Three drones launched by Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, that were headed towards an offshore gas field in the Mediterranean were intercepted by the Israeli army on Saturday.

"Three hostile drones approaching the airspace in Israel's economic waters have been intercepted," the army said in a statement, as reported by AFP, adding that the drones were headed towards the Karish gas field, which is partly claimed by Lebanon. The drones were not armed and did not pose a risk.

The time for the public to weigh in on our future is now."

The release of the document, which is mandated by Congress, came a day after the expiration of the previous plan, and late in the day ahead of the three-day July Fourth holiday weekend.

First cases of diphtheria of the throat have been diagnosed in New South Wales this century, a toddler is in intensive care and a second child has been hospitalised after contracting the disease. 
Diphtheria is a contagious and potentially deadly bacterial infection. It affects the throat and tonsils in its most severe form, resulting in a greyish-white membrane forming that can make it hard to swallow and breathe.

The North Coast Public Health Unit confirmed the case in a two-year-old child in northern NSW on Saturday. On Sunday, a six-year-old described as a “close family contact” was also confirmed to have the infection. The infection can also cause the neck to swell, according to NSW Health, while the toxin formed by bacteria can cause inflammation of the heart muscle and nerves.

As reported by The Guardian, the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) claims there are dozens of couriers for Stuart in cities across the country, from Exeter to Leeds, who have lost their jobs this way. Those who spoke to the Observer described their hurt at this treatment and anxiety about their ability to pay rent, bills and basic expenses as the cost of living continues to rise.

Alex Marshall, president of the IWGB, said the cases were “among the more egregious examples of a gig economy that is increasingly squeezing workers as much as possible and then just dropping them without any accountability. “The decision to use this GPS system is about cutting costs for Stuart but the ramifications for couriers are huge,” he suggested.

In the email seen by the Observer, Stuart told Odawa that several of his deliveries had been “flagged for severe delays caused by excessive detours”, including three order numbers listed in the email.

The decision handed power back to the states to make their own rules on abortion, and up to half are expected to ban or severely restrict it. Others have declared themselves abortion "sanctuaries" and vowed to protect the right, as well as other rights such as gay marriage which progressives now fear are in the court's sights.

Seabird reserves in northeast England and Scotland have been closed to visitors after a suspected outbreak of bird flu, officials said on Friday.

The decision to close the Farne Islands, a popular draw for tourists who come to see puffins close up, was made after several hundred seabirds died on nearby Coquet Island.

Farne Islands general manager Simon Lee said seabirds that nest in dense colonies, such as Arctic terns, were vulnerable as they return to breed.

"Our ranger teams work tirelessly to monitor and protect these colonies but due to finding significant numbers of dead birds, we simply have no other choice but to close the islands."

Coquet Island home to Britain's only breeding colony of roseate terns&nbsp;is some 20 miles south of the main Farne Islands, off the coast of Northumberland, in northeast England.

Both are managed by the National Trust conservation charity.&nbsp;

Some 45,000 people visit the islands on boat trips every year to see up to 23 species of seabirds, as well as colonies of grey seals.

The windswept islands are home to some 200,000 seabirds including guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, and shags along with the Arctic terns and puffins.

The effect of the disease on the colonies could be devastating due to many species having low reproduction rates, Lee said.

Many of the birds that nest on the islands, such as the vulnerable Atlantic puffin, are already experiencing huge pressures due to climate change with warming sea temperatures impacting food stocks.

Lee said closure "will reduce the risk of disturbance on the birds, which will hopefully help at least slow down the spread of the disease during this breeding period before they leave the islands in late summer to continue their annual migratory cycle".

Visitors will no longer be permitted to land on the Farnes from Sunday, although boat trips will still be allowed.

The disease was first discovered in UK domestic bird populations last winter and is now affecting wild birds, with infection proving fatal, according to The National Trust.

It is spread when birds come into direct contact with an infected bird, faeces, body fluids or indirectly via food and water.

The Isle of May and Noss National Nature Reserves in Scotland were closed to public landings from Friday to protect vulnerable seabird populations from the H5N1 strain of avian flu, Scotland's natural heritage body NatureScot said.

The latest jump in Covid cases comes after an earlier increase of about 40% last month, following the large street parties, concerts and festivities held to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations marking 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
