And God willing, they will be the ones to suffer for it," a pensioner Amadou Adamou was quoted as saying by Reuters. The Capitals: Saudi Arabia's peace bid for Ukraine minus Moscow, Ottawa's 'cigarettes cause impotence' warning

Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, who remained in Mumbai's Byculla jail on charges of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, has put out her side of the story, with the spotlight on a murder case that shook India in the mid-2010s. Mukerjea, who says that Bora was like her sister and not her daughter, has now come out with a memoir titled 'Unbroken: The Untold Story'.

The Supreme Court had granted Mukerjea bail on May 18 last year, saying her time in prison was too long a term and the trial in the case won't be completed anytime soon.

She has throughout denied the murder charge.

Mukerjea, in her book, "strips away the layers of sensationalism that surrounded me and reveal the raw truth of my experiences".

Months after Sheena Bora, an executive in Mumbai Metro, went missing in 2015, Mumbai Police arrested Indrani Mukerjea and later her then-husband Peter Mukerjea, and her driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, for allegedly abducting and killing her and subsequently burning her corpse.

'Did not have a conventional parent-child relationship with Sheena'

Through the book, Mukerjea says she wants to "reach out to anyone who has faced adversity and believed they were beyond repair".

Mukerjea writes, though she and Sheena looked really similar and even liked similar food, they did not have a conventional parent-child relationship.

"I discovered what Sheena was like only when she was 15 years of age. Right from the start, we bonded like friends. Sheena considered my mother as her parent because she grew up with my parents; she saw me more as a sibling," Mukerjea writes in the book, published by HarperCollins India.

She goes on to say that both she and Sheena invested in creating a bond.

"Over the years, our bond intensified. We shared everything - from food to jewellery to clothes…," the book says.

But that was unfortunately short-lived, claims Mukerjea.

"I didn't know the challenges of being a parent to a 21-year-old. The minute I stopped playing the cool parent and became the strict one, things changed," she writes.

'She was my kid who could do no wrong': Indrani Mukerjea

Mukerjea claims she never expressed her rage to Sheena.

"She was my kid who could do no wrong. I treated her like an adult and respected her decisions. I was strict but I also trusted her to handle her life and conflicts with maturity and tenacity.

"So, when she decided to not stay in touch, I respected her space. I knew badgering her would get us nowhere. Just like the first time, the effort to reconcile had to come from her end. And then, 2015 happened," she writes.

On August 25, 2015, Mukerjea was charged by a team of Mumbai Police of murdering Sheena.

"And what about Sheena? The child of mine I allegedly throttled with my own hands. Sheena and I have the same soul. We carried the same pain, with a smile big enough to hide all of it underneath the shine. She was bright and warm, loving and kind. She had inherited my strength of spirit," she writes.

Sheena is alive: Indrani Mukerjea's big claim

Indrani makes a big claim in the book when she says, "I am now at peace after Sheena was spotted at the Guwahati airport by my friend - Saveena. Being an advocate herself, her quick thinking got us the footage of Sheena from the airport…"

She goes on to add: "Something changed in me after this information came to the fore. The person I am accused of killing is out and about, while I was rotting in jail. Why hasn't she come out openly? I don't know. I am sure there are reasons and pressures holding her back. But this is the second time I have been told Sheena is alive.

"When I was in prison, an inmate at Byculla Jail too claimed to have seen Sheena in Kashmir. She was a 'female government official'. I, through my lawyer Sana (Raees Khan), urged the CBI to probe this. It went nowhere. But when Saveena saw her, recently, we knew we had to look for her."

"Sheena is alive and out there," writes Mukerjea.

But this is not the first time that Mukerjea has made this claim. In 2015, she claimed that Sheena was alive and living in the United States.

Immediately after her release from jail in May last year, Mukerjea made the same claim in an interview with journalist Barkha Dutt. With her memoir, however, this is the first time that she has documented this claim in particular.

Indrani Mukerjea claims daughter Sheena Bora, who she's accused of killing, is alive, 'out there'

Ukraine presented its much-awaited and equally anticipated 10-point peace formula during talks held in Saudi Arabia without Russian participation, various sources cited by news agency AFP said.

The meeting had senior officials from approximately 40 countries, including the US, China, and India. The primary goal of the discussions was to seek agreement on crucial principles for bringing an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine, a conflict that has had far-reaching implications on the global economy.

The meeting, hosted by Saudi Arabia, was seen as an attempt by the Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to act as a mediator to resolve the dispute and end the conflict which started in February last year.

Ukraine's peace formula supported by 'multiple' countries

A representative of the Ukrainian delegation reportedly said that the proposed 10-point peace formula received support from multiple participating countries. The representative, however, did not disclose the specific countries who purportedly supported Ukrainian stance.

The two-day meeting in Jeddah did not have any representation from Russia, the principal party in the conflict.

Thereby, the Jeddah meet has emerged as a strategic diplomatic effort by Ukraine to expand its support network beyond its traditional Western allies.

The country aimed to foster alliances with countries from the Global South, seeking assistance in reaching a viable solution to the conflict.

By engaging with a broader array of nations, Ukraine hoped to garner additional backing for its peace initiatives.

For the Jeddah summit, sources cited by The Indian Express said that the 30 invitees for the summit included Brazil, South Africa, Chile, Egypt, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Zambia.

Ukraine's 10-point peace plan: The central goal

At the heart of Ukraine's 10-point proposed peace plan formula remained a call for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory. This plan aimed to hold Russia accountable for war atrocities and requires Moscow to surrender all captured Ukrainian territory and pay damages.

Russia has rejected the plan in the past.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office had previously said that the Jeddah meeting would focus on this critical aspect. Achieving this goal would be paramount in restoring peace and stability to the region, Kyiv maintains.

The gathering in Jeddah followed earlier informal talks in Copenhagen, which had not resulted in an official statement. However, the Ukrainian source cited by news agency AFP said that the 10-point formula gained more significant support during the Jeddah meeting than it had in Copenhagen.

This eagerness was evident in the Kingdom's hosting of President Zelensky at an Arab summit in Jeddah earlier in May, during which he urged leaders to acknowledge the devastating impact of Russia's invasion on Ukraine.

Ukraine claims it downed 30 Russian cruise missiles, all drones; Moscow insists all military targets were hit

Pakistan's ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested on Saturday for the second time in less than three months. Khan was arrested after a court sentenced him to three years in prison for illegally selling state gifts -- dubbed Toshakhana case -- and banned him from politics for the next five years.

Last time when Khan was arrested on May 9, the massive protests by his supporters had gripped the country. The unprecedented visuals showing rioting protesters demonstrating near country's military installations had stunned observers since military-intelligence syndicate is dubbed as 'the establishment' has reigned supreme since 1947 when the country first came into being after a bitter partition from India.

Imran Khan's latest arrest: What does it mean?

Experts cited in the media say that the verdict by court, if not repealed by higher courts, could eliminate Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance's leader and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's rival in the national election. While the election schedule has not been announced as yet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed that the National Assembly will be dissolved on August 9.

"Police have arrested Imran Khan from his residence," Khan's lawyer, Intezar Panjotha, was quoted as saying by Reuters. "We are filing a petition against the decision in high court."

Lahore Police Chief Bilal Siddique Kamiana said that Khan was being transferred to the capital, Islamabad. However, after various reports, Imran Khan was later on moved to the notorious Attock jail in Attock and not in Adiala Jail of Rawalpindi.
