A Southwest Airlines passenger's story has sent chills down people's spine. The passenger from the United States posted a video from a flight that descended alarmingly close to the ocean before it was about to land.

Nancy Allen was on&nbsp;a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft operated by&nbsp;Southwest,&nbsp;flying from Columbus, Ohio, to Tampa, Florida, earlier this month. While the plane was&nbsp;four miles from the runway in Tampa, Flight 425 dropped to 175 feet above the ocean.

An air traffic controller had to notify the crew about their extremely low altitude, leading to the plane being diverted to Fort Lauderdale, about 200 miles away.

As the passengers started to panic, Allen sent her husband text messages. "I was concerned we were flying in a Tampa storm, so I opened my window," she told WFLA.

The video shot on her phone shows the Boeing plane rising back up after attempting to land in Tampa, then being redirected to Fort Lauderdale.

Allen explained that she realised something was wrong at that moment, saying, "I was feeling a little panic. At that moment I panicked, and I started texting my husband this is sketchy and I was texting him, abort, abort."

Even though the flight landed safely and no one was unharmed, Allen said that the reason behind the disturbance is still unknown.

Southwest is following its robust Safety Management System and is in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration to understand and address any irregularities with the aircraft’s final approach," a statement from Southwest Airlines said.

The American political&nbsp;landscape is changing faster than ever with&nbsp;Donald&nbsp;Trump's recent assassination bid, United States&nbsp;President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential&nbsp;race and endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris, months ahead of the election.&nbsp;

In the latest development, Trump supporters also known as the&nbsp;MAGA (Make America Great Again) fanbase&nbsp;are making&nbsp;#CancelNetflix trend&nbsp;on X after Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings donated $7 million toward a super PAC backing Harris'&nbsp;presidential campaign.

According to media reports, this was the largest single donation ever made to a political campaign by Hastings. “After the depressing debate, we are in the game again,” Hastings told Variety.

Earlier this week, Hastings expressed his support for Harris on X, stating, "Congrats to Kamala Harris -- now it is time to win." According to the New York Times, Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have contributed over $20 million to the Democratic Party in recent years.

Hastings' donation sparked outrage on social media and&nbsp;led&nbsp;to calls for a boycott of Netflix. Netanyahu arrived in a black SUV adorned with Israeli and American flags. The two leaders are expected to discuss the current negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Notably, it is also Biden's first meeting with a foreign leader since he&nbsp;dropped&nbsp;out of the presidential race&nbsp;and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.

The meeting is crucial due to the mounting&nbsp;pressure on the Israeli PM&nbsp;to end&nbsp;the war in Gaza which is in currently its ninth month.

“Well, welcome back, Mr. Prime Minister,” Biden told Netanyahu

“We’ve got a lot to talk about. I think we should get to it,” he added.

“Mr. President, we’ve known each other for 40 years and you’ve known every Israeli prime minister for 50 years, from Golda Meir,” Netanyahu told Biden ahead of the meeting in front of reporters.&nbsp;

“So from a proud Jewish Zionist to a proud Irish American Zionist, I want to thank you for 50 years of public service and 50 years of support for the state of Israel. And I look forward to discussing with you today and working with you in the months ahead on the great issues before us,” the Israeli PM told the US president.&nbsp;

A woman in the US has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for embezzling over $100 million from a grant programme designed to aid military children and families, officials announced.

Janet Yamanaka Mello, 57, was found guilty of five counts of mail fraud and five counts of filing false tax returns for a complex scheme she executed over six years while working for the United States Army, stated the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas.

Over the six years her business was active, authorities reported that Mello committed fraud in 49 separate cases, requesting $117 million in grants and obtaining nearly $109 million. To conceal the fraud, she also misreported her income for the tax years 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Esparza expressed that his office "will continue to work tirelessly to prosecute those who illegally seek personal gain at the expense of their fellow citizens."

Defence attorney Albert Flores told the Associated Press that Mello was deeply remorseful. "She realizes she committed a crime, she did wrong and is very ashamed," Flores said.&nbsp;

US: Federal prison for ex-Army worker who embezzled $109mn from military child grant programme

Former US president Donald Trump has called for Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray to resign from his post for lying about President Joe Biden's cognitive health.

Trump, the Republican presidential nominee wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, "I watched the Congressional Hearing today as Christopher Wray was asked the question whether or not he noticed any Cognitive Degeneration in his many conversations with Crooked Joe Biden and, despite the fact that Special Counsel Robert Hur said, effectively, that Joe Biden is INCOMPETENT, with LITTLE MEMORY, etc., Wray said that 'it is not something I observed during my interactions with him, which were uneventful and unremarkable,' essentially stating that he found nothing wrong, mentally or physically, with 'Joe,'."

