Conducted in Lake Vättern, the experiment reveals how trace levels of illicit drugs entering waterways can alter animal behaviour in unexpected ways. Researchers from Griffith University tracked salmon fry fitted with implants that released controlled drug doses similar to those found in polluted urban waters. The findings showed notable changes in movement patterns, with some fish traveling significantly farther than untreated groups.
