The system can detect threats from a range of 870 to 3,000 kilometres.&nbsp;
In the past eight days, this is the fifth such attack by the Iran-backed Houthi group on Israel.

US residents had recently reported multiple incidents of sighting mysterious drones and orbs in the skies above the eastern part of the US.&nbsp;
A Reddit user told the Express US, "I started noticing the objects about 20 minutes into the flight and then towards the end of the flight. The objects show more detail than I noticed with my naked eye."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security previously said in a statement that the flying objects do not pose any threat to public safety.&nbsp;
But earlier this month, the Federal Aviation Administration banned drone flights in 22 areas in New Jersey and in 30 areas of New York, these were the places where critical infrastructure could be found.&nbsp;

After mysterious drones, 'red orbits' seen in US skies

A pro-Russia hacking group Saturday (Dec 28) claimed responsibility for a cyberattack targeting at least ten official websites in Italy, including those belonging to the foreign ministry and two airports in Milan city. The group, named Noname057(16), in a statement on Telegram said Italy&rsquo;s &lsquo;Russophobes&rsquo; got a &ldquo;well deserved cyber response&rdquo;.

Earlier, Italy&rsquo;s cyber security agency said that the attack left the targeted websites out of service for some time. A spokesperson for the agency said Russia-backed hackers deployed the so-called "Distributed Denial of Service" (DDoS) attack. DDoS involves feeding a network with massive amounts of data traffic in less time which ends up paralysing it.
The agency added that it quickly offered assistance to targeted websites and mitigated the overall affect within two hours.
A company that manages Milan's Linate and Malpensa airports in a statement said that the cyber attack caused no flight disruptions on any of the airports. It said the travellers could still use the mobile application to access necessary services.

Earlier this year, Italy&rsquo;s National Cybersecurity Agency reported a staggering 625 per cent increase in DDoS-type cyber attacks compared to the previous year. According to a report by Financial Times, the NoName057(16) group was also involved in targeting key Italian institutions in 2024, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni&rsquo;s website and those of the Ministries of Infrastructure and Enterprise.

The FSB didn&rsquo;t identify the potential targets of the alleged plot in its statement. It said the Ukrainian intelligence agency GUR had contacted a Russian citizen through messaging app Telegram.
The Russian national then allegedly managed to retrieve the bomb from a &lsquo;hiding place&rsquo; in capital Moscow. He then concealed the bomb, equivalent to 1 1/2 kg of TNT and packed with ball bearings, inside a portable music speaker.
The major allegation by Russia comes weeks after Ukraine&rsquo;s SBU assassinated the chief of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops in Moscow outside his apartment. Lieutenant General Kirillov was Russia&rsquo;s highest-ranking officer killed in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The SBU agents reportedly attached a bomb to an electric scooter and exploded it as Kirillov and his aide walked towards their official car. Ukraine had accused Kirillov of staging several chemical attacks against Kyiv forces during the war.

"Have you still not got in? What are you doing? Break down the door and drag them out, even if it means shooting," Yoon told Lee, according to the report.
Yoon also allegedly told the head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, General Kwak Jong-keun, to "quickly get inside" the National Assembly since the quorum for the martial law declaration to be lifted had not been met.
"So quickly get inside the National Assembly and bring out the people inside the chamber, and break down the doors with an axe if necessary and drag everyone out," the report quotes Yoon as saying at the time.

The report also included screenshots of senior defence officials' messages from the day of the martial law declaration.
It said there was evidence that Yoon had been discussing declaring martial law with senior military officials as early as March.&nbsp;
The declaration followed a budget tussle between Yoon's party and the opposition.
Days later, Yoon said in a speech that he apologised for the "anxiety and inconvenience" and promised that there would not be a second declaration of martial law.&nbsp;

The former prime minister was a very close friend of the people of Mauritius during his terms of office, between 2004 to 2014. During that term, he had always done his best to promote this special relationship, this special bond between the two nations. I also remember that the current Mauritius Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam was also a very close friend of the late Dr Manmohan Singh. In fact, on two occasions when Dr Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister, he invited current Prime Minister&nbsp; Dr Navin Ramgoolam&nbsp;to India, where they had signed numerous MOUs and bilateral agreements about, you know, security, culture, education, etc. And what is more important for Mauritius is that you know, when he was Prime Minister, he was instrumental in preserving the double taxation treaty that we have with India. And also another important thing that he did for Mauritius was that he intervened personally with the Mangalore oil refinery to get petroleum products to Mauritius at a very concessionary rate. So these are a few instances where the late Prime Minister has been very helpful to the people of Mauritius.

