As the world continues to fear that the next nuclear disaster could be in Eastern&nbsp;Europe, a report by the Financial Times mentioned that Chinese President Xi Jinping warned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin against the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report cited Western and Chinese officials as saying that the Chinese officials privately take credit for convincing Russia to stop veiled atomic threats.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was also mentioned that Xi warned Putin face-to-face during his state visit to Moscow in March, which was one of his first trips outside China after strict lockdown measures under his zero-Covid policy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russia has often warned of an escalation in war and also said that the West's continued support for Ukraine could lead to a nuclear war.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The concerns were further raised when Belarus hosted Russian nuclear weapons. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko insisted that their deployment did not violate international agreements.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Tuesday, Zelensky told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that Russia was planning "dangerous provocations" at the Moscow-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zelensky said in a statement: "I warned Emmanuel Macron that the occupation troops are preparing dangerous provocations at the Zaporizhzhia plant. We agreed to keep the situation under maximum control together with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zelensky said in his evening address that Russia had "installed objects similar to explosives" on the plant, according to Ukrainian intelligence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said, "Perhaps to simulate the hit on the plant. Maybe they have some other scenario. But in any case, the world sees it."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Radiation is a threat to everyone in the world," he further added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The accusation is not entirely new as the Ukrainian army has also alleged that there's a "possible preparation of a provocation on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia power plant in the near future".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russia has denied all the claims, in fact,&nbsp;Renat Karchaa, who is an advisor to Russia's Rosatom nuclear agency, accused Kyiv of planning an attack on the plant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Xi, who is general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission said authorities must strive to minimise losses in the work regarding flood prevention and disaster relief.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He directed the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the ministries of emergency management and water resources to enhance coordination, strengthen consultation and research, and improve early warnings and forecasts.</p>

<p>The rains have killed as many as 15 people while four were missing in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing. A video going viral on social media platforms showed a building in southwest Chongqing crumbling into a raging torrent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thousands have been forced to flee their homes and seek shelter elsewhere while bridges and other important infrastructure projects have been destroyed. Initial reports suggest that damage estimates may well cross $80 million.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hours later Biden's remarks, Beijing came out with a strong retort saying that&nbsp;his statements were absurd and an open provocation. The ti-for-tat comes at a time when both sides are working to lower tensions.</p>

<p>Expressing China’s strong dissatisfaction, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Biden’s comments seriously violated facts, diplomatic protocol and China’s political dignity.</p>

<p>“They’re an open political provocation,” she told a news conference.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, Biden further said that Xi was ‘very embarrassed’ when a Chinese spy balloon flying over sensitive American sites was shot down.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interestingly, Biden’s remarks came just a day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the Chinese leader in order to ease tensions.</p>

<p>"The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two box cars full of spy equipment in it was he didn't know it was there," Biden said at the fundraiser.</p>

<p>"That's a great embarrassment for dictators. When they didn't know what happened. That wasn't supposed to be going where it was. It was blown off course," Biden added.</p>

<p>A suspected Chinese spy balloon flew over U.S. airspace in February. The shooting down of the balloon and mutual visits by U.S. and Taiwanese officials impacted U.S.-China tensions negatively.</p>

<p>Biden also said that China "has some real economic difficulties" right now as data shows that&nbsp;China's economy stumbled in May with industrial output and retail sales growth missing forecasts.
