The thieves took videos of them stealing the cars and posted them on the ByteDance-owned platform with the hashtag&nbsp;“Kia Boys”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Preliminary investigations by the railway have&nbsp;cited a glitch in the track interlocking mechanism that contributed to the crash.&nbsp;Jaya Varma Sinha, Member of Operation and Business Development at the Indian Railways Board on Monday, during a press conference, explained how the events led to India’s deadliest train accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sinha said that the functioning of the interlocking system, prima facie, may have been part of the problem.&nbsp;The railway official said that only Coromandel Express, which was travelling at a speed of around 128 kilometres per hour had an accident with the other two trains involved in the collateral. The passenger trains were supposed to be on the main lines and pass each other without any fuss while the freight train remained stationary on the loop line.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The officials claimed that the system is both "error proof and tamper proof". Hence, more questions are being raised as to what could have put Coromandel Express on the loop line.&nbsp;</p>

Setting up the doomsday clock, Matt Clifford, who is currently constituting a government AI taskforce, said policymakers from across the globe need to work together to control the technology, which otherwise could have devastating consequences.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“You can have really very dangerous threats to humans that could kill many humans, not all humans, simply from where we’d expect models to be in two years time,” said Clifford.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said humans should be prepared for&nbsp;threats ranging from cyberattacks to the creation of bioweapons if AI is allowed its way.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The kind of existential risk that I think the letter writers were talking about is...what happens once we effectively create a new species, you know an intelligence that is greater than humans."</p>

<p>“If we try and create artificial intelligence that is more intelligent than humans and we don’t know how to control it, then that’s going to create a potential for all sorts of risks now and in the future...it’s right that it should be very high on the policymakers’ agendas.”</p>

<p>"BBC must act as per the stated procedure or face the law. The Department will continue to take action against it until the matter is taken to the logical conclusion," an official was quoted as saying by the publication.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite making an informal confession, BBC will have to file a revised return for it to be taken seriously.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The development comes months after tax surveys were carried out at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai by the Income Tax Department in February.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>ED registers a case</strong></h2>

<p>BBC and its financial activities have&nbsp;been put under the microscope since the turn of the year.&nbsp;In April,&nbsp;Enforcement Directorate registered a case against BBC for&nbsp;alleged foreign exchange violations.</p>

<p>The case was filed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). High-level employees of the organisation including one of the BBC India directors were interrogated by the law enforcement agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This is the first initiative of its kind in the world for an extensive and multidisciplinary examination of new technologies, including the transportation of cargo and later, people,” Transportation Minister Miri Regev was quoted as saying by <em>The Times of Israel</em>.</p>

<p>Naik is a fugitive, currently on the run from the Indian government, after fleeing the country in 2016.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The accused also used to talk with the gamers (children) through a chat application and there they were shown videos of Zakir Naik and Tariq Jameel to persuade them to convert," a police officer in Ghaziabad said.</p>

<h2><strong>Cleric arrested from mosque&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>On Sunday, an Islamic cleric at a mosque in the Sanjay Nagar area of Ghaziabad was arrested in connection with the case.</p>

<p>The police acted after a father from Faridabad reported his son had been converted by someone he met online and had been visiting the mosque.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cleric arrested has been identified as&nbsp;Abdul Rehman and hails from Ballia. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to nab the second accused, who hails from Thane in the western state of Maharashtra.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"On May 30, a case of religious conversion was registered at Kavi Nagar Police Station, in which two people were named and were identified as Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra and Nanni alias Abdul Rehman, a Maulvi at a mosque in Sanjay Nagar area.</p>

<p>Rehman has been arrested," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ghaziabad, Nipun Agarwal.</p>

<p>According to the police, upon questioning the boy, they learnt that he and his friends were in contact with Rehman through a gaming app since 2021.</p>

<p>The boy's mother said she witnessed a change in his son's behaviour and even tried to counsel him but to no avail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police is yet to question the youth from Chandigarh who had been brainwashed to convert by the gang. Further investigation is currently underway.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The decision was not welcomed by the state attorney general who called the approval 'unconstitutional' and warned of legal action as it was "contrary to Oklahoma law".</p>

