The "sapeurs" of the Congolese capital commemorate the memory of the "father of sape," Stervos Niarcos, who died 31 years ago to the day. La Sape, the Society of Ambiance Makers and Elegant People, is a clothing identity movement that began when young people began to adopt and repurpose the clothes worn by the colonists.
