<p>The prosecutors in Karlsruhe said the seven suspects acted as financial intermediaries and played a "central role" in the fundraising group. Since 2020, using the Telegram messaging service, they had been appealing for contributions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least $71,552 were transferred using this way and went to support IS members imprisoned in Syria. The money also allowed them to escape from detention in some cases.</p>

<p>Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has opposed former president Donald Trump's request to transfer the Stormy&nbsp;Daniels "hush money" case to a federal court. Bragg's office said Trump did have the right to persuade a change in venue as he is not a federal officer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Trump's lawyers had moved the court saying the case "involved important federal questions" and that some of the conduct occurred when he was in office.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Defendant was charged by a New York county grand jury with New York crimes for falsifying the business records of private New York enterprises while reimbursing his personal lawyer for a pre-election expenditure," Bragg said in the filing. "He does not plausibly meet the required elements to justify removal to federal court."</p>

<p>Ahead of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) summit scheduled to be held later this year in Dubai, its President Sultan Al Jaber has found himself in the middle of a controversy. A Guardian report has claimed that members of Jaber's team edited Wikipedia pages to 'control the narrative'&nbsp;amid criticism of an oil boss leading the main summit aimed at tackling climate crisis.</p>

<p>The government of UAE, on whose soil the climate summit will take place, controls six per cent of the world's oil reserves. The country with heavy reliance on fossil fuel is needed to take a non-controversial line when hosting the summit. However, it appointed Al Jaber - a fossil fuel boss - as the head of COP28.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the edited Wikipedia entries includes adding an editorial that said Al Jaber was “precisely the kind of ally the climate movement needs”.</p>

<p>The editors also removed reference to a multibillion-dollar oil pipeline deal.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Greenwashing in full effect</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, in 2019, Al Jaber signed a $4 billion deal with US investment giants BlackRock and KKR to develop the oil pipeline infrastructure. According to the Guardian, the particular page had too much detail about Al Jaber's involvement and thus it was edited to say he had simply attracted “international investment” in Adnoc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When quizzed about editing Wikipedia entries, an Adnos spokesperson said: “We are very proud of Dr Sultan’s achievements as a global energy leader and regularly review content to ensure accuracy. Update requests were submitted to Wikipedia in the spring and summer of 2022, which were fully transparent and compliant as per Wikipedia’s guidelines.”</p>

<p>Al Jaber's appointment as the chief of COP28 raised eyebrows, especially when his company Adnoc is contemplating a major expansion of UAE's fuel output. Despite the International Energy Agency's objection to the proposal, there has&nbsp;been no indication that the project will be stopped.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from Al Jaber's team, a member of the COP28 team has also been editing Wikipedia articles, despite being "strongly discouraged" from doing so by website administrators, the publication noted.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>COP28 issues rejoinder </strong></h2>

<p>After the report was published, COP28 reached out to WION and stated Al Jaber's page was absolutely accurate and that information about the posts he had handled were in the public domain.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Every business and public figure revisits Wikipedia pages and reviews the content to ensure that it is up to date and accurate. That is how this platform is built. Dr Al Jaber’s Wikipedia page represents his over 30-year career. Everything in his Wikipedia page is absolutely accurate," read the statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"COP process should not be politicised and turned into an impotent echo chamber that does not address the real needs of people affected by climate change," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>US, EU demand Al Jabar's resignation</strong></h2>

<p>Last week, over 130 US and European Union (EU) lawmakers wrote a letter, calling for Al Jabar's resignation as the COP28 chief.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Ahead of the annual climate negotiations, enacting policies that expose the influence of corporate polluters in UNFCCC meetings will help ensure that climate science takes precedence over climate delay and greenwashing. To that end, we urge you (i) to engage in diplomatic efforts to secure the withdrawal of the President-designate of COP28," read the letter.&nbsp;</p>