This comes after FBI Director Wray testified on Trump's assassination bid before the House Judiciary Committee. During the proceeding, he was asked when he began to notice "cognitive decline" in Biden by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. To which Wray answered by saying that he didn't meet the President often "but what you're describing is not something that I've observed during my interactions."

"If that is the case, Director Wray should resign immediately from the FBI, and stop 'sweet talking' Congress every time he goes up, which he loves to do, because anybody can see that Joe Biden is cognitively and physically challenged, and if you can’t see that, you sure as hell can’t be running the FBI - Unless, that is, you want to illegally lead the Raid on Mar-a-Lago. Wray has to resign, and NOW, for LYING TO CONGRESS!" Trump added.

On Trump assassination bid, Wray said that an FBI investigation is underway. According to the FBI director, the federal agency has been analysing Crooks' movements and social media activity but it could not find the motive behind the attack on Trumo.

“We do not know the motive. That is obviously one of the central questions in our investigation, and it's been very frustrating to us that a lot of the usual kind of low-hanging-fruit places that we would find that have not yielded significant clues about his motive,” Wray said.

Seattle police officer Daniel Auderer has been fired from the department, a year after he was seen making callous remarks following the death of an Indian student.

Auderer faced criticism after body camera footage captured him making insensitive comments about the death of Jaahnavi Kandula, a 23-year-old graduate student from India, who was fatally struck by another officer's vehicle in a crosswalk.&nbsp;

In the&nbsp;bodycam footage, Auderer was recorded joking and laughing about Kandula's death, suggesting that her life had "limited value" and that the city should "just write a check" as compensation.

US President Joe Biden is considering proposals to reform the Supreme Court, which may include implementing term limits and establishing a new ethics code for the predominantly conservative bench, according to media reports.

With a 6-3 conservative majority, the Supreme Court has delivered several significant setbacks to Democratic priorities in recent years, including the repeal of the nationwide right to abortion. President Biden has increasingly expressed his disagreement with these decisions.

This year the court significantly rolled back the power of federal agencies, while also partially ruling in early July in favour of ex-president Donald Trump's immunity claims.

Biden, who is seeking re-election in November against Donald Trump, has previously opposed calls to overhaul or modify&nbsp;the court of nine lifetime-appointed justices, which includes three nominated by his Republican predecessor.

But this may change soon, according to several US media reports, which cite unnamed sources familiar with the planning.

However, it was unclear whether Biden would come out in support of the measures in near future or in his second term if he wins the presidential election.

Progressive groups are aiming to use the Supreme Court to motivate voters to support Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. They are investing millions of dollars in campaigns designed to educate voters about the impact the next president will have on the high court.

Ex-US president Donald Trump on Monday (Jul 15) finally revealed the name of his running mate and the apparent heir of his America First movement—JD Vance. He is a politician with little political experience, with just two years in Congress under his belt. In a Trump 2.0 administration, his views on the world will have a great impact on the USA's foreign policy, especially as Trump will remain focused on 'fixing' a lot of 'broken' things at home. With elections approaching in November, people are now wondering what the Trump-Vance duo will look like in terms of foreign policy vis-à-vis Ukraine as the war drags on in its third year.

<h2>Vance vice presidency on Ukraine</h2>

Vance is one of the influential 'Asia First' Republican politicians. These politicians advocate an increased emphasis on US relations with Asian nations, the China threat and limited attention on Europe. On Ukraine, these politicians say the US should stop providing security blanket to other nations and reinforce defence at the chaotic southern border with Mexico. Vance has also urged USA's European allies to step up their support for Kyiv in the past.

<h2>'I don't care'</h2>

For instance, when the war first started in February 2022, Vance declared that he didn't really care what happened to Ukraine.

"I gotta be honest with you, I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or another," he said. He has also advocated a foreign policy that "abandons" Europe.

Earlier this year, Vance spearheaded a Republican effort to kill off a Ukraine aid bill. The effort failed but Vance later said, "We were able to make it pretty clear to Europe and the rest of the world that America can’t write blank checks indefinitely.”

In an interview with Politico, Vance once also opposed sending military aid to Ukraine, saying, "How long is this expected to go on? How much is it expected to cost? And importantly, how are we actually supposed to produce the weapons necessary to support the Ukrainians?”

Trump had been considered the presumptive nominee for several months, but it was the votes from RNC delegates in Milwaukee that confirmed his nomination on Monday afternoon.

Trump assassination bid: Shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks featured in BlackRock commercial

According to a report issued by city officials, thousands of food delivery workers have lost their employment even though the cost of having a meal delivered has skyrocketed. However, the increase in the minimum wage in New York City has increased income for those workers who have managed to stay in their jobs.

The raises are mostly being attributed to a December law that raised the minimum wage to over $20 per hour, which delivery services like Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats attempted to overturn with a lawsuit last year, according to a report by the city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection.

