The United States on Tuesday (Nov 12) expressed concern over North Korea's decision to supply troops to Russia “to continue their brutal war against Ukraine”.

During a daily press briefing, State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel confirmed that thousands of North Korean troops in Russia have started “engaging in combat operations” alongside Russian forces on the Ukraine border.

This comes as Russia and North Korea both ratified a historic defence pact, deepening their mutual support and military cooperation. This treaty would see the two nations provide each other military support “without delay” if either nation comes under attack.

When asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin's rationalisation of the dispatch of North Korean troops by signing a military treaty, Patel said, “We are incredibly concerned by Russia’s decision to turn to the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea — North Korea's official name) to supply soldiers to continue their brutal war against Ukraine”.

“Today I can confirm that over 10,000 DPRK soldiers have been sent to eastern Russia, and most of them have moved to the far western Kursk Oblast, where they have begun engaging in combat operations with Russian forces,” he said.

The State Department spokesperson further revealed that the Russian forces have trained their North Korean counterparts in “UAV and basic infantry operations, including trench clearing, which are critical skills for frontline operations”.

“The United States is consulting closely with our allies and partners and other countries in the region on the implications of this, on these developments,” he added.

US 'incredibly concerned' by North Korea troops in Russia, confirms 10,000 soldiers have joined Ukraine war

Lebanese state media announced Wednesday (Nov 13) that Israel had conducted a third wave of airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Beirut within 24 hours. These attacks followed a previous strike south of Beirut that, according to the health ministry, resulted in the death of six people.

“Enemy aircraft targeted Beirut's southern suburbs,” Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported, adding that a total of six strikes took place. The Israeli army issued an evacuation warning to residents in certain parts of southern Beirut, making it the third such alert in the past 24 hours.

“You are located near facilities and interests affiliated with Hezbollah, against which the Israel Defense Forces (military) will act in the near future,” army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a post on X, along with a map of the designated areas.

In a separate development on Wednesday, Hezbollah launched multiple rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel. The Israeli defence forces intercepted some of these rockets, though several did hit the ground. A home in the northern Israeli town of Maalot-Tarshiha was struck in the attack, though no injuries were reported.

“In the context of the letter, it's not about whether we find something satisfactory or not; it's what are the actions that we're seeing.”

Multiple eruptions from the 1,703-metre (5,587-foot) twin-peaked volcano in recent weeks have killed nine people, with 31 injured and more than 11,000 evacuated, Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said Tuesday.

Bali flights cancelled after volcano erupts in Indonesia

US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Tuesday (Nov 12) arrested a CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) operative in Cambodia for allegedly leaking classified documents regarding Israel’s plans to strike Iran. The research also reveals that 82 per cent of pet owners feel their pet is like their own child. Furthermore, 60 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials are willing to prioritise spending on their pets rather than themselves, and 70 per cent allocate a budget for their pets.&nbsp;

“As missiles were approaching Kyiv, the enemy simultaneously launched a ballistic missile attack on the capital. The enemy attack ended with another drone strike,” said the city authorities.

Just a day earlier, a Russian strike on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown claimed the lives of a young mother and her three children.
