<p>Singapore on Friday (July 28) executed a 45-year-old citizen for drug trafficking, in the first execution of a woman in the city-state in nearly 20 years.</p>

<p>"The capital sentence of death imposed on Saridewi Binte Djamani was carried out on 28 July 2023," said the Central Narcotics Bureau.</p>

<p>The woman was convicted of trafficking "not less than 30.72 grams" of heroin, which is more than twice the volume that paves the way for the death penalty in Singapore.</p>

<p>Djamani, who was sentenced by the court in 2018, "was accorded full due process under the law, and was represented by legal counsel throughout the process," said the bureau in a statement.</p>

<p>"She appealed against her conviction and sentence, and the Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal on 6 October 2022," the bureau stated, adding that the court also rejected her plea for presidential clemency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Djamani was the first woman who has faced execution in the city-state since 2004, said the bureau.&nbsp;</p>

8 Dark, Grisly Shades Of Human Life In Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan's new movie Oppenheimer is peppered with baffling human emotions, mental disarray and repentance.  Here are the 8 dark shades of human lives depicted in the movie.

Oppenheimer lives through the pursuit of ultimate scientific glory in his initial days in Cambridge and Germany, only to fall into the fallacy of creating the most lethal weapon for deterrence among nations and for the world to find its peace.

2. 'To sin is a human business, but to justify sins is a devilish business'

Oppenheimer is seen encountering a moment when rage takes over his sensibilities and he ends up poisoning an apple which he hopes his professor will eat. This is a perfect example of how people sin and how Oppenheimer's character hints at the destructiveness it may unleash in future.

3. Even the most decorated people can go nude with loose morals

Oppenheimer is shown in fear of societal defamation when he is forced to reveal his meetings with Jean Tatlock, as his wife sits behind and stares at his revelation. It's a perfect depiction of how the scientist, who was once "the man of the moment", is now being stripped naked because of some of his wrongdoings .

4. Excitement to reach the finishing line fades once the line is crossed

Once the nuclear test is successful and the success is celebrated, there is an eerie lull that stands behind the back of Oppenheimer as he looks at trucks filled with bombs he created going away to show the world the magic he brought to existence.

5. Most magnificent magic may hide death in its heart

'Magic' is the word that Oppenheimer utters when he talks about the most anticipated Trinity test. However, hours before the test, he seemed to be hounded by the thoughts of what if the fire he is about to ignite may burn the whole world.

It was the horrors committed by Nazis that somewhere seem to have led Oppenheimer, himself a Jew, to think about creating something which can eradicate them completely.

Melons are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, potassium, and antioxidants. These keep the skin, hair, and overall health of the body maintained.

8. Humans don't ride on future, they get consumed by it

As Oppenheimer takes the stage to address the roaring crowds after the success of the Trinity test, he seems to be troubled and lost in the future in which he had constructed himself. He is grieving and filled with sorrow and his vision is haunted by visuals of humans wailing and hurt after the bombing.

<p>Rolls-Royce shares soared 19 per cent on Monday (July 24) after the engine maker raised its guidance for the full year. The company now expects underlying operating profit to be in the range of £1.2 billion ($1.56 billion) to £1.4 billion ($1.81 billion), up from a previous guidance of £0.8-1 billion ($1.04-1.30 billion).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company's CEO Warren East said that the improved guidance was due to "stronger-than-expected" demand for its products and services. He also said that the company was "making good progress" on its transformation plan. The news of Rolls-Royce's improved guidance was met with relief by investors, who had been concerned about the company's recent performance. The company's shares had fallen by more than 40 per cent in the past year.</p>

<p>The improved guidance suggests that Rolls-Royce is on the right track to recovery. However, the company still faces a number of challenges, including the ongoing grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX. Despite these challenges, the news of Rolls-Royce's improved guidance is a positive sign for the company and its investors.</p>

China pushes through communications satellite to rival Elon Musk’s Starlink

<p>A Norwegian woman, along with her Nepali guide, established the record of the fastest summit of all 14 'super peaks' on Thursday (July 27) as they scaled the peaks of the world's 8,000-metre (26,000-feet) mountain, said their team in a statement.</p>

