A mass shooting on a CTA Blue Line train in Forest Park,&nbsp;Chicago on Monday (Sep&nbsp;2) morning took lives of four people. According to Forest Park Police Deputy Chief Christopher Chin, the victims were travelling on a Blue Line train heading towards the Forest Park terminal when they were shot at around 5:30 am. Three of the victims were dead at the scene, while the fourth died at a nearby hospital.

According to officials, the shooting seemed to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities believe there was a single suspect involved, and the shooter did not know the victims, who were believed to be homeless individuals riding the train.&nbsp;

"This obviously is shocking. You know, it is uncommon here to have a mass shooting like this, especially this close to home that we're actually investigating on a holiday. So, for people to feel unsafe, it's justified," Chin said.&nbsp;

He continued, "It's a horrible situation. It's definitely something that you don't want to wake up to. It's a Monday morning on a holiday. Everyone's supposed to be enjoying their time off, time with their families. It's Labor Day, so to actually have to be here to address a situation like this, it's horrible."

The suspected shooter was tracked down by CTA security and Forest Park Police using surveillance footage. The individual was apprehended on a CTA Pink Line train, and a weapon was recovered.

"Surveillance video is vital in a lot of our investigations, especially in this one," Chin noted. After the incident, Blue Line service between Forest Park and Austin has been temporarily suspended.

The CTA released a statement condemning the act of violence, "Although this was an isolated incident, this heinous and egregious act of violence should never have occurred, none the less on a public transit train."

"As soon as this matter was reported, CTA immediately deployed resources to assist the Forest Park Police in their investigation into the matter, including review of all possible security camera footage, which proved to be vital in aiding local enforcement," the statement said.

"We commend both the Forest Park Police Department for their thorough and collaborative efforts to provide information to partner agencies; as well as the Chicago Police Department whose quick actions led to the apprehension of a suspect in this matter," it added.

"Acting at the request of PRC government officials and the [Communist Party of China] representative, Sun engaged in numerous political activities in the interests of the PRC and the CCP," the indictment noted.&nbsp;

Sun and Hu own&nbsp;a mansion worth millions in New York's posh Long Island. The court documents revealed that she&nbsp;allegedly laundered kickbacks to purchase the expensive property.&nbsp;According to state payroll records, Sun only made $152,217 during her last full year working for the Department of Labor.

In exchange for her loyalty, Chinese government representatives also facilitated millions of dollars in transactions for Hu. who had business activities in China. Prosecutors revealed that other gifts&nbsp;included Nanjing-style salted ducks prepared by a Chinese government official's personal chef and delivered to the home of Sun's parents.&nbsp;

Sun is being charged with&nbsp;violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy.

Hochul's office released a statement after Sun's indictment stating that her employment was terminated in 2023.&nbsp;

“We terminated her employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct, immediately reported her actions to law enforcement and have assisted law enforcement throughout this process,” said&nbsp;Hochul’s press secretary Avi Small.&nbsp;

Even after her employment was terminated, Sun&nbsp;attended "public and professional Asian community events purporting to represent the Department of Labor while claiming to be the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Labor", the indictment noted.

Last month, a Queens resident named Yuanjun Tang was also arrested for&nbsp;allegedly spying for China on pro-democracy activists and dissidents whilst making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).&nbsp;

According to the Department of Justice, Yuanjun&nbsp;acted as a Chinese agent between 2019 and 2023 under the direction of China's Ministry of State Security (MSS), its principal intelligence agency.

The US embassy in Turkey said that a nationalist Turkish youth group on Monday (Sep 2) assaulted two US soldiers in the western part of the country, leading to the arrest of at least 15 individuals.

In a statement, the Izmir governor’s office said members of the Turkey Youth Union (TGB) “physically attacked” two US soldiers dressed as civilians in the Konak district.

The statement added that five US soldiers got involved as the incident unfolded, before an intervention by police. All 15 attackers were subsequently detained and an investigation was launched.

<h2>White House ‘troubled’</h2>

A statement by the White House on Monday said it was “troubled” by the incident and that it was “appreciative that Turkish police are taking this matter seriously and holding those responsible accountable”.

The US embassy in Turkey later said all US soldiers were safe. “We can confirm reports that US service members embarked aboard the USS Wasp were the victims of an assault in Izmir today, and are now safe,” it said on social media platform X.

Turkey Youth Union (TGB) is a youth group which holds anti-US views. The group is backed by the Turkish "Vatan Party," a nationalist political party in Turkey.

Eleven people were killed in China's eastern Shandong province on Tuesday after a school bus lost control at a busy pedestrian junction, broadcaster CCTV reported, with disturbing footage showing bodies lying on the road and trapped under the vehicle.

Six parents and five children were killed in the incident, while one remained in critical condition. More than two dozen were injured, CCTV said.

The review looked at cancers of the brain in adults and children, as well as cancer of the pituitary gland, salivary glands and leukaemias, and risks linked to mobile phone use, base stations, or transmitters, as well as occupational exposure.
