Lee remarked that removing the colonial era Section 377A of the Penal Code was the "right thing to do which most Singaporeans will now accept".&nbsp;

He also added that the repeal of section 377A “will bring the law into line with current social mores, and I hope, provide some relief to gay Singaporeans".&nbsp;

While gay sex between private consenting men has been decriminalised, the Singaporean government has also moved a motion to&nbsp;amend the constitution to ban marriage equality.&nbsp;Meaning, same-sex marriage continues to be prohibited in the country as various religious groups consider marriage a union between a man and a woman.&nbsp;

Terming the dual move a&nbsp;“political accommodation that balances different legitimate views and aspirations among Singaporeans”, PM Lee added:&nbsp;"For most, their main worry is what they feel Section 377A stands for, and what they fear repealing it may quickly lead to. With these concerns in mind, the government will fortify the country’s current legal definition of marriage: under the law, only marriages between one man and woman are recognised in the city state."

What is Section 377 A?

The British era law, Section 377A of the Penal Code&nbsp;criminalised&nbsp;sex between men in the former British colony. It came into force in 1938 after being adapted from a similar law in the Indian Penal Code. It is pertinent to note that India decriminalised gay sex, way back in October 2018.&nbsp;

According to UK Biobank, the data is shared under its anonymised, transparent and non-discriminatory open-access policy for studies related to cancer, depression and even Covid-19.

When quizzed about the security of the data, UK Biobank claimed it had&nbsp;“stringent controls” in place including “rigorous access and ethics checks”.

It is pertinent to note that the UK Biobank Project, launched in 2006 and partly funded by the department of health, stores in-depth genetic information of close to half a million Britons. This data can easily be misused to cause damage.

From 2012 to 2019, during the peak of UK-China medical collaborations,&nbsp;China gained access to much of UK Biobank's database. However, after the geopolitical equations realigned, the experts in the UK have been urging the government to stop the sharing of data, even if for collaborative research purposes.

Professor Yves Moreau, a geneticist,&nbsp;warned caution over the sharing of data and stated that the UK needed to be watchful.&nbsp;

“We are totally unprepared for a situation where an institution and national authorities would support the misconduct of the scientist.&nbsp;It’s about being watchful, and looking into the issue to find a proper balance, so we don’t wake up in 10 years and realise, ‘Oh, what did we do?,’” he was quoted as saying by The Guardian.&nbsp;

For an arrangement that relies heavily on the tenets of sharing detailed private medical information of individuals, the UK could not have picked a worse partner than China.

Moreover, it includes the money spent on learning extracurricular activities and celebrating different childhood milestones. “A lot of people are going to think twice before they have either a first child or a subsequent child because everything is costing more. You also may feel like you have to work more.” said Isabel Sawhill, a senior fellow at the institute. It is pertinent to note that the earlier figure stood at $233,610, as released by the US Department of Agriculture in 2015. A little more than a month after China's National Bureau of Statistics released its report stating that the Chinese economy had only grown by a tiny 0.4 per cent in the second quarter, Goldman Sachs and Nomura have downgraded China's growth forecast as well.

Reportedly, the American company cut China's growth forecast by 0.3 per cent from 3.3 per cent to 3 per cent. Meanwhile,&nbsp;Nomura lowered its projections from 3.3 per cent to 2.8 per cent.

“Beijing will likely do more to arrest the slowdown, but rolling out a comprehensive stimulus package is of low probability in a year of government reshuffle, while the need for maintaining zero Covid makes conventional stimulus measures much less effective,” said Nomura in a statement.&nbsp;

Chinese leaders are not even discussing GDP projections

The dip in forecast also stems from the fact that the Chinese authorities&nbsp;believe that the country will miss&nbsp;the target of 5.5 per cent economic growth by the year-end. Such has been the situation that in a recent quarterly economic meeting between the Politburo members, the&nbsp;5.5 per cent GDP growth target was not mentioned.&nbsp;

Kim Jong Un's sister rejects South Korea's economic assistance plan; will not give up nukes

In what comes as a small victory for Donald Trump and his legion of Republican supporters, a Florida federal judge on Thursday ordered that portions of the affidavit that the FBI used to secure&nbsp;a search warrant against the former US president can be made public, much to the chagrin of the department of justice (DOJ).

Judge Bruce Reinhart in his observation after the hearing said,&nbsp;“I believe, at least on my initial careful review of the affidavit, that there are portions that could be presumptively unsealed.”

The&nbsp;DOJ lawyers have time till next Thursday i.e., seven days to submit the&nbsp;affidavit with the redacted portions. Moreover, the judge added that the justice department will be allowed to appeal if it doesn't agree with his 'redacted' affidavit idea.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, DOJ chief Jay Bratt during the hearing stated that the release of the affidavit could harm the witnesses.

“The government is very concerned about the safety of the witnesses in these cases and the impact of all the attention on these witnesses on other witnesses,” Bratt told the judge.&nbsp;

Who has filed the motion?

It is pertinent to note that&nbsp;New York Times, CNN, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and The&nbsp;Associated Press are among the outlets that have demanded the release of the affidavit.

However, curiously enough, despite blaming the FBI and DOJ for launching a witch hunt against him, neither Trump nor his lawyers have filed any motion for the unsealing of the affidavit.&nbsp;

Why is US DOJ not unsealing the affidavit?

As reported by WION, on Monday, the justice department refused to unseal the affidavit, stating it would likely affect the investigation process.

"If disclosed, the affidavit would serve as a roadmap to the government's ongoing investigation, providing specific details about its direction and likely course, in a manner that is highly likely to compromise future investigative steps," the DoJ lawyers wrote in the filing.

A contrast in action from the DOJ

The decision to not unseal the affidavit was in stark contrast with the confidence shown by Attorney General&nbsp;Merrick Garland, who, in a rather unusual stance, publicly announced that he was willing to unseal the search warrant.

Even when questioned during his brief presser last week, Garland did not give much regarding the 'evidence' submitted in the affidavit used to obtain the warrant.

“Much of our work is by necessity conducted out of the public eye. We do that to protect the constitutional rights of all Americans and to protect the integrity of our investigations," said&nbsp;Garland.&nbsp;

According to the warrant released, the FBI is circling Trump, mainly around the Espionage Act after the former President took several boxes from White House to his current Florida residence after losing the elections.

"Interest in a union does not exempt partners from following policies that are in place to protect partners, our customers and the communities we serve.” added the spokesperson.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the seven Starbucks baristas had attempted to unionise the Memphis branch of the company and were promptly fired.