According to the report, those who were still working made $28.3 million each week, or 22% more, in the first quarter than they did in the previous one and 42% more than they did a year earlier. That's even though, according to the report, they worked 22% fewer hours per week.

According to the report, the average hourly salary, including tips, increased significantly from $11.72 last year to $19.26.

However, the study found that the number of active worker accounts on delivery apps fell to 99,000, a drop of 8% from the previous quarter and 9% from a year ago.

Since the controversial law was passed, thousands of people have lost their jobs. City officials believe that 65,000 delivery workers, some of whom are working through multiple apps, are affected.

Food delivery expenses have risen by 10%, with a 12% increase in restaurant menu pricing and a 58% increase in app fees to fund rising salaries.

As a result, customers tip less. While delivery prices have increased by an average of $2.30 per transaction, tips have decreased by $2.64, according to a study issued on Thursday.

According to the report, the average cost of food delivery ended up rising by 76 cents to $39.11 per order.

Despite increasing costs, deliveries rose 8% to 2.8 million in the first quarter compared to last year, while customers paid 10% more, totalling $103 million, according to the report.

The delivery apps argue that DCPW's optimistic portrayal is, at best, deceptive.

According to UberEats, there is a queue for delivery jobs, with around 27,000 New Yorkers looking for work, for the first time.

“The couriers who are still able to work need to work much harder, doing 80% more deliveries per hour than they did before the rule took effect,” UberEats said in a statement.

UberEats also claims there is a waitlist now for the first time with some 27,000 New Yorkers seeking delivery work.

Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders mocks Biden's NATO summit gaffes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday downplayed a blunder made by US President Joe Biden, who accidentally referred to him as Russian President Vladimir Putin during the NATO summit held in Washington.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday downplayed a blunder made by US President Joe Biden, who accidentally referred to him as Russian President Vladimir Putin during the NATO summit held in Washington. Zelensky commented, "We can overlook some errors." During his visit to Ireland, Zelensky spoke to reporters at Shannon Airport, saying, "It's a mistake. I think the United States gave a lot of support for Ukrainians. We can forget some mistakes, I think so." Later that day, Zelensky had his first bilateral meeting on Irish soil with Irish leader Simon Harris at the airport. Zelensky was on in way back from Washington, where the 75th NATO summit happened. "First of all, thank you so much for your support, thanks to Ireland for hosting a lot of Ukrainian refugees, you were with us from the very beginning of the Russian invasion," Zelensky said in a message to Ireland. It is expected that Simon Harris will also express Ireland's support for Ukraine's bid towards European Union membership. Biden calls Zelensky 'Putin' During the final day of the NATO summit, 81-year-old Biden made the gaffe. When announcing a NATO-Ukraine compact he mistakenly introduced Zelensky as his rival, Russian President Vladimir Putin. "And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin," Biden said. Also read: Abraham Lincoln was gay? Though Zelensky immediately tried to diffuse the situation by saying that he was ''better" than Putin, the concerns about Biden's age and his ability to run in the Presidential race intensified. Media reports citing sources said several significant Democratic donors have informed Future Forward, the biggest super PAC of supporters of the United States President Joe Biden that pledges totalling about $90 million are now on hold if the incumbent remains the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.&nbsp;

According to a New York Times report, some eight-figure pledges are among the frozen funds. This comes after Biden's poor debate performance against his rival and predecessor Donald Trump.

A group donor shared that Future Forward had approached them and their friends several times since the debate, asking for money, but they had been “holding off.”

The two people briefed on the frozen pledges declined to say which individual donors were pulling back promised checks, which were estimated to total around or above $90 million.&nbsp;

A second source close to the group told the NYT that the super PAC has been delaying big strategic choices until it has a clear idea of who would be at the top of the ticket.

The financial freeze coincides with the conversation among some of Biden's advisors about how to convince the president to withdraw from the race.

According to reports, Biden's campaign has been quietly testing Vice President Kamala Harris' chances against Trump. The number of congressional Democrats urging the incumbent president to stand down is rising.&nbsp;

The possible shortage of super PAC funds also coincides with the campaign preparing for a challenging July fundraising period, as key donors question Biden's chances of winning in November.

Future Forward, designated by Biden's campaign as its primary super PAC for the 2024 race, has already reserved $250 million in TV and digital ads starting after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) next month.

Following the debate, a leaked poll from an organisation closely associated with Future Forward revealed that the super PAC had evaluated the likability of potential Biden alternatives, including Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

President Biden has had a worse overall favorability rating than all the others, according to the poll.

The United States on Thursday (Jul 11) announced sanctions on three Israelis and five entities it accused of disturbing peace in the occupied West Bank. Of those sanctioned, the most notable is the Lehava organisation led by already-sanctioned Bentzi Gopstein.

