But as per a new study, out of all the creative communities in the world, magicians are exempted from the inner turmoil which most artists experience in their lifetime.

The research led by Aberystwyth University's psychology department attributed this to the level of difficulty scale of the several tricks performed by them.

Published in the journal BJPsych Open, the study measured the psychological traits of nearly 200 magicians and compared the results with the data received from other creative groups.

It found that the three pivotal measures of psychosis, delusions are less likely to occur in magicians than in artists, musicians and comedians.

They are also less likely to have hallucinations that mainly make it hard for people to focus.

<h2>Association between creativity and psychopathology</h2>

Gil Greengross from Aberystwyth University, who led the study, said that this was the very first time a research was conducted to demonstrate an artistic group with lower scores on psychotic traits than the general population.

“Our research shows that magicians do not exhibit higher levels of mental disorders. The results demonstrate that the association between creativity and psychopathology is more complex than previously thought,” he said.

“This trait is valuable for many creative groups such as writers, poets and comedians whose acts are often edgy and challenge conventional wisdom. Magicians can be equally innovative and push the limits. However, many magicians perform familiar tricks or variations of them without feeling the need to innovate,” he added.

He then said that the main factor that distinguishes magicians from a majority of other performing artists is the precision that is required in their performances.

"Compared to other performers, it is more difficult to overcome errors - magic tricks largely being 'all or nothing' acts that culminate in an 'Aha' moment of surprise and awe."

"Failed magic tricks leave a greater impact than unfunny jokes and are harder to compensate for as they are few and far between," Dr Greengross added.

"In addition to requiring highly technical skills, regardless of the type of magic performed, the high stakes of magic performances make magicians a unique creative group to study amongst all artistic professions," he further said.

Greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere hit new record highs in 2022, with no end in sight to the rising trend, the United Nations warned Wednesday.

The UN's World Meteorological Organization said levels of the three main greenhouse gases -- climate-warming carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide -- all broke records last year.

Such levels of heat-trapping gases will mean further temperature increases, more extreme weather and higher sea levels, the WMO said in its 19th annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin.

"Despite decades of warnings from the scientific community, thousands of pages of reports and dozens of climate conferences, we are still heading in the wrong direction," said WMO chief Petteri Taalas.

The bulletin comes ahead of the November 30-December 12 COP28 UN climate summit in Dubai.

The 2015 Paris Agreement saw countries agree to cap global warming at "well below" two degrees Celsius above average levels measured between 1850 and 1900 -- and 1.5C if possible.

The global mean temperature in 2022 was 1.15C above the 1850-1900 average.

"The current level of greenhouse gas concentrations puts us on the pathway of an increase in temperatures well above the Paris Agreement targets by the end of this century," said Taalas.

"This will be accompanied by more extreme weather, including intense heat and rainfall, ice melt, sea level rise and ocean heat and acidification.

"The socioeconomic and environmental costs will soar. We must reduce the consumption of fossil fuels as a matter of urgency."

<h2>'No magic wand'</h2>

In 2022, carbon dioxide concentrations were at 418 parts per million, methane at 1,923 parts per billion and nitrous oxide at 336 parts per billion.

These values constitute, respectively, 150 percent, 264 percent and 124 percent of the pre-industrial (before 1750) levels.

Of the three major greenhouses gases, carbon dioxide (CO2) accounts for about 64 percent of the warming effect on the climate.

Global averaged concentrations of CO2 in 2022 were, for the first time, 50 percent above those of the pre-industrial era, "primarily because of emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and cement production", said the WMO.

CO2 atmospheric concentrations "continued to grow in 2023".

"Given the long life of CO2, the temperature level already observed will persist for several decades even if emissions are rapidly reduced to net zero," the WMO warned, with Taalas adding: "There is no magic wand to remove the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere".

Atmospheric methane is the second largest contributor to climate change, accounting for around 16 percent of the warming effect.

Methane remains in the atmosphere for only about 10 years, but has a much more powerful warming impact than CO2.

The methane increase in 2022 was slightly lower than the 2021 increase but considerably higher than the average annual growth rate over the last decade.

For nitrous oxide -- accounting for around seven percent of the warming effect -- the increase last year "was higher than that observed any time before in our modern time record", the WMO said.

<h2>Tipping points&nbsp;</h2>

Although the scientific community has a broad understanding of climate change and its implications, there are still some uncertainties about the carbon cycle -- and the fluxes in the ocean, the land biosphere and the permafrost areas.

The bulletin called for greater information on certain topics.

These included feedback loops in the climate system -- for example, increased carbon emissions from soils or decreased carbon uptake by oceans due to climate change.

The WMO is also concerned about so-called tipping points, where a certain level of change leads to a self-accelerating and potentially irreversible cascade of changes.

The organisation said more information is also needed on non-CO2 greenhouse gases.

Dominica is set to create the world's first sperm whale reserve, designating a swath of ocean where large ships and commercial fishing are restricted and visitors can swim alongside the gentle marine giants.

The Caribbean nation said it hoped the new protected zone of 300 square miles (nearly 800 square kilometers) off its western coast -- roughly the size of the island itself -- would boost valuable tourism revenue but also help sequester more carbon in the deep sea, an often overlooked benefit of whale conservation.&nbsp;

"The 200 or so sperm whales that call our sea home are prized citizens of Dominica," said Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in a statement Monday. "Dominica is honoured to establish the first Sperm Whale Reserve on our planet."

Sperm whales are the largest toothed predators on Earth, living in matrilineal societies with distinct cultures and dialects.

Growing up to 50 feet (16 metres) long, they are found across the globe, from Iceland to New Zealand. But they have a particular affinity for the majestic blue waters off Dominica, which provide critical feeding and nursing grounds.

Marine biologist Shane Gero told AFP he began studying the Dominica whales in 2005, with his research showing the population was experiencing a decline as a result of ship strikes and unintentional entanglements in fishing gear as well as plastic pollution.

"We're losing individual animals and the families that researchers and the operators who do whale watching here know very well," he said. Individuals live up to 90 years, and the Dominican whales communicate in a specific series of clicks thought to convey: "I'm from Dominica, are you?"

Several Dominican whales have been given names, such as "Can Opener," "Fingers" and "Hope," and remember certain tour operators they've come to know.

The nine-page code includes sections that say justices should not let any outside relationships affect their official conduct or judgment, expounding restrictions on their participation in fundraising and reiterating limits on the accepting of gifts. It also states that justices should not "to any substantial degree" use judicial resources or staff for non-official activities.

The media reports further referred to the wanted terrorist as “Mauzin”, a person who proclaims the call to the daily prayer.

However, as per local media reports, the family of the deceased rebuffed enmity accusations.

This comes after the senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Akram Khan Ghazi, was killed by unidentified assailants in the Bajaur district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The reports of the killings of both Ghazi and Tariq come amid a spate of mysterious killings of terrorists in Pakistan by unidentified assailants over the past few weeks.

Earlier Khwaja Shahid, a significant member of Lashkar-e-Taiba who was also believed to be involved in the 2018 terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp in Sunjuwan, was reportedly kidnapped and later found beheaded close to the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

In a similar incident, Daud Malik, who is also considered a trusted member of Masood Azhar, was killed in broad daylight in Waziristan in October.

Recently, in an interview with Vogue magazine, the couple opened up about their wedding plans.

“We’re still thinking about the wedding,” Sánchez said, “what it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”&nbsp;
