US & Taiwan conducted drills in China's backyard: Reports

US and Taiwan in recent years have been expanding their military cooperation. This comes amid incursions by Chinese forces into Taiwan's air defence identification zone and drills conducted near the island nation. Reports have now emerged that both countries undertook military exercises last month in the Pacific. These unofficial drills were dubbed as unplanned sea encounters so that both sides could claim the exercise to be a result of a coincidental encounter.