<p>Kristin Harila along with her guide Tenjin Sherpa, who is also known as Lama, completed the feat in three months and one day after the summit of Pakistan's K2, which was the last peak on their quest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The record reflects "their unwavering determination, teamwork, and sheer tenacity throughout this monumental endeavour", the team said, in the statement.</p>

<p>"Harila and Lama's collaboration has showcased the essence of mountaineering unity, transcending borders and cultures to achieve greatness together," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The pair broke the record of Nepal-born British adventurer Nirmal Purja who completed the summit in six months and six days in 2019. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Currently, Purja is trying to set the record for the fastest climb of all 14 peaks without using any supplemental oxygen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In her efforts to set the record, Harila had to complete the summit of the 12 mountain peaks twice, which includes K2, after there were delays in clearing visas from China to climb Shishapangma, which is in Tibet and Cho Oyu, which is generally climbed from the Chinese side.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The top 14 peaks of the world have been summited by more than 40 people, among which only a few of them were women.</p>

<h2><strong>Struggle of securing sponsors</strong></h2>

<p>Last year, &nbsp;even after proving her climbing prowess, 37-year-old Harila was struggling to secure sponsors, forcing the climber to sell her apartment to collect funds for her quest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think to do this project if I was a man would be much easier," she said while speaking to AFP in an interview in May.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is just different to be a woman in the world, not just with the sponsorships," she added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harila has been a native of Vadso, situated near the Barents Sea in the northernmost reaches of Norway, where the highest point is only 633 metres (2,000 feet).</p>

<p>Lama, who has worked as a guide since the age of 16, was a companion of Kristin throughout her record-breaking journey.</p>

A Norwegian woman, along with her Nepali guide, established the record of the fastest summit of all 14 'super peaks' on Thursday (July 27) as they scaled the peaks of the world's 8,000-metre (26,000-feet) mountain, said their team in a statement.

A Norwegian woman, along with her Nepali guide, established the record of the fastest summit of all 14 'super peaks' on Thursday (July 27) as they scaled the peaks of the world's 8,000-metre (26,000-feet) mountain, said their team in a statement. Kristin Harila along with her guide Tenjin Sherpa, who is also known as Lama, completed the feat in three months and one day after the summit of Pakistan's K2, which was the last peak on their quest. The record reflects "their unwavering determination, teamwork, and sheer tenacity throughout this monumental endeavour", the team said, in the statement. "Harila and Lama's collaboration has showcased the essence of mountaineering unity, transcending borders and cultures to achieve greatness together," it added. Currently, Purja is trying to set the record for the fastest climb of all 14 peaks without using any supplemental oxygen. In her efforts to set the record, Harila had to complete the summit of the 12 mountain peaks twice, which includes K2, after there were delays in clearing visas from China to climb Shishapangma, which is in Tibet and Cho Oyu, which is generally climbed from the Chinese side. The top 14 peaks of the world have been summited by more than 40 people, among which only a few of them were women. Struggle of securing sponsors Last year, even after proving her climbing prowess, 37-year-old Harila was struggling to secure sponsors, forcing the climber to sell her apartment to collect funds for her quest. "I think to do this project if I was a man would be much easier," she said while speaking to AFP in an interview in May. "It is just different to be a woman in the world, not just with the sponsorships," she added. Lama, who has worked as a guide since the age of 16, was a companion of Kristin throughout her record-breaking journey. "Lama's invaluable expertise and profound connection with the mountains have been integral to their success in navigating treacherous terrains and facing harsh weather conditions," the team’s statement read. Naked woman pulls up car, takes out gun, opens fire on California Bridge; video goes viral

<p>Christopher Nolan's new movie Oppenheimer, in which he chronicles the life of J Robert Oppenheimer, has taken the centre-stage in discussions surrounding the nuclear bomb and the life of the man who created such a destructive weapon. While the movie talks about a lot of things, it's peppered with baffling human emotions, mental disarray and repentance. It's about a success served cold and grisly. Here are the 8 dark shades of human lives depicted in the movie.</p>

