A US appeals court has ruled that many of President Donald Trump's tariffs, which disrupted global trade, were unlawful, but has allowed them to stay in effect until October 14. This gives the Trump administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court. The ruling, made on August 29, 2025, was in response to lawsuits filed by small US businesses and 12 Democratic-led states, who argued that Trump exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
