Will Smith shares his Genie beauty secrets from 'Aladdin'

Will Smith was initially worried about playing the genie in Disney's live-action version of 'Aladdin' after the celebrated performance by the late Robin Williams more than 25 years ago but says it eventually became a joy. Watch trailer here.

"What Robin Williams did with this character - he just didn't leave a lot of room to add to the genie. So I started off fearful but then when I got with the music, it just started waking up that fun, childlike, silly part of me," Smith said.

"This was the most joyful experience of my career," the actor, 50, said ahead of the film's release worldwide this week.

'Aladdin,' directed by Guy Ritchie, marks Smith's first time doing a Walt Disney Co film. The remake features many of the elements of the 1992 animated original, for which Williams won a Golden Globe for his voice work.

"I like the original movie so I'm aware I don't want to contaminate the nostalgia of the first one," said Ritchie. "What you want to do is embellish."

"My principal job was to entertain my five kids and my Disneyphile of a wife," said Ritchie, who is better known for action adventure movies like 'Sherlock Holmes' and adult crime caper 'RocknRolla.'

Naomi Scott who appeared in 'The 33' and 'Power Rangers' plays Princess Jasmine. Mena Massoud, who appeared in last year's 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' series, plays the title role in the movie.

'Aladdin' is the latest Disney remake of its animated family film classics. It follows a live action version of flying elephant tale 'Dumbo' in March, the upcoming July reboot of 'The Lion King,' and 'Mulan' due for release in 2020.

Will Smith goes from fear to joy as Aladdin's new genie

Hollywood star Will Smith was reluctant at first to play Genie in the live-action remake of Disney's "Aladdin" as it meant following in the big footsteps of late comedian Robin Williams who voiced the character in the 1992 animated film. Smith, who shot to fame in the 1990s television series "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," added a personal touch - and some hip hop and rap - to portray the energetic CGI-enhanced blue Genie who emerges from a lamp in a cave of treasures.

Will Smith brings own fun-loving Genie to new 'Aladdin'

From Aladdin’s Genie to now fighting a clone of himself, Will Smith has a few projects lined up for his fans. In the trailer released recently, Will Smith can be seen in an intense fight with a much-younger-looking self in ‘Gemini Man’ that will release in the US on October 11.

The film is a science-fiction thriller that is directed by Ang Lee. Will plays the role of Henry Brogen, an ageing assassin who is trying to avoid being killed by his younger clone. It’s hard to kill this clone as the guy knows what Will plans to do even before he does it. The younger clone is a younger version of Will that has been made possible with de-ageing VFX technology.

This is not the first film that the technology has been used in. The last we saw this in was ‘Captain Marvel’ where Samuel L Jackson, who is now 70 was made to look decades younger.

‘Gemini Man’ also stars Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Benedict Wong. The highly anticipated feature, which has a release date of Oct. 11, 2019, is just one of many films Will’s involved in this year.

For a previous episode, titled "Will Smith's Bucketlist: Bollywood Dancing", Smith shot a Bollywood dance sequence, which he said, was a dream come true for him.

In his latest India tour, the actor also roamed around in an autorickshaw across the busy streets of Mumbai and got some dance lessons from actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Karan Johar.

We have all seen and grown up watching Disney’s most famous animated film ‘Aladdin’ that has a wish-granting genie, a commoner in love with a princess, a tiger and monkey that can do stuff and an evil person who is obviously against the alliance between the couple mentioned before.

Fanning that nostalgia, Disney has now released a full-length trailer of its upcoming film ‘Aladdin’ that is the first live-action remake of the animated series/film by the same name and in this, we have Will Smith playing the blue genie. While they did release a first look teaser-trailer, this one shows all characters and establishes the reworked plot.

The new Aladdin trailer opens with Aladdin (Mena Massoud) evading a pursuit through the streets of Agrabah, the fictional Middle Eastern setting for the film before there's a meet-cute of sorts with Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott). We are then introduced to Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), the chief advisor to Agrabah's ruler — The Sultan (Navid Negabhan) — who claims that he can make Aladdin “rich, rich enough to impress a princess”. The task is simple -- bring Jafar a lamp from the Cave of Wonders.

