"All these territories are inalienable parts of the Russian Federation and they are all protected. Their security is provided for at the same level as [it is for] the rest of Russia's territory," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the reporters. Globally, the number of people thinking climate change posed a “very serious threat" to their country stood at 48.7 per cent in 2021 which was a fall of 1.5 percentage points, compared to a similar survey conducted by Gallup World Risk Poll in 2019.

People in China&nbsp;who think on the same lines have&nbsp;come down to 20 per cent, a full three percentage points down from the previous findings. Incidentally, China is the world's biggest polluter.&nbsp;

As for the US, the second biggest polluter globally, climate change awareness rose slightly amongst the masses to 51.5 per cent.&nbsp;

Four men who went missing in the Okmulgee area of Oklahoma in the USA last week have been found dead. The investigation which started off as a missing person case has now turned into a full-blown murder probe as the four middle-aged men have been found dismembered in a local river.&nbsp;

Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice&nbsp;said he hadn't seen a case involving such a level of violence in his career so far.

"I've worked over 80 murders in my career. I have worked murders involving multiple victims. I have worked dismemberments, but this case involves the highest number of victims, and it's a very violent event."

Prior to the incident, the men had gathered at Billy Chastain's home before leaving from there on bicycles at around 9 pm. The families lodged a missing person complaint on Monday night or early Tuesday.&nbsp;

According to the police, the males&nbsp;were planning to commit a crime before they left. However, what adds more mystery to the case is the fact that a person whom police spoke to in connection with the cases has gone missing since Saturday night.&nbsp;

Prentice added the said person might be suicidal and that no charges had been brought against him&nbsp;up until now.&nbsp;

European Union is grappling with an economic conundrum. According to a Eurostat report released on Wednesday, inflation hit an average of 10.9 per cent across the 27-nation bloc in September, up&nbsp;0.8 per cent from the record set in August.&nbsp;

The report by the EU's statistics office added that the annual rate of inflation in the Eurozone was 9.9 per cent in September, compared to 9.1 per cent in August.&nbsp;

With the winter season fast approaching and utility bills soaring, inflation has gone up manifolds. Most of the countries across Europe do not have energy reserves that can last them the entire season.&nbsp;

Thus, inflation is expected to rapidly climb in the coming weeks. The banks have been increasing interest rates to arrest the slide but so far, it has had little to no influence on the ground.&nbsp;

The EU leaders on Tuesday convened and proposed a $39.2 billion package to aid small and medium-sized firms battling the energy crisis. However, it ought to be an entirely different conversation if the proposal receives the nod of all 27 countries.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, former EU member, Britain's inflation rose to a 40-year high in September, rising above 10 per cent on soaring food prices, official data released on Wednesday revealed. The September rate matched the level in July and is the highest in 40 years as a result also of sky-high energy bills. "I understand that families across the country are struggling with rising prices and higher energy bills," Britain's new finance minister Jeremy Hunt said in a separate statement. Most of the countries across Europe do not have energy reserves that can last them the entire season. Thus, inflation is expected to rapidly climb in the coming weeks. The banks have been increasing interest rates to arrest the slide but so far, it has had little to no influence on the ground. The EU leaders on Tuesday convened and proposed a $39.2 billion package to aid small and medium-sized firms battling the energy crisis. The request for a new trial by Holmes' lawyers comes days before the court was expected to announce her sentencing. Reportedly,&nbsp;Adam Rosendorff, former lab director at Theranos appeared at Holmes' home in August and apologised for his role in the entire incident.

Consequently, together with some new evidence and&nbsp;Rosendorff's apology, Holmes approached the court and requested a hearing to assess her new trial request.

After being sentenced to 12 months in prison in March, earlier this year for sending death threats to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Michael Cruickshank has had his conviction overturned.

Reportedly, the court on Tuesday ruled that&nbsp;Cruickshank made the death threats when being intoxicated and had no recollection of doing the same. The court placed emphasis on the 'intent' which, according to judge Simon France, Cruickshank lacked.&nbsp;

“The defence was that Mr Cruickshank had no recollection of sending [the death threats], but if he did send them he lacked the necessary intent primarily because of intoxication. There can be no issue that intoxication was at the heart of the defence."

