At least 60 people, mostly women and children, lost their lives after a boat capsized in Nigeria's northern Niger state earlier this week, a local official reported. The wooden boat, carrying nearly 300 passengers returning from a religious festival, sank on Tuesday night in the River Niger near the Gbajibo Community. Jibril Abdullahi Muregi, chairman of the Mokwa local government, confirmed that around 160 people have been rescued so far.
