which includes 27 members of the European Union.

The report did not include the major industrial nations like the United Kingdom, Ukraine and Russia, suggesting that the continent's overall death tolls could be higher.

Last November, the EEA said that 238,000 people died prematurely due to air pollution in 2020. The death toll includes those in the EU as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.

"Air pollution causes over 1,200 premature deaths per year in people under the age of 18 in Europe and significantly increases the risk of disease later in life," the agency stated.

This was the first study conducted by the agency which focused specifically on children.

"Although the number of premature deaths in this age group is low relative to the total for the European population estimated by EEA each year, deaths early in life represent a loss of future potential and come with a significant burden of chronic illness, both in childhood and later in life," said the agency.

The agency appealed to the authorities to focus on the improvisation of air quality around nurseries, sports facilities, schools and mass transport hubs.

"After birth, ambient air pollution increases the risk of several health problems, including asthma, reduced lung function, respiratory infections and allergies," noted the report.

<h2>Seven million children die annually</h2>

The EU Environmental Agency (EEA) on Monday said that more than 1,200 premature deaths are recorded every year of those aged under 18 across Europe due to air pollution.

ALSO READ | Air pollution speeds up bone loss in postmenopausal women, says study The report did not include the major industrial nations like the United Kingdom, Ukraine and Russia, suggesting that the continent's overall death tolls could be higher. Amid Pakistan's failure to enforce minimum wage laws at a time when the South Asian country is reeling under the high inflation, an estimated 80 per cent of unskilled workers are not receiving the minimum wage, Pakistan-based The Express Tribune reported.

According to Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) Executive Director Karamat Ali in an interview with The Express Tribune, 80 per cent of unskilled workers do not receive the minimum wage, and historically high inflation has made people's suffering worse.

The level of inflation in March was 35.4 per cent, which had a major impact on purchasing power. An estimated 80 per cent of unskilled workers are not receiving the minimum wage of Rs25,000 ($89.25) per month, which was awarded ten months ago.

Furthermore, a recent World Bank report found that 83 per cent of households in Pakistan are not receiving the minimum $2 a day needed to sustain basic needs, PILER said according to The Express Tribune.

While the Punjab government recently announced an increase in the minimum wage to Rs32,000 ($114.24) a month, Ali said there is no mechanism to ensure the implementation of the government order or to check which industrial and commercial houses are paying their employees what.

He predicted that each worker should receive at least Rs50,000 ($178.49) per month to cover the costs of necessities including food, clean drinking water, education, and healthcare.

Ali continued by saying that the ongoing economic crisis has caused a rise in unemployment in Pakistan, with estimates putting the number of jobless at five million. In Pakistan, the rising rate of unemployment and denial of basic rights is now causing people to become violent, and there is also a surge in the rise of street crime and theft.

A 24-year-old Indian student, who was studying B.SC, committed suicide by bursting a firecracker inside his mouth on Sunday.

“Deceased Prajapati took the extreme step as he was tense over some issues,” said a police official who was quoted as saying by the Indian news agency PTI.

"Prajapati burst a 'sutli' bomb cracker in his mouth when he was in the toilet at around 9 am. After hearing the sound, his family members rushed in. They shifted him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead," the police official added.

The police registered a case of suicide and further investigation into the incident is being carried out. The student's elder brother Hridyesh said that his brother scored good marks in exams and was completing a B.SC course from a local college.

The police officials said that due to the bursting of a sutli bomb or hydro-bomb inside his mouth, his face was extensively damaged which lead to his death.

Recounting the horrific incident, the family members stated that they suddenly heard the sound of firecrackers bursting inside the household and hence, they rushed to the toilet.

When the door was broken with the help of neighbours, they discovered the lifeless body of the boy lying on the floor in a pool of blood and his face badly torn.

A matchbox and the remnants of the twine bomb were also found at the site of the incident. The gruesome sight left the family shocked and in disbelief.

The neighbours said that the boy was a bright student who had previously secured a rank in the list of the top 10 best-performing students of the district by scoring 82 per cent in Class 10.

The locals said that it was the family's financial constraints which prevented the boy from fulfilling his aspirations because of this his behaviour changed and he decided to end his life.

The district hospital's civil surgeon Dr Dilip Singh Sikarwar, who performed the postmortem, stated that due to the twine bomb's explosion in the boy's mouth, there was significant damage caused to his nose, jaw and surrounding bones, which led to his death.

Italy's Portofino, which is situated on the Italian Riviera, is among the various incredible beautiful towns that attract thousands of tourists every year to the boot-shaped country.

The picturesque town is a perfect place for travellers looking for pastel-coloured houses, seafood restaurants and high-end boutiques. However, for the selfie-lovers, the town may not be the best place to visit.

No-waiting zones have been introduced by the local government in the town to prevent tourists and visitors from 'lingering' for a long period of time in popular tourist spots.

If a person is caught by local officials taking a selfie in specific spots then they may have to pay a fine of €275 ($303).