A Guardian report has claimed that members of Jaber's team edited Wikipedia pages to 'control the narrative' amid criticism of an oil boss leading the main summit aimed at tackling climate crisis. The government of UAE, on whose soil the climate summit will take place, controls six per cent of the world's oil reserves. The country with heavy reliance on fossil fuel is needed to take a non-controversial line when hosting the summit. However, it appointed Al Jaber - a fossil fuel boss - as the head of COP28. One of the edited Wikipedia entries includes adding an editorial that said Al Jaber was “precisely the kind of ally the climate movement needs”. The editors also removed reference to a multibillion-dollar oil pipeline deal. Greenwashing in full effect Notably, in 2019, Al Jaber signed a $4 billion deal with US investment giants BlackRock and KKR to develop the oil pipeline infrastructure. According to the Guardian, the particular page had too much detail about Al Jaber's involvement and thus it was edited to say he had simply attracted “international investment” in Adnoc. When quizzed about editing Wikipedia entries, an Adnos spokesperson said: “We are very proud of Dr Sultan’s achievements as a global energy leader and regularly review content to ensure accuracy. Update requests were submitted to Wikipedia in the spring and summer of 2022, which were fully transparent and compliant as per Wikipedia’s guidelines.” Al Jaber's appointment as the chief of COP28 raised eyebrows, especially when his company Adnoc is contemplating a major expansion of UAE's fuel output. Despite the International Energy Agency's objection to the proposal, there has been no indication that the project will be stopped. Apart from Al Jaber's team, a member of the COP28 team has also been editing Wikipedia articles, despite being "strongly discouraged" from doing so by website administrators, the publication noted. COP28 issues rejoinder After the report was published, COP28 reached out to WION and stated Al Jaber's page was absolutely accurate and that information about the posts he had handled were in the public domain. "Every business and public figure revisits Wikipedia pages and reviews the content to ensure that it is up to date and accurate. That is how this platform is built. Dr Al Jaber’s Wikipedia page represents his over 30-year career. Everything in his Wikipedia page is absolutely accurate," read the statement. "COP process should not be politicised and turned into an impotent echo chamber that does not address the real needs of people affected by climate change," it added. US, EU demand Al Jabar's resignation Last week, over 130 US and European Union (EU) lawmakers wrote a letter, calling for Al Jabar's resignation as the COP28 chief. "Ahead of the annual climate negotiations, enacting policies that expose the influence of corporate polluters in UNFCCC meetings will help ensure that climate science takes precedence over climate delay and greenwashing. To that end, we urge you (i) to engage in diplomatic efforts to secure the withdrawal of the President-designate of COP28," read the letter. <p>The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) - an autonomous body responsible for school education in India - has removed from its class 12 political science textbooks the references to 'Khalistan', the demand for a separate Sikh nation.</p>

<p>The move comes in response to&nbsp;Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) - the top religious body for Sikhs - lodging a protest for the same, saying the book&nbsp;misrepresented historical details about Sikhs.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The resolution also spoke of the aspirations of the Sikh community and declared its goal as attaining the ‘bolbala’ (dominance) of the Sikhs. The resolution was a plea for strengthening federalism, but it could also be interpreted as a plea for a separate Sikh nation," read the contentious paragraph&nbsp;in Chapter 6 – Regional Aspirations (Rationalised Class 12 political science textbook).&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to NCERT, after receiving SGPC's request, a committee of experts was constituted to examine the issue and it decided to withdraw the content.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The sentence, “the resolution was a plea for strengthening federalism but it could also be interpreted as a plea for a separate Sikh nation,” has&nbsp;been dropped and rewritten as “the resolution was a plea for strengthening federalism”.</p>

<p>Moreover, the line, “The more extreme elements started advocating secession from India and the creation of ‘Khalistan’” has been dropped.</p>

<h2><strong>What did SGPC demand?</strong></h2>

<p>Notably in April, SGPC said the Anandpur Sahib resolution adopted in 1973 by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had been interpreted as a "separatist resolution".&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The SGPC raises strong objection over the misinformation being spread about Sikhs. Historical references related to Sikhs have been distorted in NCERT books. Sikhs shouldn’t be presented as separatists. The text must be removed immediately,” said&nbsp;SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami at the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A woman who alleged that US President Joe Biden&nbsp;sexually assaulted her in 1993&nbsp;has sought Russian citizenship after defecting to the country. Biden's sexual assault accuser calls on Putin for Russian citizenship after defecting

<p>Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chief Imran Khan refused to appear before a&nbsp;Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the May 9 attack on Lahore's Jinnah House on Tuesday (May 30), citing grave security threats as the reason.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan was to appear before the JIT at 4&nbsp;pm but instead,&nbsp;sent a written response through his lawyers saying he had very limited time to respond to the summons he received a day before from the probe committee.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Given the severity of the security threats, unnecessary exposure can be avoided, apart from court hearings," he wrote in his response.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There are now reports from credible sources of another attack during public appearances in joining investigation," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan urged the probe team to conduct further questioning in the case at his Zaman Park residence instead of asking him to come to the headquarters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I am available in person at Zaman Park or absolutely willing to join the investigation through the method of video conferencing,” said Imran, adding,&nbsp;“Other than court hearings, I have not left my residence due to the severity of security threats."</p>

