In the midst of Donald Trump's ongoing pursuit of a second term as president of the United States, his son Barron Trump, 18, was greeted with loud cheering and applause as he arrived at his father's event in Florida. During a Tuesday (Jul 9) night campaign rally near Miami, the lone child of the former president and his wife Melania Trump, had his moment in the spotlight when his father gave him an introduction. "A very young man who's now going to college," said the former US president while introducing his son. "Got into every college he wanted to and he made his choice. And he's a very good guy, I'll tell you…He's a very special guy, Barron Trump. This is the first time he's ever done this." 🚨MY FRIEND BARRON TRUMP JUST GOT A STANDING OVATION FROM 45,000 PEOPLE IN DORAL, FLORIDA! The recent high school graduate complied, giving a quick wave to the crowd and pumping his fist, while his father remarked that he is "pretty popular" and "might be more popular" than his older brothers, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. "Barron, it's good to have you," Donald Trump said. "Welcome to the scene, Barron. I don't know. He had such a nice easy life, now it's a little bit changed." Footage of Barron Trump's moment in the spotlight was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Bo Loudon, an emerging political influencer. Bo's parents are conservative commentator Gina Loudon and former Missouri state senator John William Loudon. Gina Loudon also served on the media advisory board for the 2020 Trump campaign. Barron Trump has maintained a relatively low profile, mostly appearing quietly alongside his family at campaign events. However, this changed in May when it was announced that the recent high school graduate would serve as a Florida delegate at the upcoming Republican National Convention, an idea that his mother quickly shot down. In a rare public appearance earlier this month, Barron was seen sitting on a golf cart next to his father as the former president criticised his successor and rival in the upcoming election Joe Biden calling him an "old broken down pile of crap". A US judicial panel stated on Monday (July 9) that a federal judge in Alaska who unexpectedly quit last week had an improper sexual relationship with a law clerk and established a hostile work environment for his staff.

A US judicial panel stated on Monday (July 9) that a federal judge in Alaska who unexpectedly quit last week had an improper sexual relationship with a law clerk and established a hostile work environment for his staff. US District Judge Joshua Kindred, a Trump White House appointment, resigned from his life-tenured position on Wednesday after taking the bench in 2020, drawing public reprimand from the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council. In an order dated May 23, and made public on Monday, the council said that it had asked for him to step down. It also mentioned that the case was sent to the highest federal judiciary authority for certification, which could lead Congress to consider the unusual impeachment of a federal judge. The top US circuit judge, Mary Murguia, stated in a statement that "the judiciary is entrusted to self-govern and, in doing so, must hold its federal judges to the highest standards of integrity and impartiality." Anil Male, Chandan Dasireddy, Dwaraka Gunda, and Santhosh Katkoori were all taken into custody following a raid on Katkoori's residence by the Princeton Police Department in north Texas in March, earlier this year. After a months-long probe, the police have recently made details about the case public. According to Fox 4 News, a pest control firm that was called to Katkoori's home in March discovered luggage and three to five young women in each room. House Democrats had a crucial closed-door meeting on Tuesday at their national party headquarters in Washington, D.C., as members debated whether to continue supporting President Joe Biden's reelection campaign or not.

It is the first time all the members gathered since Biden's catastrophic debate with former President Donald Trump last month caused a full-blown campaign crisis. During the meeting, lawmakers were allowed to use their phones.

Democrats became alarmed by the incumbent's weak, raspy performance in the debate, leading some influential fundraisers, commentators, and supporters to publicly call on Biden, 81, to drop his pursuit for an additional four years in office.

However, extensive residential flooding was avoided throughout the city. In contrast to Hurricane Harvey, which decimated the city in 2017, Beryl passed past Houston very swiftly, arriving in the early morning and leaving by the afternoon. Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday (Jul 8); bringing rainfall flooding, storm surge and damaging winds to the region. More than 1.5 million people were left without power in the state as the hurricane disrupted normal lives.

The incumbent United States President Joe Biden announced on Friday (July 5) that he will stay in the race for the White House months ahead of the 2024 election.

The incumbent United States President Joe Biden announced on Friday (July 5) that he will stay in the race for the White House months ahead of the 2024 election. Additionally, he declared that he would defeat his rival and predecessor, Donald Trump, reported news agency ANI, citing NBC News. "You probably heard that I had a little debate last week. Can't say it is my best performance, but ever since then, there's been a lot of speculation: 'What's Joe going to do? Is he going to stay in the race? Is he going to drop out, what's he going to do?' Well, here's my answer. I am running and gonna win again," Biden said while addressing his supporters in Madison, as quoted by ANI. The US president also stated that people are attempting to get him out of the race. According to NBC, he stated, "Let me say it as clearly as I can: I'm staying in the race! I'll beat Donald Trump." However, Biden fumbled when he declared that he would defeat Trump "again in 2020." Subsequently, he then seemed to clarify himself, saying, "We're going to do it again in 2024." Declaring that he would not allow a ninety-minute debate to undo the gains he had made over the previous three and a half years, Biden remarked, "I learned long ago, when you get knocked down, you get back up." Also read: Biden's first interview after disastrous debate fails to ease Democrats' panic amid calls for withdrawal According to Biden's friends in the Democratic Party, he should run a more aggressive campaign to demonstrate his ability to serve a second term. Currently, Trump is 78 years old and Biden is 81. However, 74 per cent of respondents to a poll by Siena and the New York Times said that Biden was too old for the position. Biden’s latest gaffe: US president promises to beat Donald Trump ‘again in 2020’ during 2024 campaign speech

In his first interview since last week's disastrous debate performance and amid demands from Democrats for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, United States President Joe Biden said, "If the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that (stand down from the race), I might do that."