The film will have Alan Menken, who scored 1992 original, as a composer and has co-written new songs with ‘La La Land’ duo Pasek & Paul.

Will Smith says Genie in 'Aladdin' remake will pay homage to Robin Williams

Disney has unveiled the first look of its upcoming live-action Aladdin remake. More than anyone, fans are most taken aback by Will Smith’s look in the film as he plays the genie who grants Aladdin his three wishes.

The pictures were released as part of an Entertainment Weekly article. The piece also gives us first looks at Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.

The film went through a series of casting rounds as the makers wanted the cast to fit the part ethnically. While Mena Massoud’s casting was appreciated, Naomi’s grabbed headline for a long time.

On his part, Will Smith while sharing the photo on Instagram assured fans that he was going to be blue in the film. But that didn’t stop Twitter users to write about this and complain as to why he is not blue for his part in the film.

View this post on Instagram BAM!! Will Smith's Genie look from Aladdin revealed, fans complain he is not blue

Will Smith recently posted an emotional post talking about his relationship with his oldest son Trey. Smith in a video post recalled that how the relationship that was once very difficult has over a period of time transformed into something completely different.

The 'Aladdin' star, 50, shared an emotional Instagram video of himself on Tuesday from his Abu Dhabi hotel room.

"So I`m in Abu Dhabi at the F1. I brought my son Trey. We been hanging and usually I take my kids separately on stuff just so they have their individual daddy time," Smith, wearing a white bathrobe, said.

He continued, "So we been doing this, me and him hanging out at the F1. And he just hit me with, `You know what dad? I just realized you`re not just my dad.` He paused and he said, `I`m pretty sure you`re my best friend.`"

The 'Bright' actor got emotional as he pursed his lips and said, "I was like, `Whoo. Yeah, man. Probably. Probably."

The video post was accompanyied with the caption that read, "It has not always been like this between Trey and I we struggled for years after my divorce from his Mother. He felt betrayed and abandoned."

We been hanging and usually I take my kids separately on stuff just so they have their individual daddy time," Smith, wearing a white bathrobe, said. He continued, "So we been doing this, me and him hanging out at the F1. And he just hit me with, `You know what dad? I just realized you`re not just my dad.` He paused and he said, `I`m pretty sure you`re my best friend.`" The 'Bright' actor got emotional as he pursed his lips and said, "I was like, `Whoo. Yeah, man. Probably. Probably."
One to catch up on all social media trends, almost faster than any average millennial, Hollywood star Will Smith checked off another item off his 2018 bucket list after he ran a half-marathon through the streets of Cuba’s capital on Sunday.

Will joined some 6000 runners in the Havana Marathon, also known as ‘Marabana’.

He admitted that he agreed to the race on a short notice. Just before the race began, he was quoted as saying: "We're here, we're in Havana, Cuba for my bucket list, on three weeks notice. I'm running a half marathon, I'm excited. You know, the energy is ridiculous in this place. I love Cuba.”

On the marathon, the organisers said that it was “an extended hand and an open bridge” between the US and Cuba. Americans took part in a handsome number, well represented among foreign participants in the race, with 278 in the field.

The ‘Marabana’ is run every year since 1987 and includes a half-marathon, full-marathon and a six-mile race.

Interestingly, Will also went bungee jumping in Arizona to celebrate his 50th birthday in September.

Will Smith's highly anticipated film Bright has been critically panned ever since the film released on Netflix. Most called it 'astoundingly bad' with 'underdeveloped screenplay'. But the one that perhaps stood out was senior critic David Ehrlich article who unabashedly called the film as "the single worst movie of 2017" on his Twitter page.

The film's director David Ayer, who has earlier worked with Smith in Suicide Squad, took to Twitter to respond to Ehrlich's post. Ayer was polite and took the crticism in his stride but snidely also asked Ehrilch to show him any screenplay that he had written.
