<p>Pakistan in 2023 witnessed a distressing surge in suicide attacks, marking the highest level since 2014, as per the latest report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). &nbsp;</p>

<p>The data revealed that nearly half of the deaths caused by these suicide attacks targeted security forces.</p>

<p>To be specific, 48 per cent of these deaths and 58 per cent of injuries were inflicted upon security personnel, Pakistan's local media outlet Dawn reported while citing the PICSS report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Addressing concerns about the severity of various Omicron subvariants, Dr Arora reassured that none have demonstrated increased severity.</p>

<p>"Every week you hear something new coming up in different parts and then it spreads all over India. We have identified a large number of subvariants, over 400 subvariants, or mutations of this virus, and fortunately, none of these Omicron variants have really been associated with more severe disease or hospitalisation," he stated.</p>

<p>Despite a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in India, with Kerala reporting the majority, Dr Arora urged vigilance over panic.</p>

<p>Pentagon, speaking on the incident of reported drone attack on Japanese-owned "Israel-affiliated" chemical tanker MV Chem Pluto, off the coast of India on Saturday (Dec 23) told WION that it was "fired from Iran."</p>

<p>In a statement to WION, Pentagon said that the attack occurred at approximately 10 am local time in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles from the coast of India. It said that the "motor vessel CHEM PLUTO, a Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned, and Netherlands-operated chemical tanker" was hit by "a one-way attack drone fired from Iran."</p>

<p>"No U.S. Navy vessels were in the vicinity. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command remains in communication with the vessel as it continues toward a destination in India," the statement said adding, "This is the seventh Iranian attack on commercial shipping&nbsp;since&nbsp;2021.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>A maritime security firm, Ambrey, reportedly said that the ship was "Israel-affiliated" and was en route from Saudi Arabia to India. The Dutch company operating the vessel reportedly has connections to Israeli shipping tycoon Idan Ofer, The Wall Street Journal reported.</p>
