<p>A $1bn (&pound;740m) new US embassy, commissioned by predecessor Barrack Obama, was described as a &ldquo;bad deal&rdquo; by Trump.</p>

<p>However, the embassy website showed that the decision to move the location was taken months before Barack Obama took office in January 2009.</p>

<p>The United States had announced plans to move from its current embassy building in Mayfair in 2008 and said that the new building will open on January 16, all due to security reasons.&nbsp;</p>

Donald Trump cancels February visit to UK over 'bad' embassy deal

<p>A major hurdle in the dream of a 17-year-old girl to pursue her higher education in the USA was cleared after Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj intervened to facilitate in getting her visa confirmed from the US Embassy.</p>

<p>The visa was confirmed yesterday after the intervention of the union minister, a Rajasthan government release said today.</p>

<p>Bhanupriya Haritwal of Jalalpur village, who was one of the three girls given a Rs 1 crore scholarship by the Rajasthan government to study abroad for securing a rank in the Class 10 state board exams in 2015, will now pursue computer science from the California State University in the USA, it said.</p>

<p>She had secured the second rank in the examination following which she got the scholarship for the four-year course, the release said.</p>

<p>Haritwal, whose father Sohan Lal is a teacher at a private college in Sikar district, had applied for the visa, but the application was rejected twice by the embassy, it said.</p>

<p>Islamic State claimed responsibility on Wednesday for an attack on an armoured convoy used by NATO that killed eight people in the Afghan capital Kabul.</p>

<p>It said in a statement on its Amaq news agency that a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-rigged car as the convoy passed an area near the U.S. embassy, killing eight American soldiers.</p>

<p>Public health officials in Kabul said the eight dead were civilians and that at least 28 people were wounded in the blast that took place during the morning rush hour in a busy part of the city. Three U.S. service members were among the wounded.</p>

<p>There was no immediate word on whether any foreign troops had been hurt in the attack, which hit a group of armoured personnel carriers designed to withstand large blasts.</p>