<h2><strong>1. Fallacy of human mind</strong></h2>

<p>Mind is a mysterious world, full of waves of emotions and ideas all of which one may not be able to gather at once. To lose oneself to the atrocities unleashed by one's mind is only natural. But Nolan has shown how Oppenheimer lives through the pursuit of ultimate scientific glory in his initial days in Cambridge and Germany, only to fall into its fallacy of creating the most lethal weapon for deterrence among nations and for the world to find its peace. It's the mind of a scientist who is excited at the invention and is seeking happiness from the creation of something affirmative which may build the future of the world, unable to see its dark side.</p>

<h2><strong>2. 'To sin is a human business, but to justify sins is a devilish business'</strong></h2>

<p>This statement by Russian author Leo Tolstoy underlines the intense nuclear proliferation by Washington and Moscow that brought humanity closest to its prospect of annihilation. The statement also sits aptly for a few instances which the film depicts from the life of the scientist as well as that of former US president Harry S Truman. Oppenheimer is seen encountering a moment when rage takes over his sensibilities and he ends up poisoning an apple which he hopes his professor will eat.</p>

<p><strong>ALSO READ |&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions-blogs/trapped-in-politics-should-dr-oppenheimer-have-been-blacklisted-for-what-he-did-619169">Trapped in politics: Should Dr Oppenheimer have been blacklisted for what he did?</a></p>

<p>This is a perfect example of how people sin and how Oppenheimer's character hints at the destructiveness it may unleash in future. But the devil is seen residing in Truman too, who in a chilling scene, nonchalantly hands over a white handkerchief to the scientist to wipe his hands, when the latter, filled with guilt and remorse, says "I have blood on my hand".</p>

<h2><strong>3. Even the most decorated people can go nude with loose morals</strong></h2>

<p>While going through the pre-decided hearing, Oppenheimer is shown standing at the conjunction of realism and hyperrealism, driven by shame and fear of societal defamation when he is forced to reveal his meetings with Jean Tatlock, as his wife sits behind and stares at his revelation. It's a perfect depiction of how the scientist, who was once "the man of the moment", is now being stripped naked because of some of his wrongdoings in his personal life.</p>

<h2><strong>4. Excitement to reach the finishing line fades once the line is crossed</strong></h2>

<p>There is hustle and bustle and speed as America races against time to create the deadliest weapon humankind has ever seen. Shallow breath, hard deadlines which seem impossible to be met and curious eyes that stare blankly at the future – this is what defines the environment of Los Alamos hours before the Trinity test. However, once the test is successful and the success is celebrated, there is an eerie lull that stands behind the back of Oppenheimer as he looks at trucks filled with bombs he created going away to show the world the magic he brought to existence.</p>

<h2><strong>5. Most magnificent magic may hide death in its heart</strong></h2>

<p>'Magic' is the word that Oppenheimer utters when he talks about the most anticipated Trinity test. There is a thirst of a magician to show the world the most perfect trick ever mastered. He seems to be willing to give away everything to make it happen. However, hours before the test, he seemed to be hounded by the thoughts of what if the fire he is about to ignite may burn the whole world. It is the gory truth that the soul is aware of and the human mind refuses to accept.</p>

<h2><strong>6. Evil awakens the devil</strong></h2>

<p>If we look at World War II, we may find the scale of balance faltering, failing to choose who is more atrocious. The persecution of Jews by Nazi Germany is seen as one of the darkest phases of mankind. Even when the world was witnessing it, the defined monstrosity of Nazi Germany must have left weaker Jews horrified and afraid and the stronger ones filled with rage to avenge the cruelty.</p>

<p><strong>WATCH |&nbsp;Gravitas: Oppenheimer opens with a bang in Kashmir</strong></p>

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/gravitas-oppenheimer-opens-with-a-bang-in-kashmir-619053/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

<p>Science doesn't remain confined to labs and experimental sites; it unfolds itself in the growing, burgeoning society. That's what happened with Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion - "For every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction". It was the horrors committed by Nazis that somewhere seems to have led Oppenheimer, himself a Jew, to think about creating something which can eradicate them completely.</p>

<h2><strong>7. What is once gained is always meant to be lost</strong></h2>

<p>Oppenheimer, who became the greatest scientist of his time and earned the title of the "father of the atomic bomb" and was featured in TIME magazine as the "man of the moment", suddenly saw his life falling apart with his security clearance getting revoked and him being branded as a "Russian spy". It is a full circle as life seems to complete its ecstatic dance, full of highs and lows, losing everything that once was earned through ideation, hard work and seldom through magic.</p>

