Indian-origin techie shares powerful message on voting in US elections

In a stunning comeback, Donald J Trump has again clinched the presidency in the 2024 US election. Trump's victory isn’t just a political feat; it’s a testament to the unshakeable support and influence of his family.

As Trump heads back to the White House, let’s take a closer look at the fascinating history and unique characters who make up the Trump family tree—an intriguing mix of entrepreneurs, socialites, and of course political powerhouses who have played their roles both behind the scenes and in the spotlight.

The roots of the Trump empire

Trump's family story begins with his paternal grandfather, Frederick Trump. Born in 1869 in Kallstadt, Germany, Frederick emigrated to the US, where he built a modest real estate fortune and passed down a can-do, entrepreneurial spirit that became central to the Trump ethos. His wife, Elizabeth Christ Trump, a trailblazing woman in her own right, took over the family business after Frederick’s early death during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, showing resilience that her descendants would inherit.

On the maternal side of his family, Trump’s Scottish grandparents, Malcolm and Mary MacLeod, hailed from the Outer Hebrides, a rugged region known for its stoic and hard-working people. Mary emigrated to America in 1930, instilling in her family the Scottish pride and values that her grandson, Donald, often references.

The ‘First Family’ of American real estate

Donald Trump is the fourth of five children born to Frederick C. Trump Sr. and Mary Anne MacLeod. Known as the brash yet charismatic one, Donald stood out early on, even among his equally colourful siblings. While some of his siblings pursued quieter lives, his older brother Fred Jr., the original heir apparent, tragically passed away young, prompting Donald to carry forward the family’s real estate empire.

In his earlier years, Donald was often seen alongside his brother Robert, a dedicated ally who was said to have supported Donald’s political aspirations. His sister, Maryanne, a retired federal judge, though quietly supportive, was famously recorded sharing her frank views about her brother’s leadership style.

Family at the forefront: The Trump children

From his early campaigns to his presidential administration, Trump’s children have been key players in his journey to date. Donald Jr., his oldest, has often been his father’s echo on the campaign trail, bringing a fiery charisma to rallies and a formidable presence in the media. Known as “Don Jr.,” he shares his father’s love for the spotlight, along with a deep involvement in the family business and political arena.

Ivanka Trump, often regarded as the calm and composed Trump child, was a close advisor to her father during his first administration, bringing her background in fashion and business to the forefront of White House initiatives. A White House advisor in the first Trump administration, she distanced herself from politics after 2020.

Married to Lara Trump, a former TV producer and now a Republican Committee co-chair, Eric has stayed involved in the political side, balancing it with his executive role in the family business.

A blended family in the spotlight

Trump’s current wife, Melania, might be best known for her quiet, enigmatic presence, and she’s supported her husband through every campaign, despite staying mostly off the campaign trail in recent years. Known for her elegance and poise, Melania has already stated her plans to take on initiatives in the White House focusing on children’s issues, similar to her "Be Best" campaign from Trump’s first term.

The other side of the family equation includes Marla Maples, Trump’s second wife, who has been supportive from afar. Their daughter, Tiffany Trump, married to businessman Michael Boulos, joined the family celebration, marking a rare but significant show of unity.

The next generation: Grandchildren on the rise

With 10 grandchildren, Trump’s family legacy is already making its way into the future. Don Jr.’s and Eric’s children are already making occasional media appearances, adding to the youthful energy of the family brand. Ivanka’s children, seen frequently during her father’s previous campaigns, also look poised to uphold the family name. Perhaps in another few decades, another Trump will be running for office! Maybe, maybe not. It’s too early to predict.

What’s next for the Trump family in his second inning?

As Donald Trump begins his second term, there’s no doubt that his family will remain his closest allies. Beyond their role as business partners, his children and grandchildren are already working to shape the Trump legacy, intertwining it with politics, business, and pop culture.

From German immigrants to the White House (twice!), the Trump family’s journey is a tale of ambition, unity, and the occasional family feud. For now, America watches as this storied dynasty takes its place in history one more time.
Donald Trump takes overall lead in White House race, securing over 50% of votes

West Virginia US Presidential Election 2024: With less than a week left for Election Day in the United States (November 5), American voters have more or less decided if they are going to choose Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris or her Republican rival Donald Trump to lead the country for the next four years.

Similarly in the US state of West Virginia, voters will head to the polls on Tuesday (Nov 5). West Virginia, which seceded from the state of Virginia in 1863, has four electoral votes.

Kamala Harris faces criticism for SNL appearance ahead of US Election Day

Just days before the 2024 US presidential elections, a new report has come to light adding to controversies surrounding the Republican candidate Donald Trump. The former president reportedly told his aides that he wanted to give President Joe Biden an offensive nickname following the June debate.

Trump is known for his liking to give nicknames to his political adversaries from phrases like 'Sleepy Joe' and 'Crooked Hillary' to 'Ron DeSanctimonious'. According to a recent report by the Atlantic, Trump wanted to add “Retarded Joe Biden” to his list.

“The guy’s a retard. He’s retarded. I think that’s what I’ll start calling him,” Trump reportedly said aboard his campaign plane, in late June, following the presidential debate with his opponent.

Trump’s campaign staff allegedly better him not to say the R-word in public. They warned the former president of the risk of losing moderate voters who had chosen to align with Republicans, reported the Atlantic. However, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said the claims were “materially false”, adding that the nickname “was never discussed.”

Using slurs for his adversaries

Trump had earlier said in 2020 how he could be losing to a “mental retard”, referring to Biden, when asked about the polling numbers in the last presidential elections, according to Vanity Fair.

The former president has allegedly also referred to Republican presidential candidate Kamala Harris using the same slur word during a late September dinner with Republican donors. Trump has repeatedly attacked Harris’ mental abilities at his campaign rallies, naming her “mentally impaired” and “mentally disabled” since her presidential nomination.

As election day nears, Trump’s controversial rhetoric has only continued with him having violent fantasies about Liz Cheney, hosting a “hate rally” at Madison Square Garden, and a microphone fiasco during a Milwaukee rally.

The United States (US) Supreme Court on Friday (Nov 1) rejected an emergency bid from Republicans that could have led to thousands of provisional ballots not being counted in Pennsylvania as the presidential campaigns vie in the final days before the election in the state on November 5.

The Associated Press report said that the top court's ruling on Friday was a win for voting-rights advocates, who had sought to force counties — primarily Republican-controlled counties — to let voters cast a provisional ballot on Election Day (November 5) if their mail-in ballot was to be rejected for a garden-variety error.
