Canadian MP moves motion to make November the Hindu Heritage Month

<p>Reporters Without Borders, often known by its French acronym RSF said in a report that unregulated online content has helped spread disinformation and propaganda that have in turn led to widening of political divisions and even caused international tension contributing to Russian invasion of Ukraine.</p>

<p>The media watchdog presented its findings in the 2022 edition of its annual World Press Freedom Index</p>

<p>The report said that democratic societies are increasingly being fractured by disinformation spreading social media while mainstream media pursues a "Fox News model". This is a reference to US right-wing television network.</p>

<p>The report noted that autocratic regimes were tightening control on information within their societies. This leverage, is in turn used to wage "propaganda wars" against democracies and fuel divisions within them.</p>

<p>Such polarisation is becoming more "extreme," worldwide, RSF's director of operations and campaigns Rebecca Vincent told a news conference in London.</p>

<p>Vincent pointed to deaths of journalists in Netherlands, Greece and also mentioned case of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who is facing an extradition and trial in US for publication of millions of secret documents.</p>

<p>The report showed how Russia, where state-run media overwhelmingly dominates and independent outlets are largely stifled, waged a propaganda war before its invasion of Ukraine.</p>

<p>Evgeniya Dillendorf, a correspondent for the independent Novaya Gazeta newspaper, said the main reason for lack of media diversity in Russia "is not pressure but lack of independent business which would finance it, and the lack of independent judicial system that would defend it".</p>

<p>Novaya Gazeta has suspended publication for the duration of Moscow's military intervention to avoid being shut down.</p>

<p>"The creation of media weaponry in authoritarian countries eliminates their citizens' right to information but is also linked to the rise in international tension, which can lead to the worst kind of wars," RSF Secretary-General Christophe Deloire said.</p>

<p>The "Fox News-isation" of Western media also posed a "fatal danger for democracies because it undermines the basis of civil harmony and tolerant public debate", he added.</p>

<p>"If this decision holds, it's really quite a radical decision," Biden told reporters in Washington as he departed on a trip to Alabama. "It's a fundamental shift in American jurisprudence."</p>

<p>"I believe that a woman's right to choose is fundamental," Biden said, referring to the landmark 1973 Supreme Court case Roe v Wade that declared abortion a constitutionally protected right.</p>

<p>Biden also called on Congress to enshrine legal abortion in US law. It is the only way of overcoming any Supreme Court ruling that the document apparently shows is set to be issued.</p>

<p>Black holes are an enigma. We can only theorise what happens inside this mysterious celestial structure but we don't know for sure as no one, or nothing from our planet has entered black hole and returned to tell the tale. Gravitational pull of black hole is so unimaginably powerful that even light, the fastest entity in the universe, cannot escape the grip of a black hole.</p>

<p>NASA and other space agencies across that world continuously study this cosmic wonder and post beautiful photos and videos for us to marvel at.</p>

The Clarion-Cliperton Zone in the Pacific Ocean is rich in manganese nodules. There are literally trillions of potato-sized manganese nodule on the seabed. However, global rules for industrial-scale deep sea mining are not set in place as of now but companies are expecting that rules and norms would be set as early as 2023. <p>Billionaire Elon Musk may well be on his way to finalise Twitter acquisition but industry experts are sceptical about future of the social media giant under the mercurial entrepreneur. So far Musk has not elaborated detailed plans about the platform. He also has not shared is vision fully other than saying that he is a free speech absolutist.</p>

<p>Musk has also voiced his enthusiasm for dialing &nbsp;back content moderation to a legal minimum and making money from subscriptions</p>

<p>"Other than advocating free speech, Musk hasn't articulated a vision of what the platform can be," Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi told AFP.</p>

<p>"He hasn't said if Twitter has an age issue, a geographic skew, who is the biggest competitor -- what else he is thinking."</p>

<p>Twitter currently depends on ads for revenue. Musk is toying with the idea of doing away with the advertising model and instead relying on subscriptions. This according to &nbsp;Baird Equity Research analyst Colin Sebastian does not appeal feasible.</p>

<p>"Elon Musk has floated the idea of ditching the ad revenue model," Sebastian said.</p>

<p>"We struggle to believe this will happen altogether, unless he plans to fund interest payments on debt out of his own pocket."</p>

<p>Analysts doubt that Twitter users would flock to pay for premium content or features such as retweeting posts when social media platforms such as Facebook are free of charge. Musk could try selling posts or asking other websites to pay for anything they use from tweets.</p>