<h2><strong>8. Humans don't ride on future, they get consumed by it</strong></h2>

<p>The future is a far-fetched dream that humans, like Oppenheimer, try to construct with their own efforts, only to find themselves stuck in its chaos and noise. As Oppenheimer takes the stage to address the roaring crowds after the success of the Trinity test, he seems to be troubled and lost in the future in which he had constructed himself. He is grieving and filled with sorrow and his vision is haunted by visuals of humans wailing and hurt after the bombing. Humans tend to believe they know it all, but what lies in future is just another magic that time reveals, eventually consuming us mere humans wholly.</p>

Christopher Nolan's new movie Oppenheimer, in which he chronicles the life of J Robert Oppenheimer, has taken the centre-stage in discussions surrounding the nuclear bomb and the life of the man who created such a destructive weapon. While the movie talks about a lot of things, it's peppered with baffling human emotions, mental disarray and repentance. It's about a success served cold and grisly. Here are the 8 dark shades of human lives depicted in the movie. 1. Fallacy of human mind Mind is a mysterious world, full of waves of emotions and ideas all of which one may not be able to gather at once. It's the mind of a scientist who is excited at the invention and is seeking happiness from the creation of something affirmative which may build the future of the world, unable to see its dark side. 2. 'To sin is a human business, but to justify sins is a devilish business' This statement by Russian author Leo Tolstoy underlines the intense nuclear proliferation by Washington and Moscow that brought humanity closest to its prospect of annihilation. The statement also sits aptly for a few instances which the film depicts from the life of the scientist as well as that of former US president Harry S Truman. Oppenheimer is seen encountering a moment when rage takes over his sensibilities and he ends up poisoning an apple which he hopes his professor will eat. ALSO READ | Trapped in politics: Should Dr Oppenheimer have been blacklisted for what he did? This is a perfect example of how people sin and how Oppenheimer's character hints at the destructiveness it may unleash in future. But the devil is seen residing in Truman too, who in a chilling scene, nonchalantly hands over a white handkerchief to the scientist to wipe his hands, when the latter, filled with guilt and remorse, says "I have blood on my hand". 3. Even the most decorated people can go nude with loose morals While going through the pre-decided hearing, Oppenheimer is shown standing at the conjunction of realism and hyperrealism, driven by shame and fear of societal defamation when he is forced to reveal his meetings with Jean Tatlock, as his wife sits behind and stares at his revelation. It's a perfect depiction of how the scientist, who was once "the man of the moment", is now being stripped naked because of some of his wrongdoings in his personal life. 4. Excitement to reach the finishing line fades once the line is crossed There is hustle and bustle and speed as America races against time to create the deadliest weapon humankind has ever seen. Shallow breath, hard deadlines which seem impossible to be met and curious eyes that stare blankly at the future – this is what defines the environment of Los Alamos hours before the Trinity test. However, once the test is successful and the success is celebrated, there is an eerie lull that stands behind the back of Oppenheimer as he looks at trucks filled with bombs he created going away to show the world the magic he brought to existence. 5. Most magnificent magic may hide death in its heart 'Magic' is the word that Oppenheimer utters when he talks about the most anticipated Trinity test. There is a thirst of a magician to show the world the most perfect trick ever mastered. He seems to be willing to give away everything to make it happen. However, hours before the test, he seemed to be hounded by the thoughts of what if the fire he is about to ignite may burn the whole world. It is the gory truth that the soul is aware of and the human mind refuses to accept. 6. Evil awakens the devil If we look at World War II, we may find the scale of balance faltering, failing to choose who is more atrocious. The persecution of Jews by Nazi Germany is seen as one of the darkest phases of mankind. Even when the world was witnessing it, the defined monstrosity of Nazi Germany must have left weaker Jews horrified and afraid and the stronger ones filled with rage to avenge the cruelty. WATCH | Gravitas: Oppenheimer opens with a bang in Kashmir Science doesn't remain confined to labs and experimental sites; it unfolds itself in the growing, burgeoning society. That's what happened with Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion - "For every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction". It was the horrors committed by Nazis that somewhere seems to have led Oppenheimer, himself a Jew, to think about creating something which can eradicate them completely. 7. What is once gained is always meant to be lost Oppenheimer, who became the greatest scientist of his time and earned the title of the "father of the atomic bomb" and was featured in TIME magazine as the "man of the moment", suddenly saw his life falling apart with his security clearance getting revoked and him being branded as a "Russian spy". It is a full circle as life seems to complete its ecstatic dance, full of highs and lows, losing everything that once was earned through ideation, hard work and seldom through magic. 8. Humans don't ride on future, they get consumed by it The future is a far-fetched dream that humans, like Oppenheimer, try to construct with their own efforts, only to find themselves stuck in its chaos and noise. As Oppenheimer takes the stage to address the roaring crowds after the success of the Trinity test, he seems to be troubled and lost in the future in which he had constructed himself. He is grieving and filled with sorrow and his vision is haunted by visuals of humans wailing and hurt after the bombing. Humans tend to believe they know it all, but what lies in future is just another magic that time reveals, eventually consuming us mere humans wholly. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer depicts 8 dark, grisly shades of human lives

