A small ski area in Vermont has announced that it’s retiring its name, Suicide Six, this summer amid growing concerns about the insensitive nature of the historical name, as reported by AP.

The resort said on its website on Tuesday that it shares those concerns and “embraces the increasing awareness surrounding mental health.”

“The feelings that the word ‘suicide’ evokes can have a significant impact on many in our community,” the resort statement said, as reported by AP.

The resort’s website said the name originally came after the man who built one of the runs on Hill No. 6 joked that skiing the steep trail would be suicide.

“The Suicide Six Ski Area has an enduring legacy spanning nearly nine decades, and it is vital that the name better represents and celebrates what makes it a beloved and vibrant part of this community,” the website said.

A new name will be announced in the coming weeks for the ski area in South Pomfret, near Woodstock, which opened in 1936 and is home to the Fisk Trophy Race, a rite of passage for competitive skiers, according to the resort’s website.

China reported zero new Covid-19 infections in Shanghai and Beijing for the first time since March on Thursday, as the country's latest outbreak subsides after months of lockdowns and other restrictions.

The two major cities were among several places in China that implemented curbs to stop the spread of the Omicron wave from March to May, with Shanghai imposing a two-month-long city-wide lockdown that lifted on June 1.

The efforts, part of China's adherence to a zero-COVID policy that aims to eradicate all outbreaks, have brought case numbers down but many of the heavy-handed measures have fuelled anger and even rare protests and taken a heavy toll on the economy.

Beijing shut its schools in early May and asked students to move to online learning amid a spike in locally transmitted COVID cases. Senior year students at middle and high schools were allowed to return to classrooms from June 2.&nbsp;

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports said separately that sports activities for the young can resume at non-school locations on June 27 in areas where no community cases have been reported for seven consecutive days, with the exception of basement venues, which will remain shut.

The Universal Beijing Resort, which had been closed for nearly two months, reopened on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Shanghai reported no new local cases - both symptomatic and asymptomatic - for June 24, the first time the Chinese economic hub had done so since Feb. 23.

As reported by Reuters, Shanghai Communist Party chief Li Qiang said at the opening of the city's party congress on Saturday that authorities had "won the war to defend Shanghai" against COVID by implementing the instructions of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and that Beijing's epidemic prevention decisions were "completely correct".&nbsp;

These aircraft are currently in "deep storage" in Spain and France. The German flag carrier says it's still assessing how many A380s will be reactivated, and is figuring out what routes they might fly on.

He came to Paris with the help of a support group, the Agency of Artists in Exile, and was joined by his boyfriend soon after.&nbsp;

The agency set up a hotline for artists from both Ukraine and Russia following the invasion and has helped around 100 artists from the two countries, providing them with studio space, as well as help with visas, language training and psychological support.&nbsp;

As he plays Rachmaninov -- a Russian composer -- in one of the agency's practice rooms, Alexei says he is relieved but daunted.&nbsp;

In a massive prisoner exchange, 144 soldiers, most former defenders of the Azovstal steelworks in the southern port city of Mariupol, had been freed in a prisoner swap with Moscow on Wednesday, Ukrainian officials said, as reported by AFP.

"This is the largest exchange since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion," the main intelligence directorate of Ukraine's defence ministry said on Telegram. "Of the 144 freed, 95 are Azovstal defenders," he added.&nbsp;

It did not specify when and where the swap took place or how many Russian prisoners were released as part of the exchange. But Pro-Russian separatist leader Denis Pushilin said 144 soldiers from Russia and the Donetsk People's Republic -- the name of the breakaway region recognised by Moscow -- had "returned home".

The Ukrainian ministry statement said most of their exchanged soldiers had been seriously wounded by bullets or shell fragments, while others were suffering from burns and fractures.&nbsp;

It said that 43 of the freed servicemen belonged to the Azov regiment, a former paramilitary unit that is now integrated into the Ukrainian army.&nbsp;

After it was ordered to shut down by authorities ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte's last day in office, Philippine journalist Maria Ressa's news company Rappler was continuing to work "as usual", the Nobel Peace Prize winner said on Wednesday, as reported by AFP.

Ressa has been a vocal critic of Duterte and the deadly drug war he launched in 2016, triggering what media advocates say is a grinding series of criminal charges, probes and online attacks against her and Rappler. The latest blow was delivered by the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission.&nbsp;

In a statement Wednesday, it confirmed the "revocation of the certificates of incorporation" of Rappler for violating "constitutional and statutory restrictions on foreign ownership in mass media".

Rappler said the decision &nbsp;"effectively confirmed the shutdown" of the company and vowed to appeal, describing the proceedings as "highly irregular". But Ressa was characteristically defiant, vowing the news site would continue to operate as they followed the legal process.