"Lehava's members have engaged in repeated acts of violence against Palestinians, often targeting sensitive or volatile areas. Additionally, we are imposing sanctions on four outposts that are owned or controlled by U.S.-designated individuals who have weaponized them as bases for violent actions to displace Palestinians. Outposts like these have been used to disrupt grazing lands, limit access to wells, and launch violent attacks against neighboring Palestinians," said US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Additionally, the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers in a statement condemned Israel for legalising five outposts in the West Bank.

According to the New York Post, Meloni and other world leaders were waiting for President Biden and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to commence the third day of the summit which was scheduled to start at 10:00 am (local time).

In the video, the Italian PM&nbsp;rolls her eyes dramatically and waves her wrist in a “look at the time!” gesture. Beside her, Finnish President Alexander Stubb checks his phone for the time.

Alexi Saenz entered a plea in Central Islip federal court, where he faces a sentence of 40 to 70 years in prison. Prosecutors earlier dropped their intention to seek the death sentence in his case.

The 29-year-old is scheduled for sentencing on January 31 of next year. He was initially indicted in 2017 in the Eastern District of New York.

In 2020, eight more MS-13 members from two gang cliques were charged with six killings and other crimes on Long Island.

During Wednesday's hearing, Saenz spoke briefly through a Spanish interpreter as the judge posed a series of yes or no questions regarding the plea deal and the crimes he was confessing to.

Following George Clooney's op-ed in which he urged United States President Joe&nbsp;Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, presumptive Republican&nbsp;nominee Donald Trump&nbsp;on Wednesday (July 10) said that&nbsp;the American actor and filmmaker should&nbsp;stay out of politics.&nbsp;

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, "So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act."&nbsp;

“He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?” he wrote.

"Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!" the former US president added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In an&nbsp;op-ed, published in the New York Times, the Hollywood actor who is also a longtime Democrat wrote, "We are not going to win in November with this president."&nbsp;

“I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced,” he added.

“But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can,” Clooney continued.&nbsp;

“It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe 'big F-ing deal'&nbsp;Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” said the American actor.

Clooney also said that even though Biden stepping aside would be messy, it would be worth it.&nbsp;

“Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024,” Clooney wrote.

“He uses the Democrat ‘talking point’ that Biden, the WORST President in the history of the United States, has ‘saved our Democracy,’” the presumptive Republican presidential candidate said.&nbsp;

“No, Crooked Joe was the one who WEAPONIZED Law Enforcement against his political Opponent, who created the most devastating INFLATION in the history of our Country, who Embarrassed our Nation in Afghanistan, and whose crazy Open Border Policy has allowed millions of people to illegally pour into our Country, many from prisons and mental institutions,” Trump wrote.

“Crooked Joe Biden didn’t save our Democracy, he brought our Democracy to its knees,” he added.

In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced,” he added. “But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can,” Clooney continued. “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe 'big F-ing deal' Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” said the American actor. Clooney also said that even though Biden stepping aside would be messy, it would be worth it. “Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024,” Clooney wrote. A one-year-old from the US state of&nbsp;Louisiana was found alive after his four-year-old brother was found dead and their mother was arrested.

A passerby on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 10 in Vinton, Louisiana, called the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies on Tuesday (July 9) at 9:00 am&nbsp;(local time) amid the search for the one-year-old, according to a press release shared by the sheriff's office&nbsp;on Facebook.

According to the press release, police had been searching for the one-year-old since his four-year-old brother's body was discovered in the water near the Vinton Welcome Center on Monday (July 8).

The child and his mother, Aaliyah N Jack, 25, of Lake Charles, were last seen on Saturday (July 6).

Jack was located in Mississippi, without the one-year-old, by the Meridian Police Department and taken into custody, according to police. Judge Tony Fazzio imposed a $300,000 bond, charging her with failure to report a missing child.

"We looked at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive... unbelievable," Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary "Stitch" Guillory said at a news conference on July 9, according to a video released by the Associated Press.

“This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway. Thank God that trucker saw him,” an emotional Guillory continued.

According to Guillory, the one-year-old had many insect bites but appeared to be in good health overall. The press release said that the infant had been brought to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition.

“This is a tragic incident our detectives are currently investigating. Fortunately, we were able to locate the 1-year-old, who was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He is now safe and in the care of authorities. We understand the community’s concern and are committed to ensuring justice for the children involved," Guillory said.

"CPSO detectives are actively working to gather all the information and details surrounding this case and the death of the 4-year-old. We will dedicate all necessary resources to ensure a thorough investigation. Our hearts go out to the family members of these two children,” he added.

"Detectives are continuing the investigation, and more charges are possible. The coroner will determine the cause of death," the release read.