Portofino's mayor Matteo Viacava said that people taking selfies cause "anarchic chaos", which includes blocked streets and huge traffic jams.

The local government had introduced the rule over the Easter weekend and plans to keep the selfie rule imposed till the holiday season ends in October.

For tourists who are desperate to take a selfie of themselves in the forbidden zones, the ban imposed by the local government is lifted every day at 6pm. Portofino is not the only town where the authorities have banned people from taking selfies.

Japan's railway authorities have forbidden people from using selfie sticks across the railway network fearing that the selfie-takers may touch overhead wiring mistakenly and electrocute themselves.

In the United Kingdom, people have been banned from taking selfies in parts of the Tower of London because of security concerns related to the Crown Jewels. Taking any kind of photos or videos with royal gems is strictly forbidden inside the Jewel House as it may pose threat to their security.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and the country's former prime minister Imran Khan said that the former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had given him the advice to dissolve the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), The News.com reported.

In an interview held on Sunday, Khan said that he held a meeting with General Bajwa, in the presence of President Arif Alvi, where the former army chief suggested if he wanted elections then he needs to dissolve his governments in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a report published by The News.com.

The deposed prime minister was ousted from his office following a no-confidence motion in April 2022. Khan said that he was informed by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) that Bajwa intended to bring Shehbaz Sharif into power.

"General Bajwa and the (premier intelligence) agency knew that the current rulers had stolen the money from the national kitty and taken it abroad. Despite knowing this, General Bajwa was willing to give them 'NRO' as he had planned an extension (for himself)," said Khan.

In the interview, Khan stated that elections can take place in July if the incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decides to dissolve the National Assembly, which is the parliament's lower house.

"Elections can be held in July if the prime minister dissolves the assembly," stated the ousted premier.

He further emphasised that the caretaker government present in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where PTI was in power before the two assemblies were dissolved by Khan on January 14 and 18, respectively, are illegal as their stipulated term has lapsed.

He stated that the caretaker government needs to be abolished and a new "neutral" interim government must be instated. He added that the country's Supreme Court has given the date of May 14 for the Punjab elections and his party won't allow the government to postpone elections beyond that.

Pakistan: Imran Khan says former army chief Bajwa asked him to dissolve provincial assemblies

A first-class passenger, travelling in Delta Airlines, was arrested after he was accused of forcing himself and kissing a male flight attendant on his neck, reported the New York Post.

The 61-year-old passenger, identified as David Alan Burk, had boarded the flight in Minnesota and was travelling to Alaska to settle an estate which was owned by his dead friend.

Since Burk was a Delta Airlines flight's first-class passenger, he was entitled to drinks before the flight's take-off from Minneapolis.

However, the passenger was informed by the crew member that he ''ran out of time'' to serve him red wine. After the flight took off, a glass of red wine was served to the passenger by the attendant, who was identified as TC.

When the flight attendant came back to collect meal trays from the passenger, Burk reached out to shake hands with TC, as per an affidavit. After 10 minutes, Burk got up for using the restroom and stopped at the galley where the attendant was standing.

He complimented the male flight attendant that he was ''so beautiful' and then asked for a kiss. Replying to the passenger, the attendant said, ''No, thank you”. After which Burk insisted, ''Okay, well on the neck then.”

The passenger then grabbed the flight attendant and planted a kiss on his neck, making TC extremely ''uncomfortable.''

''TC never gave verbal consent or implicit consent to Burk to allow him to touch or kiss TC, or to make him think it was okay to do so,” said the affidavit.

After the shocking incident, the flight attendant stayed at the back of the plane for the remaining six-hour journey. Another attendant later informed TC that a tray, which contained the food for the flight's captain, was damaged by the passenger.

The passenger asked for two glasses of red wine and then became ''wasted'' and fell asleep, according to the affidavit. When the flight landed in Anchorage, Airport Police took Burk into their custody.

During interrogation, the passenger denied getting up for using the toilet, planting a kiss forcefully on the flight attendant's neck and breaking a plate. However, he accepted that he drank ''a lot'' before the flight.

A first-class passenger, travelling in Delta Airlines, was arrested after he was accused of forcing himself and kissing a male flight attendant on his neck, reported the New York Post.

After 10 minutes, Burk got up for using the restroom and stopped at the galley where the attendant was standing. He complimented the male flight attendant that he was ''so beautiful' and then asked for a kiss. Replying to the passenger, the attendant said, ''No, thank you”. After which Burk insisted, ''Okay, well on the neck then.” The passenger then grabbed the flight attendant and planted a kiss on his neck, making TC extremely ''uncomfortable.'' ''TC never gave verbal consent or implicit consent to Burk to allow him to touch or kiss TC, or to make him think it was okay to do so,” said the affidavit. Drunk passenger accused of forcibly kissing Delta's male flight attendant

William Shakespeare, the celebrated playwright and poet of the English language, is even today loved and read by many. The world marks English Language Day on April 23 to remember the "Bard of Avon" on his birth and death day, which interestingly fall on the same date. He is one of the most-read and highly-quoted playwrights, who continues to make his way into textbooks in schools and colleges, centuries after his works were in circulation.

