Xiaomi has entered the field of electric vehicles and to show the power of its "bulletproof" coatings, the founder and CEO of the tech firm came up with an innovative idea. In a video uploaded on his social media handle, Lei Jun can be seen tossing watermelons from the rooftop of a building located within the company&rsquo;s electric vehicle division complex in Beijing.
He says at the start of the video that the watermelons have been covered with their bulletproof coating and the experiment aims to show the effectiveness of their material, SCMP reported.
In the video, Lei is standing on the sixth floor of the building and tosses down three watermelons. A layer of grey, &ldquo;bulletproof&rdquo; material was coated on the fruits, and to the surprise of viewers, the watermelons landed safely.

Addressing a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said, "The Chinese government attaches great importance to and protects data privacy and security in accordance with the law."

Guo's remarks came as he was asked in the presser about six Chinese companies including TikTok and Xiaomi which had been named in a privacy complaint filed by Austrian advocacy group Noyb claiming the firms were unlawfully sending European Union user data to China.
Citing transparency reports, Noyb had said in its complaint that Alibaba's e-commerce site AliExpress, retailer Shein, TikTok and phone maker Xiaomi admit to sending Europeans&rsquo; personal data to China.

The smartphone makers have been given one-year time to adhere to the rules once it comes into effect. As of now, no date has been fixed as to when it will be implemented, the document stated.

"We will continue to use all means to protect the reputation and interests of the company and our stakeholders," it said.

The company said that Xiaomi India is an affiliate and one of the Xiaomi Group companies, which entered into a legal agreement with Qualcomm to license IP for manufacturing smartphones. Both Xiaomi and Qualcomm believe that it is a legitimate commercial arrangement for Xiaomi India to pay Qualcomm royalty, the statement said.

Australian police felt like cracking one too. On April 1, the State Police of Victoria said that they were launching a camel division

“Victoria Police will soon take ownership of Camels as a part of an expansion to mounted operations. The new one and two hump camels will be a welcome addition to the current herd, helping the organisation address both climate change and fuel price hikes,” read the Facebook post.

This did not stop here. Victorian police went ahead and listed advantages of Mounted Camel Division. They flaunted the “fuel-efficient, all-terrain vehicle” that will, as they said, cut down expenses of water cannons.

April Fool's Day: How Zomato, Oppo and even Australian police fooled people

Two Chinese smartphone makers operating in India may be fined Rs 10 <a name="_Hlk91924825">billion (US $134&nbsp;million approx.) </a>for violating a tax law relating to non-disclosures of transactions with associated enterprises.

On December 21, the Income Tax department had carried out search and seizure operations across India after receiving a tip-off on select foreign-controlled mobile communication and mobile handset manufacturing companies and their associated persons.

Several premises in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi NCR were covered.

“The search revealed that two major companies have made remittance in the nature of royalty, to and on behalf of its group companies located abroad, which aggregates to over Rs 5,500 crore. The claim of such expenses does not seem to be appropriate in light of the facts and evidence gathered during the search,” the I-T department said in a statement without naming the Chinese mobile manufacturers, but media reports confirmed the names Xiaomi and Oppo.

“It is gathered that both these companies had not complied with the regulatory mandate prescribed under the Income-tax Act, 1961 for disclosure of transactions with associated enterprises. Such lapse makes them liable for penal action under the Income-tax Act, 1961, the quantum of which could be in the range of more than Rs 1,000 crore (US $ <a name="_Hlk91924825">134&nbsp;</a>million approx.),” the CBDT statement added.

The tax sleuths also found that one of the companies utilised the services of another entity located in India but did not comply with the provisions of tax deduction at source introduced since April 1, 2020, and the quantum of liability of TDS on this account could be around Rs 3 billion (US $42 million).

Xiaomi unveiled a new visual identity for its premium line of goods on Monday.

The premium "Mi" series products will now be replaced with the new "Xiaomi" branding in order to unify the company's global brand presence.

The company said in a news release that with the introduction of the new brand identity, there will be two unique product lines under the parent corporate name.

The ‘Mi' brand will be retained on the business or corporate side, which means stores and corporate offices will have the same orange-colored logo as before.

However, under the Mi branding, its product portfolio will shift to the prefix "Xiaomi" and a new logo (that simply reads Xiaomi).

Redmi-branded goods would continue to bear the same name and emblem, according to the Chinese tech business.&nbsp;

"Being a leading technology brand with a strong presence across the globe, our aim is to have a unified presence. With this new logo shift, we envision bridging the perception gap between our brand and products."

"The new Xiaomi logo will be used for our premium products that represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a premium experience. Ushering in the festive season, Xiaomi's premium product series Mi will be renamed to Xiaomi'," Jaskaran Singh Kapany, Head of Marketing, Xiaomi India, said in a statement.

The Xiaomi Mi 1, the first Mi-branded smartphone, was released in August 2011, making the brand almost ten years old.

Under the Mi brand, the business has released tablets, TVs, smart gadgets, audio accessories, and other products over the years.

According to a recent Counterpoint Research survey, Xiaomi overcame Samsung and Apple to become the world's number one smartphone brand for the first time in June.

Xiaomi's sales increased by 26% month over month in June, making it the month's fastest-growing brand.&nbsp;

Xiaomi junks ‘Mi’ on its gadgets, officially drops decade old branding

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi’s new “HyperCharge” fast-charging technology has been piquing the curiosity of tech enthusiasts&nbsp;on social media, but it was unclear just how fast it was going to be… until now!

Turns out, the company’s new groundbreaking technology can charge a smartphone from 0 to 100 per cent in less than 8 minutes. Yes, you read that right!

In a YouTube video, the company claims that its 200W wired adaptor was able to get a modified Xiaomi MI 11 Pro from 0 to 10 per cent in less than 44 seconds. To attain a 50 per cent charge, the phone took 3 minutes. In less than 8 minutes, (7:57 to be exact) the phone was charged fully!
