Chinese ambassador claims Beijing could easily win a conflict

The Philippines has summoned China’s ambassador to Manila after he said Beijing would “easily win” a conflict between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro conveyed Manila’s “serious concern and strong objection” to Ambassador Jing Quan over remarks it described as a threat to use force. Philippine senators have also called for the envoy’s expulsion, escalating tensions between the two countries.