<p>The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it was working towards holding a board meeting with Pakistani authorities before a financing programme expires at the end of June.&nbsp;</p>

<p>IMF mission chief for Pakistan Nathan Porter made the statement, adding that the monetary body was keeping an eye on Islamabad's budget for the FY24. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"This engagement will focus on the restoration of foreign exchange proper market functioning, the passage of a FY24 budget consistent with programme goals, and adequate financing," said Porter.</p>

<p>"Overcoming the present economic and financial challenges would require sustained policy efforts and reforms for Pakistan to regain strong and inclusive private-led growth."</p>

<p>Notably, conducting a board meeting on the review of the programme would require a prior staff-level agreement. However, the deal has been delayed since November last year, the longest delay since at least 2008.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Pakistan willing to share budget details</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier, Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the government was willing to share details of the upcoming budget with the IMF to unlock stalled funds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The clips showed the Kensington neighbourhood — regarded as the ‘ground zero’ for the city’s drug crisis —purportedly filled with zombie-like addicts, who can be seen passed out on the streets. The clip was first shared by a user on TokTok, and then on Twitter.</p>

<p>In a statement last month, Philadelphia health officials said that the city has been massively impacted by the epidemic.</p>

<p>“Xylazine has hit Philadelphia particularly hard, causing increased overdose deaths as well as severe wounds that can lead to sepsis and amputation,” the Philadelphia Department of Health and Board of Health said, according to New York Post outlet.</p>

<p>Four people, including two Italian intelligence service officials and&nbsp;a former member of the Israeli security forces, died&nbsp;when a tourist boat capsized in Lake Maggiore, northern Italy on Monday (May 29).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident took place near&nbsp;Lisanza at the southern end of the lake and a Russian woman, identified as the wife of the boat captain, also died. The 16-metre-long boat carrying 25 people lost control after the weather suddenly turned stormy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The bodies of four people have been recovered," fire brigade spokesman Luca Cari was quoted as saying by AFP news agency.</p>

<p>Though most of the passengers and crew managed to escape and later swim to the shore, Italians Claudio Alonzi and Tiziana Barnobi were not among the fortunate ones. They had arrived on the boat to&nbsp;celebrate a friend's birthday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The two employees, belonging to the intelligence department, were taking part in a convivial meeting organised to celebrate the birthday of one of the group," added Cari.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Israeli foreign ministry also confirmed that one of the dead was a former member of the country's security forces. They are working with the diplomats to bring home the body.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the videos showed a search and rescue helicopter flying over the scene of the accident with chairs and other debris floating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, Lake Maggiore, the second-largest lake in all of Italy is a popular tourist destination on the south side of the Alps. Thousands come here for boating and to take in the breathtaking views.</p>

<p>The presence of Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country was noteworthy and suggested that Islamabad's ploy had not worked. Bangladesh was represented by&nbsp;High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman, while the UAE sent two officials from its capital.</p>

<p>Nigeria sent its deputy high commissioner and three delegates. Islamabad was given a swift reality check when the United Nations also registered its presence through delegates of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), and the International Labour Organization (ILO) attending the meet, the HT report said.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Pakistan given stern treatment by India</strong></h2>

<p>This gathering marked&nbsp;the first international meeting in the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two union territories in August 2019.</p>

<p>New Delhi has time and again reminded Islamabad that it has no locus standi either in G20 or Srinagar. Earlier this month, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers’ summit in Goa, External Affairs&nbsp; Minister (EAM) took no prisoners and called out Pakistan for its affinity towards terrorism.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Victims of terrorism do not sit together with perpetrators of terrorism to discuss terrorism,” Jaishankar said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Let’s be very clear on this. On this matter (terrorism) I would say Pakistan’s credibility is depleting faster than its forex reserves. So let’s be clear what this is about,” he added.</p>

<p>Jaishankar remained cold towards Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who attempted to use the platform to parrot the stale narrative of ISI overlords.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Zardari said, "Let's not get caught up in weaponising terrorism for diplomatic point scoring", Jaishankar countered him by saying no one was scoring diplomatic points.</p>

<p>"We are politically and diplomatically exposing Pakistan," said the EAM.&nbsp;</p>