The number of people in the United States experiencing homelessness reached a new record this year, with lingering inflation and high housing prices among likely drivers, a government report said Friday.
An estimated 771,480 people were homeless on a single night in January 2024, rising 18 percent from 2023, said the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in an annual assessment.
This translates to about 23 in every 10,000 people in the country, home to the world's biggest economy.
The uptick came as households felt the pressure from housing costs, with the median rent for January 2024 being 20 percent higher than that in January 2021, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
Apart from housing costs, the HUD report flagged "stagnating wages among middle- and lower-income households, and the persisting effects of systemic racism" as other factors.
Other contributing issues included natural disasters that displaced people, rising immigration and an end to homelessness prevention programs introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nearly 150,000 children experienced homelessness on a single night this year -- a 33 percent jump over 2023 -- the report said.
Children under the age of 18 were the age group seeing the biggest surge in homelessness between 2023 and 2024.
Individuals identifying as Black, African American or African remain overrepresented among homeless people as well, the report said.

While people identifying as Black form 12 percent of the United States' population, they made up 32 percent of people experiencing homelessness.
Those in families with children saw the biggest single-year rise in homelessness, the report said, adding that migration had "a particularly notable impact on family homelessness."
Homelessness among veterans, however, fell to the lowest number on record.

Amid the tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Islamabad on Tuesday (Dec 24) launched overnight airstrikes, targeting suspected Taliban hideouts.
The strike successfully dismantled a training facility and killed some insurgents, said Pakistan security officials, as per a PTI report.
At least six explosions have been reported at the Pakistan Taliban camp, sources told WION's Pakistan bureau chief Anas Mallick.
Four big TTP camps have been destroyed, sources said, adding Taliban commanders Sher Zaman alias Mukhlis Yar, Akhtar Muhammad alias Khalil, Azhar alias Hamza, Shoaib Cheema were killed. The office of Umar Media has also been destroyed.
The total death toll is yet to be officially confirmed, but sources said it stands somewhere between 25 and 30.&nbsp;
<h2>What areas were targeted?</h2>
Citing anonymous security sources, the PTI news agency reported that Taliban bases near the border, in Afghanistan's Barmal district of Paktika Province, were targeted. However, it is not clear if the jets went deep inside Afghanistan or how exactly they were launched.

Pakistan is yet to launch an official statement on the said airstrikes.
However, Afghanistan, in a statement, has strongly condemned the strikes and has labelled them a "cowardly act".

In a statement, the Afghan Defence Ministry said, "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers this a brutal act against all international principles and blatant aggression and strongly condemns it".
The nation alleged that the bombing was targeted at civilians, including women and children. It also claimed that all of those killed in Pakistan's strikes were refugees from the Waziristan region.

<h2>Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions&nbsp;</h2>
Islamabad often claims that the Pakistan Taliban uses the neighbouring nation's soil to launch attacks on Pakistan. However, Kabul vehemently denies the charge.
These are the second such strikes since March 2024. Previously, Pakistan reported that it had carried out an intelligence-based attack in the border areas inside Afghanistan.
The new strikes came just hours after Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan, travelled to Kabul. There, he met with Sirajuddin Haqqani, Afghanistan's acting interior minister and "held wide-ranging discussions."
"Agreed to work together to further strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as for peace and progress in the region," he added in a post on X.
He also conveyed his condolences over the December 11 killing of his uncle Khalil Haqqani.&nbsp;

Bat faeces are considered to be highly nutritious for the plants. However, it can sometimes also contain harmful spores from the Histoplasma capsulatum fungus that can be found in bat faeces. It can cause a deadly lung infection called histoplasmosis.&nbsp;

One of them was a 59-year-old who had been facing breathing issues and weight loss for months. He was also suffering from emphysema and also used to smoke cigarettes and cannabis. He was admitted to the hospital where the doctors found a mass on his larynx.
