<p>"The ceiling of the gymnasium completely fell down and the venue covers an area of about 1,200 square meters," state media CGTN reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to preliminary investigations, perlite, a form of volcanic glass that was piled on the roof soaked up the rainwater, which caused the roof to collapse around 15:00 local time Sunday (July 23).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Authorities launched a hunt to nab those who constructed the building and managed to apprehend one of them in no time.&nbsp;A further investigation is currently underway.&nbsp;</p>

Instead, he gathered top officials from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to set his own environmental agenda without any input from Washington.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Xi said that China would pursue its commitments “unswervingly,” but the pathways, intensity, and pace of such efforts “should and must be” determined without outside interference.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to The Washington Post, Li Shuo, a senior policy adviser for Greenpeace East Asia, said that the Chinese president's remarks delivered at the time Kerry was in Beijing were no coincidence. Shuo said Xi showed that China would decide its own path "in achieving carbon goals and will not be ordered about by others."</p>

<p>The report was based on comments made by Andrey Denisov, a former Russian envoy to China who is currently deputy chairman of the council’s foreign affairs committee.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Denisov served as Russia’s envoy to Beijing from 2013 to 2022 and helped arrange several meetings of Putin with Chinese leaders.</p>

<h2><strong>Putin may attend the BRI summit</strong></h2>

<p>China neither denied nor confirmed the report; however, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said Beijing was maintaining communication with its partner nations on relevant issues. “The third Belt and Road Summit for International Cooperation will be held later this year. China is maintaining communication with our belt and road partners on relevant issues,” said Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the ministry, on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Andrey Denisov also hinted that the biggest agenda on the table for the upcoming Putin-Xi meeting is likely to be the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).</p>

<p>Biden's statement comes at a time when US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is currently in Beijing on a four-day trip to seemingly repair the broken ties. During one of her addresses in China,&nbsp;Yellen said complete decoupling of the US and Chinese economies was "impossible".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We seek to diversify, not to decouple. A decoupling of the world's two largest economies would be destabilising for the global economy," Yellen told representatives of US businesses at a session hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.</p>
