<p>The first tranche of ₹ 45,000 crore ($5.36 billion) worth of 20 blocks of critical and strategic minerals has been put up for auction on November 29 for prospective bidders by the Indian Ministry of Mines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi while launching the auction process said, "We have identified a total of 100 blocks for auction. Of these, 20 are being offered in the first tranche and the auction for the others will take place in due course."&nbsp;</p>

<p>These 20 blocks which have been put under the hammer are located in different parts of the country.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Spread across the nation</strong></h2>

<p>The blocks are located in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>As per reports, composite licences will be issued for 16 of them and mining licences will be provided for the remaining four.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Composite licences are usually provided for those areas where preliminary exploration has already been conducted by the government, however, there is still a need for exploration. Meanwhile, the mining licenses are for those areas where there is a verified minerals reserve.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The future global economy will be underpinned by technologies that depend on minerals such as lithium, graphite, cobalt, titanium and rare earth elements (REE). India has committed to achieve 50 per cent of cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030. Such ambitious plan for energy transition is set to drive the demand for electric cars, wind and solar energy projects and battery storage systems thereby increasing the demand for these critical minerals," the ministry said.</p>

<p>Israel is investigating to verify Hamas'&nbsp;claims that the youngest Israeli hostage ten-month-old baby Kfir Babis who was held by the Islamist militant group has been killed. Unconfirmed media reports quoting Hamas said that the baby was killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike before the truce.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hamas' armed wing Al-Qassam Brigades made the claims, to which Israel reacted saying that it is still verifying the reports.&nbsp;The militant group failed to provide any evidence supporting its claims over the killing of the baby.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an even more shocking development, the group said that the baby's mother 30-year-old mother Shiri Silberman-Babis and four-year-old brother Ariel, were also killed in the Israeli bombardment.</p>

<p>It claimed that the incident took place before the truce, which came into effect on November 24 and was further extended by two days to facilitate&nbsp;release of more Israeli hostages being held captive.&nbsp;</p>

UNSC in 1981, decided that the "Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 1981 resolution came after Israel Knesset on December 14, 1981, passed the Golan Heights Law.</p>

<p>At the time, the resolution termed Israel the "occupying power" and urged that the country "should rescind forthwith its decision."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 1981 resolution also reaffirmed that the acquisition of territory by force is "inadmissible, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, the principles of international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions."&nbsp;</p>

India votes in favour of UNGA resolution calling on Israel to withdraw from Syria's Golan Heights

<p>As Islamabad High Court is set to hear Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan's appeals against the Toshakhana case verdict, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) declared on Wednesday (Nov 29) that the ex-premiere would not be contesting intra-party polls set for December 2 until a final decision in the matter has been taken.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The court is scheduled to hear Khan's appeals against the Toshakhana case he is convicted in on Thursday (Nov 30). A verdict in the case earlier&nbsp;disqualified Imran Khan from contesting in elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PTI’s barrister Ali Zafar on Wednesday (Nov 29) clarified that Khan would not throw his hat in the intra-party polls.</p>

<p>Making another announcement, Zafar said that Barrister Gohar Khan had been nominated for the post in what he dubbed a “temporary arrangement".</p>

<p>PTI member Zafar also vehemently defended Khan saying that not declaring Toshakhana gifts should not call for his disqualification from the elections.</p>

<p>Moreover, he also vowed that PTI will be vigilant over any possible “illegal or unconstitutional” step by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) pertaining to the party symbol or in connection to any decision over the fate of candidates' nominations.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The comments came days after a warning by the poll body to PTI which cautioned that the bat elections symbol will be taken away in case the intra-polls are not held within a timeframe of three weeks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The sentence was suspended on August 29, 2023 however at the time Khan's legal aide said that a final decision is yet to be taken.&nbsp;This was again clarified by Zafar who spoke to media personnel outside the ECP office.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While quoting Imran, who is in Attock district jail in Pakistan's Punjab Province, Zafar said that the former premier did not want to give the ECP any “excuse” for not giving the party the bat symbol or on being an obstruction in nomination of candidates, Dawn reported.&nbsp;</p>