Explaining the decision, the judge said that the jury thought there had been a miscarriage of justice because the uncertainty around the defendant's intent meant his threats could not have been real. No retrial has been ordered in the case either.&nbsp;

Cruickshank, in police interviews also maintained that he was too wasted to remember anything, “To be perfectly frank I do not remember sending any emails...I was absolutely wasted so it’s possible I could’ve.”

While&nbsp;Cruickshank may have gotten away with 'intoxication' as an excuse, the public is questioning whether he was drunk the entire time when he sent&nbsp;88 emails over the course of four months to government officials.&nbsp;

As for Ardern, her popularity amongst the masses has dipped to new lows after receiving sky-high ratings at the beginning of the pandemic for her rather stellar response. Ardern recently received more flak for attempting to tax the burps of cows and sheep to cut methane emissions.&nbsp;

Guerrilla attacks and forced disappearances were daily facts of life on both sides of the Himalayan republic’s decade-long Maoist insurgency. The conflict ended in 2006 with a peace deal that brought the rebels into government and promised justice for those who had suffered in the fighting. But 16 years after the war ended, civilian courts have handed down just two convictions for civil war-era crimes, while rape survivors are frustrated that their traumas have been met with official indifference. After years of waiting for redress, they are now sharing their experiences in a demand for recognition. “They have failed to even mention our cases,” Mira, who asked to use a pseudonym, told AFP. “The least they could do is recognise that these incidents happened.” Mira was just 12 years old in 1999 when she was arrested for participating in a cultural outreach programme run by the Maoist rebels. She spent months in custody, during which she said she suffered repeated rapes at the hands of officers who also beat her mercilessly. “I was beyond recognition. My face was swollen, my body was swollen,” she said. “My womb keeps hurting, my body keeps hurting, I still have to take medicines.” More than 17,000 people were killed and many thousands more were forced to flee their homes before the 2006 peace deal. The settlement included the promise of impartial investigations of wartime atrocities. But it did not include provisions for survivors of sexual violence, who were less willing to report their experiences, and who were also left out of an interim compensation scheme for conflict victims. “Incidents of rape had taken place during the 10-year war. The government must admit this, and address this,” Devi Khadka, coordinator of the National Organisation of Conflict Rape Victims, told AFP. The civil war had just begun in 1997 when Khadka, then a teenager, was herself raped by security forces in custody, she said. She joined the Maoist insurgency, rising steadily through the ranks, and has served in parliament, but battled depression for years. “I stayed silent for a long time, for many reasons. But no one else spoke up. I felt I had to raise my voice for all of us,” she said. 'How will we punish them?' Nepali society traditionally ties chastity to the honour of women and their households, and the stigma of rape often compels victims to keep silent. Already suffering from physical and mental trauma, those that do come forward are often ostracised by their families and struggle to support themselves. “What we need is support for our livelihood, for our health and for our children’s future,” said Reenu, who was raped by Maoist soldiers during the conflict. She added that the immediate needs of victims were a bigger priority than bringing perpetrators to justice. “Many women don’t even know who wronged them, so how will we punish them?” she asked. Nepal’s two transitional justice commissions began operations in 2015 but have failed to resolve a single case, despite receiving over 60,000 complaints of murders, torture and unexplained disappearances. More than 300 cases of rape and sexual violence have been registered by the commission, but activists say the formal reports are a small fraction of the true total. Survivors are reluctant to come forward because the government has failed to “create a secure environment” for them to do so, said Mandira Sharma, a senior legal adviser for the International Commission of Jurists. “But these are serious crimes,” she told AFP. “The state is obligated to take action against the perpetrator.” 'Scared to give us justice' Critics say Nepal’s truth and reconciliation process has been poorly designed from the outset and plagued by chronic funding shortfalls. It also lacks political support to proceed, with former Maoist rebels and political leaders among those blamed for presiding over wartime atrocities now in government ranks. The finance minister in June announced a financial support programme for wartime survivors of sexual violence, the first compensation of its kind. But months after the announcement, not a single victim has received any money. “The older this conflict gets, the more problems for women like me,” a 33-year-old woman who said she was raped by security forces as a teenager told AFP. “The government is aware that women and children suffered sexual violence in the war,” she said. “But it is scared to give us justice. The man, who the police refused to name, is 62 years old while the Black man is 24 years old. The less-than-10-minute video posted on October 10 and shared across social media platforms, garnering thousands of views in the process, shows a white man grabbing a Black man's throat with a hand.
