Bitcoin dipped below $20,000 on Saturday, continuing a drop that has taken it down nearly 60% from its year high.

Bitcoin, the world's biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, was last down 1.5% at $19,946 on Saturday, down $298 from its previous close.

It is down 58.7% from the year's high of $48,234 hit on March 28.

Ether, the coin linked to the ethereum blockchain network, also dipped 2.76 % to $1,467.2, losing $41.60 from its previous close.

Bitcoin's fall comes after a weak day on Friday for the currency, which fell as Wall Street slumped with all three benchmarks ending more than 3% lower.

The weakness in risk assets came after Federal Reserve Chief Jerome Powell cautioned against expecting a swift end to its rate tightening. The Fed's actions on interest rates has caused some investors to forecast more pain for equities.

"Bitcoin broke below 20,000 as investors expect a weekend full of pessimism from Jackson Hole to drag down sentiment," Edward Moya, senior market analyst at OANDA, said on Saturday.

"European and Asian central bankers will likely be much more pessimistic than Fed Chair Powell and that has many traders bracing for a weak open on Sunday night," he added.

Bitcoin was last below $20,000 in mid-July.

"We hope that France will reach the maturity to face its colonial past without blaming other countries, including our country, as soon as possible."

Macron's three-day visit to Algeria this week has aimed to turn the page on months of tensions with the North African country, which earlier this year marked six decades of independence following 132 years of French rule.&nbsp;

France's efforts for a thaw in relations also come&nbsp;at a point when the European powers&nbsp; are scrambling&nbsp;to replace Russian energy imports after the invasion of Ukraine -- including with supplies from Algeria, Africa's top gas exporter.

Turkiye hits back at Macron for his 'unacceptable' comments

It is not known whether his fiancee challenged him to do it, but a man burnt down the school after it became clear that the woman would fail the exams.

The incident took place in Gharbiya province of Egypt. As per report&nbsp;in The National News website, Egypt's prosecutor general said that a man was arrested near Cairo after he set fire to the school his fiancee was studying in.

The 21-year-old suspect reportedly told the police that he feared his marriage getting postponed due to his fiancee having to repeat the school year.

Fortunately, nobody was injured or killed in the fire, but damage to property was reportedly worth thousands of dollars.

The man fled the scene after setting fire to the building. However, he was spotted near the school by locals who relayed the information to the police who arrested the man.

Pope Francis appeals international community to help flood-hit Pakistan

Taliban defence minister Mohammed Yakoob Mujahid has accused Pakistan of providing airspace for US drones to enter Afghanistan. He characterised incursions by the drones as continuation of USA's 'invasion'. His comments came less than month after US President Joe Biden announced that al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri had been killed in Kabul in a drone strike. Mujahid said that US drones are seen flying over Kabul even now.

"Our information shows that they (US drones) are entering into Afghanistan from Pakistan, using the airspace of Pakistan," Mujahid told reporters when asked where the drones were coming from.

"We demand that Pakistan should not allow its airspace to be used against us."

There was no immediate reaction from Pakistan on Taliban's claims. Pakistan military has previously denied allowing use of the country's airspace.

"Deploying these drones in&nbsp;Afghanistan is still a clear invasion of Afghanistan and its airspace by the Americans,"&nbsp;Mujahid said.

"They are doing this shamelessly. We condemn this illegal act and demand that the Americans put an end to it."

After two decades of military campaign, US and other forces left Afghanistan last year. This paved way for the Taliban to recapture power in the country.

The drone attack in July that killed Osama bin Laden's successor Zawahiri&nbsp;was the first known strike by the US on a target in Afghanistan since Washington withdrew its forces from the country on August 31 last year.

Mujahid said the authorities were investigating Biden's claims of killing Zawahiri.

"We will share the details when it is complete," he said.

Taliban have still neither confirmed Zawahiri's presence in Afghanistan nor acknowledged his death.

Pakistan providing airspace to US drones for entering Afghanistan: Taliban

Local media in Colombia on &nbsp;Saturday (August 28) said that the Church had released names of 26 priests who were investigated for alleged sexual abuse of minors.