<p>University of Arizona planetary science expert Dante Lauretta is set to release the first complete atlas of an asteroid of the world along with a very unlikely figure - Brian May, the lead guitarist of legendary band Queen, who is also a little-known astrophysicist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The duo teamed up to author "Bennu 3-D: Anatomy of an Asteroid', a book which has been described the first three-dimensional and complete atlas of an asteroid.</p>

<p>The book, which will release on Thursday (July 27) features data and images from the Osiris-Rex mission, an undertaking between the University of Arizona and NASA for collecting samples from Bennu, which is a near-Earth asteroid.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The mission, which started on 8 September 2016, will come back to Earth on 24 September 2023. The mission is expected to bring back “pristine material from Bennu – rocks and dust collected from the asteroid’s surface in 2020” and will provide scientists with a window into the space formation 4.5 billion years ago when the planets and sun were at forming stage, said NASA.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, Bennu is among the most potentially hazardous asteroids and carries a comparatively high probability of impacting the planet in the late 22nd century. The Osiris-Rex mission will determine various attributes of Bennu which includes its physical and chemical properties, which, as NASA described, “will be critical to know in the event of an impact mitigation mission”.</p>

<p>In addition to featuring the first atlas of an asteroid in the world, the new book of Lauretta and May will include Bennu's previously unseen stereoscopic three-dimensional images, as well as an analysis of what it reveals about life's origin.</p>

<p>In the preface of the book, Lauretta, writing about his first meeting with May back in 2016, narrates, “Brian and I corresponded briefly about the mission and my hometown of Tucson, Arizona, where he had spent some time enjoying the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert and using it for self-reflection, as many do,” reported Tucson.com.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I was, of course, a huge fan of Brian’s music,” wrote Lauretta, who is the leader of the Osiris-Rex mission, adding, “The fact that I was corresponding with one of my childhood heroes was beyond cool."&nbsp;</p>

<p>“As the OSIRIS-REx mission progressed, I couldn’t help but share some of the latest developments with him … To my delight, Brian showed a keen interest in the mission and the science behind it. It was clear that he was not just a casual fan, but a true space enthusiast and an advocate for space exploration," he added.&nbsp;</p>

5 Countries That Have Their Flags On The Moon

In 1969, the United States successfully planted its first flag on the moon during the manned Apollo 11 mission. After this, five more flags were planted by the US in their subsequent missions till 1972.

The national flag of China was first planted on the moon during its lunar landing mission Chang'e-3 in 2013. The flag was brought to the moon's dark side by the Chang'e-4 lander in 2019.

Soviet Union's Luna 2 spacecraft became the first man-made craft to reach the moon's surface on September 14, 1959. The spacecraft, which crash-landed on the moon's surface, was pre-planned and was carrying the Soviet flag.

On November 15, 2008, India landed its first flag on the moon after the unmanned lunar orbiter Chandrayaan-1 ejected its Moon Impact Probe (MIP). Till now, India has planted four flags on the lunar surface.

In 2019, Israel sent its first spacecraft to the moon which sent back its selfies with the flag planted on the lunar surface.
