Trump secures Republican nomination after assassination attempt, picks JD Vance as running mate

Donald Trump has officially been named the Republican presidential nominee after securing enough delegate votes at the Republican National Convention, following an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump had been considered the presumptive nominee for several months, but it was the votes from RNC delegates in Milwaukee that confirmed his nomination on Monday afternoon.
Trump has chosen 39-year-old Ohio Senator JDVance as his vice presidential candidate. This decision honours a former staunch critic who has transformed into one of his most reliable supporters in Congress.
"As Vice President, JDwill continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Despite several legal issues and two impeachments during his first term, President Trump is growing more certain of making a comeback to the White House, while President Joe Biden is struggling with declining performance in polls and concerns about his health.
