In a video address to the NT Resources Week conference in Darwin, Resources Minister Madeleine King said the release included 10 areas spread across the Bonaparte, Browse, Carnarvon, and Gippsland basins.

Off the coasts of Victoria, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and the Ashmore and Cartier Islands are the locations.

"The annual release of areas for offshore petroleum exploration supports ongoing investment in the nation's petroleum sector, which is vital for the economy and meeting the energy needs of Australians. At the same time, as we strive to reduce emissions, it must be emphasised that continued exploration for oil and gas in Commonwealth waters is central to alleviating future domestic gas shortfalls." she said.

The news was welcomed by those in attendance at the Darwin resources conference, but it has been met with scepticism elsewhere.

However, the action will further worry environmental organisations and climate watchers who have already decried plans to test for oil and gas along Victoria's coast in a separate approval, which they claim is at odds with Australia's climate targets.

Record monsoon rains were causing a "catastrophe of epic scale", Pakistan's climate change minister said Wednesday, announcing an international appeal for help in dealing with floods that have killed more than 800 people since June.

The annual monsoon is essential for irrigating crops and replenishing lakes and dams across the Indian subcontinent, but each year it also brings a wave of destruction.

Heavy rain continued to pound much of Pakistan Wednesday, with authorities reporting more than a dozen deaths -- including nine children -- in the last 24 hours.

"It has been raining for a month now. There is nothing left," a woman named Khanzadi told AFP in badly hit Jaffarabad, Balochistan province.

"We had only one goat, that too drowned in the flood... Now we have nothing with us and we are lying along the road and facing hunger."

Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said authorities would launch an appeal for international help once an assessment was complete.

"Given the scale of the disaster there is no question of the provinces, or even Islamabad, being able to cope with this magnitude of climate catastrophe on their own," she told AFP.&nbsp;

"Lives are at risk, thousands homeless. It is important that international partners mobilise assistance."

Pakistan is eighth on a list of countries deemed most vulnerable to extreme weather caused by climate change, according to the Global Climate Risk Index compiled by environmental NGO Germanwatch.

From heatwave to flood

Earlier this year much of the nation was in the grip of a heatwave, with temperatures hitting 51 degrees Celsius (124 Fahrenheit) in Jacobabad, Sindh province.

The city is now grappling with floods that have inundated homes and swept away roads and bridges.

In Sukkur, about 75 kilometres (50 miles) away, volunteers were using boats along the flooded streets of the city to distribute food and fresh water to people trapped in their homes.&nbsp;

Zaheer Ahmad Babar, a senior met office official, told AFP that this year's rains were the heaviest since 2010, when over 2,000 people died and more than two million were displaced by monsoon floods that covered nearly a fifth of the country.

Rainfall in Balochistan province was 430 percent higher than normal, he said, while Sindh was nearing 500 percent.

The town of Padidan in Sindh had received over a metre (39 inches) of rain since August 1, he added.

"It is a climate catastrophe of epic scale," Rehman said, adding three million people had been affected.

The National Disaster Management Authority said in a statement that nearly 125,000 homes had been destroyed and 288,000 more were damaged by the floods.

Some 700,000 livestock in Sindh and Balochistan had been killed, and nearly two million acres of farmland destroyed, officials added.

Nearly 3,000 kilometres of roads had also been damaged.

"We need to know the truth. We need to know who did this to us and hold them accountable. Once we hold someone accountable for this crime, no more crimes like this will happen again," Hasrouty said.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, two large explosions that occurred on August 4, 2020, in the Beirut port caused damage to about 640 historic structures.

According to news reports, World Bank funding totaling USD 13 million has been secured by the Lebanese Culture Minister, Mohammad Mortada, for the reconstruction and restoration of historic buildings harmed by the Beirut explosions.

The letter sheds light on the correspondence between Trump's team and the National Archives and demonstrates that, despite the original 15 boxes being taken from Mar-a-Lago in January, access to them was ultimately delayed for months due to discussions with Trump's lawyers.

The letter also states that the DOJ and National Archives have determined there is no basis for claiming privilege with regard to the 15 boxes of records obtained.

The letter makes it clear that in order to review the documents Trump's representatives request from the Archives, they must possess the required level of security clearance.