Even as he is remembered for his classic plays, poetry and sonnets, clouds of doubt continue to hover over his authorship. While to the majority of the population Shakespeare may remain as the writer of classic plays like "Julius Caesar", "Romeo and Juliet, "Othello" and others, a section of society believes that he was nothing but a face used to hide the actual writers who did not want to disclose their identities.

<h2>Anti-Stratfordian theory</h2>

The question of Shakespeare's authorship was raised by figures like Walt Whitman, as they speculated that the "real" authors of the play are English writer and philosopher Sir Francis Bacon, English playwright and the 17th Earl of Oxford Edward de Vere.

The people who advocated this "anti-Stratfordian theory" argued that it is difficult to believe Shakespeare penned these plays, considering his educational background and lack of aristocratic sensibility.

Such an argument has been put forth because very less is known about Shakespeare's personal life and whatever information is available, the anti-Stratfordians say that it does not add up to the idea that he is the same person who wrote such classics.

<h2>Humble background and the question of literacy</h2>

Shakespeare was the son of a glove-maker. His education has always remained a mystery due to a lack of documentary proof. The Grammar School of King Edward VI at Stratford-upon-Avon is said to have been providing free education in the classics and Latin grammar. However, since no documentation or attendance record of the school from that time survives today, it remains unknown if Shakespeare ever received an education.

Anti-Stratfordians claim that, with no educational or cultural background, it is difficult to believe that Shakespeare actually authored those plays and poems. Six authenticated signatures of the playwright survive today which the people, questioning his authorship over the works accredited to him, term as "an illiterate scrawl". In these signatures, Shakespeare spelt his name differently each time, giving the anti-Stratfordians a reason to believe that Shakespeare was probably illiterate.&nbsp;

<h2>An impersonator or "the sweet swan of Avon"</h2>

The academic Shakespeareans strongly believe that Shakespeare on the First Folio is the same William Shakespeare who is believed to have lived and died in Stratford-upon-Avon from 1564 to 1616. They also argue that Shakespeare finds his mention in his fellow playwright Ben Jonson's poem where he is called "the sweet swan of Avon".

They also claim that the Shakespeare funerary monument inside Holy Trinity Church at Stratford-upon-Avon along with the inscription on the bust that compares him to Socrates and poet Virgil is the strongest evidence of Shakespeare's existence and his rightful attribution to the classic plays.

The debates around Shakespeare's authorship may continue for decades and the historical evidence of his existence may remain in oblivion forever, but the plays attributed to the author will still remain quintessential to the literature.&nbsp;

English Language Day honours William Shakespeare, but did he really write those works?

China's Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong has requested solemn representations with the ambassador of South Korea after the country's president made "erroneous" remarks about Taiwan, stated the Chinese foreign ministry on Sunday.

While speaking exclusively with Reuters, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said that there has been an increase in tensions around Taiwan after forced attempts were made to change the status quo. The president added that he opposes such a change.

"The Taiwan issue is not simply an issue between China and Taiwan but, like the issue of North Korea, it is a global issue," said Yoon.

Sun called the remarks made by Yoon as "totally unacceptable", as per the statement released by the Chinese foreign ministry.

"The South Korean leader made no mention of the One China principle, but equated the Taiwan issue with the Korean Peninsula issue," said Sun.

"Both North and South Korea are sovereign states that have joined the United Nations. It is a well-known fact that the Korean Peninsula issue and the Taiwan issue are completely different in nature and in latitude and longitude, and are not comparable at all,” the Chinese vice foreign minister.

China claims Taiwan, which is democratically ruled, as belonging to its own territory. The claims made by China are strongly rejected by Taipei.

The Chinese government demands that the nation, with which it shares ties, must recognise Taiwan as Chinese territory.

The complaint was made by Sun after last week the Chinese foreign ministry stated that all the issues related to Taiwan must be handled “prudently” by South Korea.

Retorting to the statement, South Korea summoned China's ambassador to protest against the remarks made by Beijing.

Recently, China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang claimed that two sides of the Taiwan Strait were part of China's territory and it was right for the Chinese government to uphold its sovereignty.

“Taiwan has been an inalienable part of China's territory since ancient times. Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China. This is the history of Taiwan and the current situation of Taiwan,” the minister said.

"Recently there has been absurd rhetoric, accusing China of challenging the rules-based international order, and that it’s trying to unilaterally upend the status quo in the Taiwan Strait by force or coercion... The logic is absurd and the consequences are dangerous. Those who play with fire on the Taiwan issue will eventually get themselves burned," Qin added.

China had also held military exercises around Taiwan after its president Tsai Ing-wen held talks with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles.&nbsp;