<p>"It's extremely disappointing that board members violated their oath in order to fund religious schools with our tax dollars. In doing so, these members have exposed themselves and the state to potential legal action that could be costly," said Attorney General Gentner Drummond.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The proposal will most certainly be challenged in the courts but shows an increasing trend across the US where conservatives are batting for more religious schools.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The US Supreme Court, which now has a 6-to-3 conservative majority has already thrown its weight behind directing taxpayer money to religious schools. In separate rulings in 2020 and 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that the states of Montana and Maine could not exclude religious schools from state programmes that allowed parents to use government-financed scholarships.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said the court's rulings did not mean states had to support religious education but if a state was issuing subsidies to any private schools, the religious ones may not be discriminated against.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A man hailing from the northeastern state of Assam was rescued from under the debris, 48 hours after the deadly triple train accident in India's Odisha.</p>

<p>Despite being trapped without food or water for two days, 35-year-old Dulal Mazumdar from Guwahati managed to survive. He, however, suffered severe injuries during the collision and was thrown into thick bushes next to an upturned coach of the Coromandel Express.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For two days, the rescue workers had rummaged around the wreckage of the three trains to find survivors. However,&nbsp;Mazumdar, seemingly stuck in an improbable spot was missed by all. It was only when the rescue operation was winding down and the focus turned to restoring services on the track that a small group of police personnel heard a feeble voice at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We were surprised how a man could be alive after 48 hours of a train accident such as this. We called for help and aided by some social workers, took him to the community centre at Soro. He was administered first aid there, and rushed to the Balasore district headquarters hospital,” a policeman who did not wish to be identified was quoted as saying by HT.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After being pulled out,&nbsp;Mazumdar was quickly dispatched to the nearest hospital in Soro. Due to the seriousness of his head injuries, doctors at the local hospital transferred him to Balasore Hospital for specialised care.&nbsp;Mazumdar was travelling alongside five other people from the state. However, it is unclear if they had survived.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He was in the general compartment of Coromandel Express when the accident happened. He was probably flung off and landed in the bush. It is a miracle that he has survived for two days,” added Dr Subhajit Giri of Balasore district headquarters hospital.</p>

<h2><strong>What happened in Odisha?</strong></h2>

<p>A collision between two passenger trains and a goods train in the eastern Indian state of Odisha's Balasore over the weekend resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 275 individuals, with approximately 900 others sustaining injuries.</p>

<p>The Howrah Superfast Express derailed and became entangled with the Coromandel Express, South Eastern Railway authorities said. A goods train too was part of the massive collision, making it one of the deadliest train accidents India has ever witnessed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After a portion of an under-construction Khagaria-Aguwani bridge in the eastern Indian state of Bihar collapsed on Sunday (June 4), Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has said it was a planned demolition as experts had discovered 'serious defects' in the design.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Addressing a hurried press conference after the accident, Yadav appeared alongside the additional chief secretary of road construction department, Pratyay Amrit and made the statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It may be recalled that a portion of this bridge had collapsed on April 30 last year. I strongly raised it in my capacity as the then Leader of the Opposition," said Yadav.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Upon coming to power, we ordered an inquiry and sought expert opinion...approached IIT-Roorkee, which is esteemed for its expertise in construction matters, to conduct a study. It is yet to come up with a final report but experts who had studied the structure had informed us that there were serious defects."</p>

<p>Yadav disclosed that several 'vulnerable' parts of the bridge had already been pulled down due to structural flaws. He added that Sunday's incident confirmed the government's "worst apprehensions".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Amrit, confirmed that parts of bridges were pulled out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It was decided that we must not take any chance and wait for a final report. So we went ahead with pulling down parts of the bridge."</p>

<p>According to reports, the state government is waiting for the final report to come before taking action such as lodging an FIR and blacklisting the company which was awarded the contract.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yadav added that his government remained committed to building the bridge which was an important infrastructure project for the people of north Bihar.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This bridge is of great importance for north Bihar where connectivity will greatly improve once it begins to function. We are committed to completing the project after setting right everything that has been wrong."</p>

<h2><strong>Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge and its history</strong></h2>

<p>Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation of the bridge in 2015, and its construction was scheduled to be completed within five years. However, the bridge remained under construction with the latest deadline promising completion by December 2023.&nbsp;</p>