When the documents were first made public, the justice department was concerned that the former president might have kept secrets that ought to have been turned over to the government after he left the White House.

Additionally, it prepared the way for the FBI to search Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort earlier this month, during which time they discovered even more sensitive documents.

According to researchers, smokers did not appear to be affected by smog, which is likely because they were already breathing toxic fumes continuously.

It comes after warnings that the UK may experience up to 11,000 annual deaths from heart disease and circulatory conditions as a result of air pollution.

Heart attacks decrease in hot weather, according to the research, which will be presented this weekend at the European Society of Cardiology's annual congress in Barcelona.

Additionally, every 10°C increase in temperature was linked to a 6% decrease in the frequency of heart attacks.

17,873 patients who experienced a heart attack between 2008 and 2014 were included in the study.

The study concludes that traffic and combustion pollution must be reduced if we are to reduce the risk of acute myocardial infarction.

An observational study cannot establish causation. Given that nitric oxide and PM10 promote inflammation, atherosclerosis is partially brought on by inflammatory processes, and no associations were found in smokers, it is plausible that air pollution is a contributing factor in myocardial infarction.

Traffic pollution may significantly increase the risk of heart attack

Raja Singh, a BJP MLA from the southern Indian state of Telangana, was arrested on Tuesday over alleged controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad. The party promptly suspended him.

A large contingent of the outraged population turned out to demonstrate in front of the police stations in Dabeerpura, Bhavaninagar, Reinbazar, and Mirchowk.

Singh was the subject of an FIR at the Dabeerpura Police Station under sections 153a, 295, and 505 of the IPC after a large number of people demonstrated in the streets to demand that something be done about him.

Singh and four others were taken into protective custody earlier on August 19, before comedian Munawar Faruqui's performance in Hyderabad.

India's Ministry of Finance on Sunday stated clearly that no fees are being considered for the country's ubiquitous digital payment system UPI, or United Payments Interface.

The ministry stated that other methods would need to be used to address the UPI service providers' concerns regarding cost recovery.

It also mentioned UPI as a digital public good that offers the general public tremendous convenience and boosts economic productivity.

"UPI is a digital public good with immense convenience for the public &amp; productivity gains for the economy. There is no consideration in Govt to levy any charges for UPI services. The concerns of the service providers for cost recovery have to be met through other means. The Govt had provided financial support for #DigitalPayment ecosystem last year and has announced the same this year as well to encourage further adoption of #DigitalPayments and promotion of payment platforms that are economical and user-friendly," In several tweets, the Ministry of Finance made this statement.

Govt won't charge for services, UPI will remain free: Indian finance ministry

A long-planned plan by India to buy 30 multi-mission, armed Predator drones from the United States for the three services, at an estimated cost of more than $3 billion, is about to be finalised.

People with knowledge of the situation said on Sunday that New Delhi is in the advanced stages of negotiations with the US to purchase these drones in order to ramp up its overall surveillance apparatus along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and in the Indian Ocean.

The three services are buying the long-endurance hunter-killer drones because they can perform a range of tasks, such as maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, over-the-horizon targeting, and hitting stationary ground targets.

The MQ-9B drone, a variation of the MQ-9 "Reaper," is said to have fired a modified Hellfire missile that killed Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda, in the centre of Kabul last month.

According to reliable defence establishment sources, negotiations between New Delhi and Washington for the government-to-government purchase of drones made by US defence major General Atomics are in progress. These sources also refuted claims that the deal is off the table.

General Atomics Global Corporation CEO Dr. Vivek Lall told PTI that negotiations between the two governments are far along in the acquisition programme.

"We understand that the MQ-9B acquisition programme is at an advanced stage of discussion between the US and Indian governments," he said.

"Any questions on those discussions should be addressed specifically to the respective governments. From a company perspective, General Atomics is ready to support India and values our longtime relationship," Lall added.

According to the sources, the discussions are primarily aimed at resolving concerns about the cost component, the arsenal, and technology sharing.

The fourth two-plus-two foreign and defence ministerial dialogue between India and the US took place in Washington in April, according to what is known. The procurement proposal was discussed there.

General Atomics leased two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones to the Indian Navy in 2020 for a year of surveillance in the Indian Ocean. After that, the lease's term was extended.
