<p>In a miraculous life-saving operation, Indian doctors successfully managed to remove a sewing needle from the lungs of a seven-year-old.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the operation was performed using a magnet that doctors urgently sourced from Chandni Chowk, one of Delhi’s oldest and busiest markets.</p>

<p>The boy was admitted to a private hospital after he developed a high fever and coughed up blood, reported Indian Express. When doctors found out that a needle had made its way to the boy’s left lung, he was transferred to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)- Delhi on Wednesday (Nov 1).</p>

<p>Indian Express quoted Dr Vishesh Jain, Additional Professor in the Paediatric Department at AIIMS Delhi, as saying that the needle was stuck very deep in the lungs.</p>

<p>“Conventionally, we remove foreign bodies… through bronchoscopy. The challenge here was that it (the needle) was deeper in the lungs which meant less area available for us to use our instruments…,” he said, adding, “We then came up with the idea of using a magnet, which we procured from Chandni Chowk.”</p>

<p>Had the magnet, 4 mm in width and 1.5 mm in thickness, not been available to the doctors on time, “the boy would have required an open-heart surgery,” said Dr Jain.</p>

<p>The practitioner surnamed Yu&nbsp;claimed he had specialised knowledge of cancer treatment, according to the South China Morning Post.</p>

<p>He convinced the mother-daughter duo with seemingly credible patent documents and awards he had received for his treatments in the past.</p>

<p>Wang's mother's first round of treatment started with her purchasing a batch of liquid medication for 20,000 yuan ($2,752), which Yu assured her was a simple oral remedy.</p>

<p>Wang and her mother made several trips to the clinic over the following year, spending huge amounts on travel from their already dwindling resources.</p>

<p>According to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the 36-year-old Russian speaker from Azerbaijan was using a translation app that erroneously gave out the wrong word for pomegranate.</p>

<p>When he showed the wrong translated word while ordering, the waiter thought that he was carrying a grenade and threatening to blow up the place, following which the police were called in.</p>

<p>The man, whose name has not been revealed, soon found himself surrounded by a group of armed police.</p>

<p>Five police officers then immobilised him, cuffed his hands, and escorted him to a police station for interrogation, the newspaper reported.</p>

<p>A video that went viral online purportedly shows the man being forced to lie face down on the ground before five officers approach him and handcuffed him.</p>

<p>Some decades ago, in 1981, Farouk El-Baz, a geologist writing in the Smithsonian Magazine, theorised that like the pyramids, the Egyptians didn't create the mighty Sphinx from scratch. Instead, he speculated that the desert winds had a hand in the formation of the overall contours of the Abū al-Hawl, or "Father of Terror."</p>

<p>Using fluid dynamics, scientists from the New York University (NYU) created miniature, lion-like landforms from clay. They deduced that it is actually possible that ancient Egyptians were inspired by the shape of a rock and visualised the Sphinx as we know it.</p>

<p>Led by Leif Ristroph, the team from New York University was originally studying how water eroded clay when they were "struck" by a familiar shape.</p>

<p>"We were struck by the resemblance to a seated lion or a lion in repose. And I was reading about this and came across the idea that perhaps even the Great Sphinx was one of these natural formations that then got, obviously, a little facelift from the ancient Egyptians," said Ristroph, in a conversation with New Science. Their findings have been published in&nbsp;Physical Review Fluids.</p>

She says that these Yardangs also exist on Mars, where the lack of water has allowed erosion to create sphinx-like shapes.</p>

<p>Ristroph and his colleagues are now working on developing a mathematical description of the geological process that may have contributed to the Sphinx's origins.</p>

<p>"It has come to our attention that a leopard was spotted in the vicinity of Singasandra area, but according to the latest update, it has moved far away and was spotted near GB Palya and the forest department is in pursuit of capturing the leopard. We have implemented additional safety measures within the school premises," the letter read.</p>

<p>"Our security team is on high alert and will be closely monitoring the area. We kindly request your cooperation in reinforcing safety measures with your children," the letter further stated.</p>

<p>The emperor penguin is classified as a threatened species and is native to Antarctica. At SeaWorld, 17 of these penguins are kept in a controlled habitat that is maintained at a chilly 25 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 5 degrees Celsius).&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the zoo houses around 300 penguins from various species, the successful hatching of the emperor penguin held special significance for SeaWorld's staff, said supervisor of the birds, Melissa Ramsey, who was directly involved in the hatching process.</p>

<p>Unlike some other penguin species that lay multiple eggs annually, the female emperor only lays a single egg each year, clarified Ramsey during a telephone interview with Reuters.</p>

<p>The park disclosed that the egg was laid on July 7.</p>

<h2><strong>Emperor penguins</strong></h2>

<p>The largest among penguin species, the emperor penguin, scientifically known as Aptenodytes forsteri, can grow up to 3.7 feet (1.15 meters) in height and can weigh as much as 99 pounds (45 kilograms), according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).</p>

<p>The species' egg-laying habits differ from other species. Emperor penguins only lay one egg at a time. In most penguin species, both male and female penguins usually take turns incubating the egg. However, the female emperor generally returns to the sea to feed after laying the egg, leaving the male to tend to the egg for over two months without feeding.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The recent zoo hatching was also unique due to the fact that the mother penguin did not transfer the egg to the father for incubation.</p>