The Archdiocese of Medellin revealed the list of those accused between 1995 and 2019 in response to a court ruling in favour of Juan Pablo Barrientos.

Barrientos is a journalist investigating an alleged network of pedophile clergy.

"Most of these priests ... were suspended for a little while, and went back to being priests again," said Barrientos, who has been investigating sexual assaults by priests for years, in a video released Saturday.

Barrientos managed to get judges to accept his request and force the Archdiocese of Medellin to make the list public.

On Thursday, the prosecution received 14 complaints. The sexual abuses were committed years ago.

Monsignor Ricardo Tobon, Archbishop of Medellin, said that the institution wants to "show transparency, commitment to the truth and that there is no purpose of cover-up."&nbsp;

In a video posted on the Archdiocese's Twitter account, the religious figure accused Barrientos of "an aggressive smear campaign against the Church."

According to the journalist, the Church divulged the names "because the Constitutional Court has forced it to do so."

In 2019, Barrientos published the book "Let the children come to me," an investigation into pederasty and cover-up within the clergy in the South American country, where most people are Roman Catholic.&nbsp;

Colombia: Catholic Church releases list of 26 alleged pedophile priests

Facebook has agreed "in principle", to settle the Cambridge Analytica lawsuit that claims damages from the social media company for allegedly giving third parties access to personal data of millions of users. As per a document filed by Facebook in a San Francisco court, the company said that it was submitting a draft "agreement in principle" and has requested a stay of proceedings for 60 days to finalize it. Facebook hasn't disclosed any amount or terms of the agreement.

AFP quoted Facebook as saying that the company had "no comment to share at this time."

The development has come up as date of court testimony of Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg approaches. He and Facebook's former chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg are due to testify in court in September.

Facebook hints at settlement in Cambridge Analytica lawsuit

French President Emmanuel Macron and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Saturday declared "new, irreversible dynamic of progress" between the two countries. The pact concluded Macron's Algeria visit that was aimed at alleviating months of tensions between the nations.

The three-day visit comes less than two months after Algeria marked six decades of independence following 132 years of French rule and a devastating eight-year war.

Macron's visit was also significant as it came amid European scramble to secure energy as Russia squeezes supply. Algeria is Africa's top gas exporter. With pact with France, Algeria is looking to expand its clout in North Africa and in the Sahel region.

In their joint declaration on Saturday, the two leaders said "France and Algeria have decided to open a new era ... laying the foundation for a renewed partnership expressed through a concrete and constructive approach, focused on future projects and youth."

At the signing ceremony, Algerian President Tebboune addressed Macron in French during which, he hailed Macron's visit as "excellent, successful visit... which &nbsp;allowed for a rapprochement which wouldn't have been possible without the personality of President Macron himself."

United Nations' Libya mission has appealed for 'an immediate cessation of hostilities &nbsp;citing "ongoing armed clashes including indiscriminate medium and heavy shelling in civilian-populated neighbourhoods". The UN said that the clashes had damaged hospitals.

The US embassy in Libya said it was "very concerned" about the clashes.

Oussama Ali, a spokesman for Tripoli's ambulance service, told Al-Ahrar television that an unknown number of civilians had been wounded but that his service was "having difficulties moving around".

Local media reported fatalities but no official toll has been released.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has posted a pic of aurora. Aurora australis to be specific. Aurora australis is visible from places close to Earth's South Pole, particularly from Tasmania and New Zealand. NASA has posted image of aurora australis taken from International Space Station (ISS).

The space agency has posted the image on its Instagram account.

The image shows a splendid play of colours. The aurora is mainly green in colour, but assumes a pink-red hue at its reaches away from the Earth.&nbsp;

"The vibrant displays of light around Earth's North and South Poles are caused by the interaction of solar particles, ejected by the Sun, and our planet's protective magnetic field," NASA's Instagram post of the image describes.

During large solar storms, the post continues, "the Sun spews large bubbles of electrified gas which collide with our magnetic field at its North and South Poles and enter our atmosphere ... these energized solar particles collide with atmospheric gases resulting in beautiful displays of light."

At the time of publishing of this story, the image has got more than 1 million likes on Instagram.