But unfortunately, Biden's remarks were not enough to calm Democrats' worries. After the presidential debate and now Biden's most recent interview, Democrats are worried about losing the presidency, Senate majority and House seats if Biden, 81, remains their presidential nominee.

In an interview with CNN on Friday (Jul 5) night, Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas, the first Democrat in the House to urge the incumbent president to withdraw from the presidential race, brought up Biden's "Lord Almighty" remark.

"We may not be the Lord Almighty calling from on high. But from Maine to Washington...from Chicago...from Arizona. People from all over the country saying, that the risk of a Trump presidency destroying our democracy...to take over our government and never giving it back again, is so great that we've got to have our strongest candidate. Every day he delays in making that decision, it makes it more difficult," Doggett said.

Throughout Friday's eagerly awaited interview, Biden maintained his position as the most qualified candidate to "defeat" his Republican rival Donald Trump in November. Since last week's debate, the 81-year-old president has consistently disputed polling data that put the former president ahead.

In response to a question about whether the polls suggest that 2024 would be "much tougher to win," Biden said, "Not when you're running against a pathological liar."

One of Biden's most ardent supporters, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, stated on CNN on Friday night that "Democrats need to get a spine or grow a set—one or the other. Joe Biden is our guy."

In his first interview since last week's disastrous debate performance and amid demands from Democrats for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, United States President Joe Biden said, "If the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that (stand down from the race), I might do that.

In his first interview since last week's disastrous debate performance and amid demands from Democrats for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, United States President Joe Biden said, "If the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that (stand down from the race), I might do that." But unfortunately, Biden's remarks were not enough to calm Democrats' worries. In response to a question about whether the polls suggest that 2024 would be "much tougher to win," Biden said, "Not when you're running against a pathological liar." One of Biden's most ardent supporters, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, stated on CNN on Friday night that "Democrats need to get a spine or grow a set—one or the other. Joe Biden is our guy." In response to Fetterman's remarks, Representative Mike Quigley of Illinois, the fourth Democrat in the House to urge Biden to withdraw, said, "I think what makes a spine is to step aside and recognize the president of the United States doesn't have the vigour necessary to overcome the deficit here, and it's going to affect us all." US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump faced each other in the presidential debate on Thursday (June 27). The debate, which was supposed to be critical for the upcoming November elections, was eye-opening but for different reasons. On Tuesday (July 2), at a fundraiser in McLean, Virginia, President Joe Biden provided a justification for his subpar debate performance. The president said that it "wasn't very smart" of him to travel in the weeks before his first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump while speaking to supporters with Representative Don Beyer of Virginia. Biden, according to the New York Post, stated, "I decided to travel around the world a couple of times... shortly before the debate... I didn't listen to my staff... and then I almost fell asleep on stage." Biden also apologised for his debate performance but told supporters it was "critical" to defeat Trump in November. Even though Democrats were alarmed by Biden's behaviour during Thursday's debate, polls continue to show that both candidates are tied. The US president said, "It's not an excuse but an explanation". Democrats urge Biden to withdraw following debate Since the debate on Thursday, several Democrats have urged Biden to withdraw from the race. Congressman Lloyd Doggett of Texas joined a growing number of party members who have questioned Joe Biden's efforts to win re-election by becoming the first sitting Democrat to call for the president to resign on Tuesday. Biden's pre-debate travel history In the weeks preceding the debate, Biden did make several trips. The president went to Apulia, Italy, on June 13 to attend the G7 summit. Two days later, he along with former President Barack Obama went to Los Angeles for a star-studded fundraiser. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was received by Biden at the White House on June 17 to talk about military expenditures and preparations for the alliance's 75th NATO Summit. According to Reuters, Biden headed to Camp David on June 21 to begin debate prep six days before he took the stage. (With inputs from agencies)

Following Donald Trump's conviction on criminal charges related to bribing a porn star for her silence, a New York court partly lifted a gag order on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday (June 25).