<p>Due to this, SeaWorld's staff assumed the responsibility. They noticed signs of movement and sound from within the egg on September 7. However, after 72 hours without any significant progress, the team intervened.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, last year the woman's 33-year-old daughter Brianna Hayes, who was born after the artificial insemination procedure, found out the identity of her biological father by submitting her DNA to the ancestry and genetic testing website, 23andMe.<br />

Brianna Hayes also made another shocking discovery that she had at least 16 other half-siblings in the nearby vicinity. It is not certain if any other women have filed any legal lawsuit against Claypool.</p>

<p>As soon as the man saw the bear, he ran for his life, fortunately slipping away from the large clutches of the bear with some minor scratches.</p>

<p>The guard was admitted to the hospital but was released shortly.</p>

<p>CCTC footage showed the bear strolling in the kitchen of the five-star hotel, just moments before a guard entered the scene to investigate.</p>

<p>It was identified as the same animal that attacked the security guard due to a distinctive white patch on its chest, according to CPW.</p>

<p>According to wildlife officials, it was not clear what attracted the animal to the kitchen as it was “clean and did not have food lying around.”</p>

<h2><strong>Statement from police</strong></h2>

<p>Matt Yamashita, area wildlife manager, said: "During our initial investigation we gathered witness statements along with photos and videos from hotel security cameras.”</p>

<p>"All played an important part in our investigation. Using the footage provided by the hotel, we were able to confirm the aggressive behaviour of the bear and identify unique physical characteristics of the bear that assisted in the proper identification of the offending bear," the officer added.</p>

<p>Experts estimate Colorado has between 17,000 and 20,000 bears and the population is "stable and growing".</p>

<p>After a public consultation process, it was decided that feral horses will be shot from the air in Kosciuszko National Park as New South Wales Environment Minister Penny Sharpe stated that it is important to protect threatened wildlife and ecosystems in the Australian park.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, she stated that there has been a pause in the effective management of horse populations for many years because of which the park suffered.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sharpe stated that as the environment minister, who has responsibility for national parks, she could not tolerate the damage caused by the horses to Indigenous cultural heritage and ecosystems.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I can’t stand by and say the status quo is adequate, because the harm and damage that’s happening to that park is too great,” she stated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes after the final report of an inquiry carried out by the Senate into the damage caused in the Australian Alps by thousands of feral horses hinted at the extinction risk faced by the native species, which included the southern corroboree frog and critically endangered stocky galaxias fish.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The species scientific committee in the inquiry in May warned that feral horses “may be the crucial factor that causes final extinction" of two critically endangered plants and six critically endangered animals.</p>

<p>Federal Environment and Water Minister Tanya Plibersek said that she welcomed the announcement. “I love horses but they don’t belong in national parks. Feral horses are causing serious damage to our native plants and animals, including many endangered species in the Australian Alps. This will be a huge help in reducing feral horse numbers and protecting the more than 30 native threatened species that call the Alps home," she said, while speaking to The Guardian.</p>

<p>With a slew of hired actors by her side as relatives and friends, she could cast a perfect picture of her 'real' life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zhang Xueting, an assistant prosecutor at the Nanjing Lishui People’s Procuratorate, reportedly told a TV channel that Zhou was “good-looking and good at pretending”.</p>

<p>The residents living in the eastern suburbs of Sydney have been scouring the streets to find two pet pythons who were allegedly left by the ex-boyfriend of a lady living in the area in a “fit of anger”.</p>

<p>The 2.5-metre snakes, which were given the names Mango and Bagel, were allegedly left on the main street in Coogee many days back and have remained on the loose since then.</p>

<p>Taking to local Facebook groups, the owner of the snakes announced a reward for the person who helps her find her pets, which she stated were tame and posed a threat only to the animals.</p>

<p>“My shitty ex threw a tantrum when I broke up with him and dumped my lovely hand-reared pet pythons out in a fit of anger. He dumped them on Mount Street, Coogee, the snakes are domesticated and won’t survive in the wild. I’m really scared for their safety, so please if anyone has seen them let me know," the woman wrote on Facebook.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The woman was given leads by local residents, as many of them confirmed spotting Mango in a bush on Mount Street on Saturday (Oct 21). “I seen it about 12am,” wrote one user.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I went out with a couple of sacks and a torch tonight but no luck,” said another user on Thursday evening (Oct 26).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Concerns were expressed by other residents regarding the risk the snakes are likely to pose to the community, especially by a woman who has a “small dog" in her yard.</p>

<p>“On behalf of the neighbourhood … please for the love of god someone find these snakes,” wrote one user, as another added, “I know you said they don’t bite, but I think I’d still faint if I see them near me”.</p>

<p>“They should not be out there in the environment, because they’re captive animals, they don’t survive well because they’re not from here. The temperature’s not right, they don’t know how to find food, so it’s quite a precarious situation for the snakes more so than the community," he stated.&nbsp;</p>

The residents living in the eastern suburbs of Sydney have been scouring the streets to find two pet pythons who were allegedly left by the ex-boyfriend of a lady living in the area in a “fit of anger”.

The 2.5-metre snakes, which were given the names Mango and Bagel, were allegedly left on the main street in Coogee many days back and have remained on the loose since then. Taking to local Facebook groups, the owner of the snakes announced a reward for the person who helps her find her pets, which she stated were tame and posed a threat only to the animals. “My shitty ex threw a tantrum when I broke up with him and dumped my lovely hand-reared pet pythons out in a fit of anger. He dumped them on Mount Street, Coogee, the snakes are domesticated and won’t survive in the wild. I’m really scared for their safety, so please if anyone has seen them let me know," the woman wrote on Facebook.
