Himalayas Hit by Historic Snow Drought as Warming Cuts Winter Snow | WION

The Hindu Kush Himalaya region is facing a historic snow drought after the 2024 to 2025 winter recorded a 23 year low in snow persistence. Scientists say warming at higher elevations between 3,000 and 6,000 metres is causing more precipitation to fall as rain instead of snow, threatening glaciers, rivers and long term water security across South Asia.