Following Donald Trump's conviction on criminal charges related to bribing a porn star for her silence, a New York court partly lifted a gag order on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday (June 25). Though Trump's remarks regarding specific prosecutors and other case participants are still restricted, the amended order permits him to talk publicly about the prosecution's witnesses. The gag order, according to Trump's attorneys, was suppressing his campaign speech and making it more difficult for him to refute Democratic President Joe Biden's criticisms when they square off on June 27. Alvin Bragg's office of prosecutors in Manhattan stated that there was no longer a need to impose restrictions on Trump's comments about trial witnesses. They did, however, ask Justice Juan Merchan to preserve limits on his statements regarding jurors, court staff, and individual prosecutors, citing safety concerns. Prosecutors argued that such limits were still necessary, citing Trump supporters' attempts to identify members of the secret jury and threats of violence against them. Also read: UK: PPE worth £1.4 billion purchased during pandemic destroyed or unused - Reports "There thus remains a critical need to protect the jurors in this case from attacks by the defendant and those he inspires to action," they stated in a court filing on June 20. A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on May 30 of concealing his former attorney Michael Cohen's $130,000 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Daniels was threatening to go public with her account of a sexual encounter with Trump before the 2016 election. This was the first criminal trial of a US president. Sentencing is scheduled for July 11, four days prior to his party's official nomination meeting for the presidential elections. During the seven-week trial, Trump disobeyed the gag order 10 times. The court penalised him $10,000 for this infraction and threatened to put him in jail on May 6. (With inputs from agencies)

A Washington state couple's argument was rejected by the Supreme Court on Thursday, preserving a Trump-era tax on foreign assets. The case could have compromised current tax laws and blown up Democratic talk of a wealth tax.

A Washington state couple's argument was rejected by the Supreme Court on Thursday, preserving a Trump-era tax on foreign assets. The case could have compromised current tax laws and blown up Democratic talk of a wealth tax. A 7-2 majority voted to uphold the tax. Justice Clarence Thomas issued a dissent, while Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the majority opinion. Kavanaugh reiterated that the opinion was "narrow" and unrelated to the controversial wealth tax matter. The question of whether the government could tax investment revenues that had not yet been received was at stake in the much-watched lawsuit. The couple from Washington state, Charles and Kathleen Moore, contested a $15,000 tax they were issued due to their investment in an Indian company. According to the Moores, the taxed profits were never given to them, instead, they were reinvested. The tax in question was passed by Congress in 2017 by former President Donald Trump. Over ten years, the provision was predicted to raise $340 billion. A federal wealth tax is something that President Joe Biden and several congressional Democrats have been eyeing for many years, and some conservative organisations warned that the government's win could pave the way for it. Also read: Mark Rutte to succeed Stoltenberg as NATO secretary-general amid escalating global tensions The bottom line, according to Kavanaugh, is that "Moores’ argument, taken to its logical conclusion, could render vast swaths of the Internal Revenue Code unconstitutional. "And those tax provisions, if suddenly eliminated, would deprive the U. S. Government and the American people of trillions in lost tax revenue," he added. Biden and other Democrats have advocated higher taxes on the rich to fund their spending proposals, many of which are intended to benefit lower- and middle-class Americans. Biden has advocated for a "Billionaire Minimum Income Tax," which would impose a 25% tax rate on people worth more than $100 million. This tax would be applied to the "full income," or unrealised profits, of the rich. One of the attorneys defending the Moores co-wrote two positive opinion pieces praising the justice in the Wall Street Journal last year, which prompted Democrats on Capitol Hill to demand that Justice Samuel Alito resign. Alito objected to the recusal request. (With inputs from agencies)

Democratic Governor of Maryland Wes Moore pardons over 175,000 marijuana convictions on Monday (June 17) in arguably the most comprehensive reversal of drug policy in the United States.

Democratic Governor of Maryland Wes Moore pardons over 175,000 marijuana convictions on Monday (June 17) in arguably the most comprehensive reversal of drug policy in the United States. Moore's proposal apply to around 100,000 individuals found guilty of misdemeanor marijuana possession offenses. Across the nation, marijuana is becoming more and more legal to use for both medical and recreational purposes. "I’m ecstatic that we have a real opportunity with what I’m signing to write a lot of historical wrongs," Moore stated. "If you want to be able to create inclusive economic growth, it means you have to start removing these barriers that continue to disproportionately sit on communities of colour." The wave of pardons, according to Moore's administration, is scheduled to fall on Wednesday's Juneteenth holiday. Although its neighbours, Virginia and Washington, DC, still retain certain limitations, Maryland has completely legalised the cannabis trade inside its boundaries since 2023. Neither of Washington, DC and Virginia jurisdictions have granted pardons for marijuana-related offenses. Also read: Greek coastguard threw migrants into sea after tying their hands: Report Democratic attorney general of Maryland Anthony Brown applauded Moore's pardon. "While the pardons will extend to anyone and everyone with a misdemeanor conviction for the possession of marijuana or paraphernalia, this unequivocally, without any doubt or reservation, disproportionately impacts — in a good way — Black and Brown Marylanders," Brown said. "We are arrested and convicted at higher rates for possession and use of marijuana when the rate at which we used it was no different than any other category of people," he continued. According to the Washington Post, Maryland officials stated that the pardons, which would also apply to the deceased, would not result in the release of anybody from jail because no one is currently incarcerated. Given that it is lawful for anyone in the state to possess minor amounts of cannabis, misdemeanor cannabis crimes result in short punishments and no longer carry criminal prosecutions.
